I've been prepared for a while. I just hope that, while you were writing this thread, you were getting prepared for naive and blind people coming in and flaming you. I don't think we will finish last, but near the bottom.

Melbourne FC > Melbourne Demons imo Mascots are a thing of the past. One of the smartest moves the board has ever done.
-
What exactly did you want them to do? Have a 10 minute segment on the new Melbourne CEO, when they knew nothing other then him being the CEO? I mean, seriously, it's news. It's not a massive announcement. I think you're overblowing it.
-
You guys have to consider that the shows plan was probably already drafted before the announcement came. An really, they mentioned it and that's all that was needed. I don't think it needed to be blown up.

Maybe we will sign sponsorship deals with Range Rover and Mt. Buller. How funny/good would that be!

IMO, that shows how much he cares about the club. He is a quiet admirer. He sits back and watches it succeed, but when it doesn't he lets the people know. Nothing wrong with that. It's better to critisise then gloat, and I hate it when a journalist is bias. There job is to be honest and truthful and give their true opinion. You could say he is being bias by mainly writing articles on Melbourne anyway. His job isn't to point out the good when he directly has nothing to do with it. If there is something good to say, then say it. If you can't note down the negetives then you'll never fix them. And what good exactly is there to point out? That we "could" have a good season? I mean, really, that's all he could say. Putting in a good word isn't going to fix anything. It's just going to show how blinded he is to the problems this club has, like many of you.

I didn't noticed it first hand, but now that I look it yet, yeah, there are a few mistakes. condemned - I got mine today, along with a whole bunch of nice stickers. I'm starting to like the "Melbournefc" and new logo more and more. It's so much more "Melbourne" then just a demon head.

I didn't even know you could renew over the internet? Don't they contact you beforehand regarding newing? Maybe it's best to just ring them up and renew that way?

I just threw up in my mouth a little... Thanks for the laugh, Yze_Magic *hug*

Neitz in doubt for round 1 (unconfirmed rumour)
praha replied to Dee1987's topic in Melbourne Demons
And so it begins... -
Gary Lyon pretty much says that before you can fix a problem, you have to be able to admit there is one. I've said quite a few times that this club is in more trouble then we think it is, both off and ON the field. Everytime I say I think we're going to have a terrible year, I get the typical, "Have faith" or "I'm sick if people like you...blah blah BLAH!" I'm not crying. I'm not angry. I'm just being realistic. This club is an absolute rabble. Gardner won't admit it, Bailey isn't in a position yet (only early stages of career) to admit it. Also, how on earth can a man with a full-time position successfully lead a club in the presidency? I've got no doubt Gardner is a great business man, but we've gone backwards. He's found us a home, granted, but anyone really could have done that. Instead of being where Hawthorn is and was after only 3 years after the 96 debacle, we're still down the bottom on memberships and finances. Also, I sincercely believe that the only reason Daniher was with us as long as he was, was because the board wanted it to be a last resort (sacking him). He's still getting paid, isn't he? Even if his not, he was consistently inconsistent and we achieved nothing under him. Don't say we made the GF, because his teams down years overtook that GF appearence. MFC is a rabble. No, that's an understatement. This club is at a crossroad, with no GPS, no watch, no water, no phone. Nothing. One road takes it to success. The other takes is to death. We're half-way down the road to death. We went up the right road for a while, but suddenly, we've walked back and headed down the other. Many of you bag the AFL and its actions. I bless them. Without the AFL, we wouldn't be here. Our "profit" (if you can call a few hundred K a profit when other clubs are making millions) was because of the AFL hand-out. Without it, we would have been in the red, even with record membership. That's disgraceful. They say membership means a lot, yet we would have been in the red if not for the AFL, Even with record membership. Believe it or not, I'm looking forward to this year. You know why? Because I'm very, very, VERY curious to see where and how my membership money gets put to use during a terrible time.

Having failed as a Melbourne president is hardly anything to cry over. Melbourne hasn't had a successful President in the last 30 years...

I was humming Get Back from the Beatles. Almost "A grand ol' flag", but not quite.

They are being paid to play football. To play football, they must be in the best physical and mental condition. Staying out beyond 1am before or after a training session/ after a game on a weekend cannot be good for someone whose job involves keep their body and mind up to shape. At school, you keep bad students inside at recess for misbehaving. This attempts to stop them from misbehaving in class so as to being to go out at recess. This curfew is in place to stop off-field problems and let the plays know that indescretions will result in punishment. It won't last. Also, Sheedy, your article is just a whole bunch of one-line paragraphs. Don't quite your day job.

I like Melbournefc. It gives the club a more traditional feel imo, and mimicks "FC" that's used by soccer teams. I don't think mascot's are as influential as much as they used to be. They could drop the demon tag altogether and I wouldn't care. As long as we're "Melbourne" and navy blue and red, I don't care.

We'll make the finals.

Being an infant.

I'm disappointed that Carlton got rid of Pagan. Personally, I think he was practically told to tank and refused too.
-
One of my most memorable Melbourne matches. Up there with the final win against Carlton in the first round of the finals in 94 and that win against the Eagles at Subi in 98 (which I was at. Arrived at quarter time). As for Green in the forward line, too late. He isn't developed as a FF, like he should have been under Daniher. Too bad Danners was a sap and was too dumb to realise the kid had the best kick in the league. As for Bruce, he sprays too many kicks to have to rely on in the forward line. His set-shot is shocking. He needs to be in and around packs and an extra man across the half-back line. Keep him as far away from the forward line as possible.

Is Walker a Melbourne man?
-
Won't happen. Although, with this current AFL administration, anything is possible.

In my opinion, being able to criticize and want perfection is better then having "faith" and never complaining about things that go astray, especially when $400+ of my money goes to support the club. I cry a river because I invest in this "business" (and it is a business) and I expect professionalism and success. I despise everything this club has done in the 18 or so years I've supported it. Yet, I still pay my membership, I still attend every game in Melbourne (and the occassional interstate match if my work trips overlap an interstate match) and I still believe, albeit with a strong sense of negetivity, that I will see a premiership before I die (and I'm 21, for anyone who is curious). Whether I'm in a majority or minority (people who pay up although they are fed up) I don't know, but understand this; we live in a different world then what we once did. Football is no longer just football. It's a business, and people subconciously, although probably unintentionally, look at it as an investment. When they see their investment fail (and, with current player problems, which could classify the failure as perhaps purposely portrayed) they see no reason to renew themselves as members. Before this club and its small group of die-hards cry a river themselves and say how they need everyone behind them, maybe they should take their fingers out of the back-side and achieve something for once. And I don't mean "being in the running" for a top calibre player. I mean winning something, and justifying my hard-earned money. I might be discrediting everything that footy is about, and that's passion, faith and support, but that's the hard truth. Clubs are coming undone now by a new generation that has a different perception, and mediocrity will no longer be saved by faith and support. Instead, it will be dealt a blow by logic and anger; it's logical to no longer invest in a company that has no obvious signs of wanting success, and anger through wasting effort, money and emotions. That's the way it is Jaded. I'll still be here, and so will you, but you need to consider the evolution of society and the way people think. This business has achieved nothing. And it never will until it focuses and puts its foot down on what it wants to achieve. And don't say it has, because if so, it would have achieved that goal over 2002-2006 when it had just as much a chance as the team that did win it. -end rant.
