  1. Wines is more likely to make his way to Carlton. Cripps, Crouch, Wines and Murphy is a pretty decent core. HH back-pedalling? Never.
  2. Would be all over Birchall, but can't see the Hawks giving him up unless they plan on changing their defensive game style quite a bit. He is vital to their defensive make up. I'd usually agree with the remaining sentiment in your post, Red, but our major deficiency season 2016 showed me was our experience. And that's talented experience. Lewis is that. He may be slowing down, but imagine Oliver, Petracca, Brayshaw and Tyson learning off him for a season. IMO, JKH doesn't have enough tools to make it at AFL level, but each to their own, mate.
  3. Who's said we don't know if Enright can coach or not? Posters have only pointed out the fallacy of your argument RE: great players make great coaches. For the record, I'd welcome Enright with open arms as an assistant coach.
  4. The point I'm trying to make should be pretty clear, Steve. You don't have to be a great player to be a great coach or communicator. We've seen this proved for us on multiple occasions. The fact that Chaplin, Enright or Egan aren't in the role of Senior Coach is irrelevant. The point you made was that Chaplin didn't appeal to you as a coach (you didn't specify senior coach or otherwise) because he wasn't a great player.
  5. Would you prefer Clarkson or Beveridge as a coach or Buckley?
  6. Well, I'm telling you he won't be surplus to our needs. Vince and Jones won't be around forever and at this stage, IMO, Tyson is ahead of Viney despite the BnF result. We're going to need more mids in the future, so we won't be sacrificing the top mids that we do have to get other top mids.
  7. Jeffy will be 27 next year and showed this year that he's pretty inconsistent and as a result, we need back up. Matera is younger, but just as inconsistent. I rate Jeffy, but we need more options as well.
  8. They have been linked to the biggest players in the last 2-3 years and none of them have come off except Carlisle. The rest of those guys were nobodies at their previous clubs.
  9. Agree, mate. I'd take Matera, Vardy and Merret if we could get deals done for them. With the right attitude and environment, IMO, Matera could be a 40+ goal forward at the feet of Hogan, Weideman and Watts.
  10. He just recently re-signed so I hope they don't go for it. They don't have to. Gibbs will find his way there somehow.
  11. Interesting that Brad Crouch is being discussed by AFL.com.au as a possible swap for Gibbs. Would improve their midfield immediately.
  12. What's happened to that rumour? Has it gained any legs? Lewis is a sniper, but I'd take him for a year or two and then as a coach.
  13. And they look stupid and unattractive, because they hardly ever land them. This why I prefer our approach. I've heard we still enquire about a lot of players, but you never hear about this in the media, which enables us to maintain the integrity and worth of our brand on the open market.
  14. Yeah, the early giallos are the best. Argento hasn't made a good one for years. Yep, saw The Witch. I thought it was beautifully shot and created mood brilliantly, but yeah, didn't blow my socks off or shock me. If we're talking general European arthouse, can't go past Bergman. The Virgin Spring is great. I really like Brink of Life too, but it might be a little inaccessible. Persona is another. Back on US slashers, I love the early Friday The 13th films and A Nightmare on Elm Street too. Oh and if you're at all into comic surrealism Luis Bunuel was a genius. One of the key inspirations for David Lynch. You can even hear the Bunuel influence in Lynch's dialogue.
  15. I'm a big giallo fan. Seen any? Love the style, shotmaking and music. Giallos are the original slasher films but made in the 60s and 70s in Italy, with often American or English actors. Basically murder mystery thrillers. Here's a list of my favourites: By Dario Argento: - Deep Red - Tenebrae - The Bird With The Crystal Plumage By Sergio Argento: - Torso (probably the biggest influence on American college campus-based slashers) - The Case of the Scorpion's Tail By Lucio Fulci: - The New York Ripper - Lizard In Woman's Skin - Don't Torture the Duckling The House with the Laughing Windows (Pupi Avati) is worth seeing. I saw it at MIFF a few years back. Some also consider Brian DePalma's best film Dressed To Kill to be a giallo too.
  16. Yep. Players are [censored] stupid. They are so clearly on the way down, but they'll still make finals (most likely) in 2017. So you go there for more opportunities and to play in a few finals.
  17. It is also probably a bargaining ploy to ensure they don't ask for anything more for him. We start with a little more and we'd take it and run if we could get it done for next year's, but we'll also be happy to settle for this year's.
  18. They'll both dip further each year from here on out. Neither are winning the flag next year.
  19. I take it most have done STRANGER THINGS? The score and world is amazing. Loved it. Emmy-Award-Winning TRANSPARENT is back for season 3, which I'm looking forward to checking out. THE AFFAIR is back in November for season 3 as is, I think, THE FALL. THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE season 2 is also back before the end of the year. Amazon are smashing it. Oh and BOSCH should also be back for season 3 in early 2017. Been meaning to check out THE NIGHT MANAGER and watch the rest of FARGO season 2, which I started and then didn't finish.
  20. Tried Luke Cage last night too, mate. Didn't hook me. Is there a specific episode it hooked you?
  21. I think we'll win between 12-14 games. But it's pointless predicting wins at this stage. I also don't believe Brisbane will be the push overs you claim they will be. Their list is not actually that bad. Their midfield is decent if harnessed correctly. They have some young, emerging book ends and I think under decent tutelage, they'll win 5-7 games next year. They won't be the basketcase they were this year. I think North will finish in the bottom 6, possibly bottom 4 and Hawthorn and Geelong will come back to the field. GWS will be a scary proposition next year, fuelled by ultimate failure this year. And Essendon will start slowly in the first half of the year, but will improve generally as the year goes on. I can see them finishing anywhere between 12th and 6th, but more likely on the fringe of the 8. I think Gold Coast will be mid table next year. Their midfield is going to take a hit with O'Meara, Prestia and Swallow leaving or remaining injured. Ablett is another unknown, but I suspect he'll never be the player that he was again. His shoulder is too volatile. That puts them in a bit of trouble. I'm not convinced Eade is the man to take them forward either. He might be more of a list builder like he was at Sydney and then with the right coach in 2-3 years, they could be scary once more, with their access to top end talent in the Northern Academies and top draft selections they've acquired/will acquire. The biggest yard stick for us though is consistency and beating the sides below us that we should. I want to see a couple of spankings too. We managed one against the Suns this year, but there were a number of other games (namely the Freo game), where we should have rolled them by 10-15 goals. We also need to ensure there are no efforts like the Essendon, St Kilda (x 2), Carlton and Geelong performances next year. My fear is we've still got one or two of those games left in us next year. I expect to see improvement from the entire list, but the guys I'm most excited about next year are (in this order) Oliver, Petracca, Brayshaw, Hunt, Tyson, Hogan, Viney, Salem, Stretch and seeing how Gawn backs up his AA year. If we can get improvement out of all of those guys (our best players), we'll be pushing closer to 14+ games. History tells me we're another year or so off from having a realistic crack at the top 4 though. I also look forward to the new Goodwin style. I want to see more trust in our team mates and playing for each other. Blocking, shepherding, tackling at high intensity etc. The stuff the top 4 teams do. If we can put that together for 10-12 games next year, we'll be tracking well on our way.
  22. And I think people are underrating Hibberd's impact next year. He might start a little slowly being out of the game for a year, but his kicking will be vital for our half back sling shot.
