I don't want to hear excuses about Gawn being down or the umpiring going against us (as it undoubtedly did). The game was lost by our own feet. But if we learn from this and harness it to drive the rest of our season forward, then it hasn't been all for nought. Jones was terrific today. What a champ. He is an out and out A grader. He has taken that extra step. Kept us in the game with his clean pick ups and crisp disposals. Watts was pretty good too. The rest of the team contributed, but a couple of guys that worry me at the moment are Vince and Viney. Still not convinced by ANB's decision-making either.

I fear we've blown this one.

I'd argue that contact was after Pendlebury had almost kicked the Sydney player's head off. Should have been a free kick to Sydney before Collingwood.

Having gone to countless recent games against Geelong down at the Cattery (including 186 and our sweet victory in 2015), I still don't think we'll win. But here IMO is the caveat: we should win, because Geelong have actually not started that well and their midfield drops away very steeply after their two superstars. Quell those two and Hawkins and we should win. The problem is, I don't think we will. I hope I'm proven wrong.

As soon as Smith was playing, you knew Brayshaw would be dropped. With Kent ready and Vince a natural replacement for Lewis, one of the half forwards had to give. Hannan provided more than Gus both weeks and ANB was arguably the pick of the bunch both weeks as well. That left the underperforming Gus.

If Schache ended up at Richmond, he helps them, but they need decent midfield reinforcements. They drop away steeply after Cotchin, Martin and Prestia.

It's their midfield that looks slow and ordinary. They need more pace around the stoppages. Stop Kennedy and look down on Jones off half back and you should beat them, even with Heeney back.

Joshy is still a great midfielder. One of the best in the game, but now that the other mids around him aren't picking up some of the slack, all the attention goes on him.

Yep, Sydney midfield was very slow. Jones and Aliir had good games and make them look a bit quicker than they are. Really shown up on the outside. Hopefully St Kilda have their first win against Collingwood next week.

Let's see how our boys go tomorrow. Bit of a test of our depth as well.

I'm running out of fingers counting the amount of times one of the commentators (mainly Bruce) has misjudged a goal. He's a painful commentator nowadays.
