  1. missing shots is part of the game. Saying "If we were more accurate we would have won" is the same as saying "If we'd scored more we would have won". You win and lose based on those metrics, and it may well be that our accuracy is more a reflection of the pressure being applied than it was simply us missing shots. I can't fathom how anyone that watched the second quarter could think we were the better side but simply missing shots. That was an abdolute pasting they gave us in the second quarter, and it won them the game.
  2. OUT: Hogan, Garlett, Jones, Pederson IN: Melksham, Hibberd, Weeds, Hannan Would rather Spargo than Garlett. When is Jeff's contract up? No more downhill skiers please.

Hutchy isn't. The rest of the panel were still confident and talking us up. For them it's disappointing. Hutchy is simply stating he won't fall for the hype until we do something relevant.

Hutcho is right in that we shouldn't be talked up until we beat a decent team. I get the feeling some commentators are just sick of the same narrative presenting itself time and time again.
  5. I'd argue that the losing and constant failures fuel the stereotypes but sure, blame the supporters who fork out $600 a year lol
  6. I'm not saying any one thing in particular. And I don't buy into the Norm Smith [censored]. I'm talking about stereotypes that linger and have lingered *over* 50 years (not 50 years ago, you keep returning to that). I'm highlighting that for us to make finals we have to break the chains. These are chains the football public has had shackled to the club for 50 years. I'm not making this up. It's everywhere for you to see. They have to change the narrative to play finals from here. that would be doing something it hasn't done in a long time, and that'd consistently beat good teams. It's not a secret, or my opinion. You can deny that the narrative and stereotypes exist. I'm sorry though but they do. I never suggested that things that happened 20, 30, 40, 50 years ago influence today's team's outcome. I am simply saying that collectively as a club it continues to struggle to turn that corner, feeding into hysteria around stereotypes and an expectation of failure. The only way to prove "supporters like me" wrong is to win games like the weekend. That loss was distinctively Melbourne in how it transpired. It ticked all the boxes for the quintessential Melbourne loss, in line with those stereotypes.
  7. did you read what I wrote? I said we have to break stereotypes. where did I say anything even remotely close to "we lost because of something that happened 50 years ago"?

"Thanks for putting up with our [censored], members! 12 years old of finals! Couldn't have done it without you. See you at the draft!"

between 150 and 160 we haven't played a single finals match lol What if we wear this after losing to WC, then lose to GWS? 160th anniversary guernsey, with members names written on, while we bundle out of contention and miss finals for the 12th (!) straight season. This should have been done earlier in the year. The timing really isn't ideal.

Hannbury would be an upgrade on Jones if we could pull it off.
  11. You're confusing reality with faith. We know the Melbourne Football Club exists. All faith is blind because faith has a prerequisite that you don't know what, when, how or why something may happen. Proof of God is irrelevant. Faith in anything is blind and there is nothing wrong with having faith. It's not the existence of the club you have faith in. I dare say faith in a club is more futile than faith in God, because there's no potential of those expectations of God leading to disappointment. Having faith in a club like Melbourne sets you up for disappointment because there is a higher level of expectation and standards. No one is expecting God's existence to suddenly be proven.
  12. watch pedo's pass to him in the last, leading to the speccie on his head. If you think Hogan is the problem, you're wrong.

they are ravaged by injury and may have 3rd spot stitched up by then.
  14. He's been useful in a few games but if leadership is so sorely MIA as it was yesterday, what is the point? We should have pushed for Hodge.
  15. Anyone who thinks we lost because of our kicking for goal is clueless. watch the second quarter. watch our defensive awareness (or lack thereof). Watch the latest All Access video on the AFL website. The club hasn't played finals in 11 years, we continue to buy memberships...watching that [censored] is infuriating. It was round 23 all over again. They were two down on the bench ffs. We are in year 5 of a rebuild. we mark the ball at half back with 90 seconds left, and look for a short pass. How dense can you be? How much of a loser can you be? To make finals we have to -- in two weeks -- break every stereotype that has clouded the club for 50 years. We haven't done it in 5 decades. How are we going to do it in 2 weeks?

Going to skip the game this weekend. Don't have the energy. Going to watch Mission Impossible and get a nice dinner. Will do the same against GWS unless we beat WC. No way I'm committing another weekend to being ruined.
  17. Jones is cooked. We have choked majorly each of the past 3 seasons and he's been a catalyst. Need to make tough decisions. He may well stay as captain but we'll continue to turn to water so long as he is top 22.
  18. OUT: Hunt, Pedersen, Jones, Garlett IN: Melksham, Hibberd, Hannan, Kent

    this is loser's upside.

stands to be one of the biggest chokes of all time. geelong set to displace us. 9th again. how heartbreaking. I'm dropping a tier or two next year. i can't justify $600 again.
  21. Drop Jones, Garlett. Play Fritsch forward. Move ANB in the middle, alternate with Trac. Bring in Hibberd, Milshake. Oliver to captain.

hawks have the exposure and class. you can't understate finals experience. we will eventually turn the corner but wholly agree goodwin isn't immune from criticism.
  23. we ignored the short option when it was necessary, but took it when it wasn't. why deliver a short pass when you're running inside 50, directly in front?
  24. praha replied to Perago Validus's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
Maybe. But we don't know. Goodwin also talks about the team and club taking hold of the opportunity. With Richmond you have a big club with decades of mediocrity. It is very tough to break that and kudos to them because they have done it superbly. Goodwin can be a very good coach. He is 23 wins, 19 losses, which is Daniher levels of good, not great. I am sure he is aware that the gap between good and great is larger than between bad and good. It's clear he is still learning, I think he has improved as a coach a lot as the season has progressed but we have been found out on game day with what I would call perennial losers. I don't think he is the reason we lost today. It was yet another lesson from a team and club with many runs on the board. I agree with him that we're very close "it's not funny" as he said after the Geelong game. Unfortunately, we may need to wait until 2019 to really find that breakthrough. And Goodwin's coaching will be really tested, not in the next two weeks, but in list development and change. He has some tough decisions to make this summer. We're going to see some club favourites moved on.

Not good looking. Has been average and a liability. The club and Jones should bite the bullet and go the Deledio route to help us land Gaff. We need some fresh insight and leadership, and I worry when I hear that Oliver and Trac are turning to the likes of Jones and Lewis for leadership. We need a leader that empowers and sets the example, at the moment he is staring down the barrel and it is costing us as a club. We need to continue making hard decisions as a club as we did with Watts.
