Bingo. So factoring in two players on our list were replacing long term injuries and we also had a Category B rookie, we can actually only take in 3 players less than the amount we let go. So we've currently said goodbye to 6 players, but only opened up 3 spots.
-
Still think we've got one or two more spots to clear. Think it will come down to if we can find a trade for Melksham or another senior player wants out? Factoring in the elevation from the start of the year from Jordon from the rookie to the senior list and if Chandler is extended, he'll also need to be elevated. That means we need to clear one more senior spot to have 3 picks at the draft. If we can't trade Melksham it puts Hore firmly in the gun it seems. Then it just depends how many of Deakyn Smith, Turner and Declase we want to keep. We can keep them all and then still have a rookie list spot available.

Wouldn't be surprised if this is worked in with the Lipinski trade given both Dogs and Filth need some players without giving away points in this year's draft. Could be Lipinski to Collingwood Collingwood's future 2nd Round Pick to Port Ladhams to Bulldogs Even that seems a bit much for Ladhams, but wouldn't be shocked if the trade looked something like that.

I believe so.
-
I wish he had. But nope, he was going for the now. Barrett couldn'tbelieve what he was hearing!
-
It's a sad, sad day when Damien Barrett is talking the most sense in a discussion about football!😳

Matt Rendell on Trade Radio just said Melbourne should take the captaincy off Gawn and give it to Petracca. Is this guy a bigger [censored] than Robbo I wonder???

Dogs need at least 2015 points for a potential bid for Darcy at Pick 2. They currently have 1025 (990 short) which are all attached to Pick 17. Their next pick isn't until 70 odd, outside the points scale. The only way they're trading Pick 17 is if it's for multiple picks in this year's draft to give them more points. Our future 1st gives them nothing. If we want to trade into this year's first round by using our future 1st Round Pick, Essendon or St Kilda are probably better bets as they might be looking to stock up on picks for a potential Ben King trade.
-
If we want to get the benefits of the time we've already put into him, then we'll need to draft him, and it appears inside the top 20 (potentially 10). As is common knowledge now, Mac Andrew is a development pick and likely wouldn't be ready for senior footy until 2024 or 2025. By that time Gawn will be 32/33 and likely coming towards the end of his career. Mac Andrew would be ready by then to step up and our ruck department is set for the next decade with a Jackson/Andrew ruck combination.
-
If we are in fact out of the race for Adam Cerra, I suspect the club will look to trade into the first round (top 15) in the hope to secure Mac.
-
That is a sound theory given the contract extension to Mitch. I think time will tell. Bedford and Chandler I see as keeping the heat on Pickett, Spargo and Nibbler. Definitely worth keeping IMO. And yes I agree, the likelihood of Hibberd playing 22 games is slim. But we have Hunt, Joel Smith and potentially Marty Hore (if he gets extended) as half back depth. Then there's also the potential drafting of Moniz-Wakefield who could play there. I think our list is looking pretty good IMO.
-
As others have said, given Melksham is contracted I expect he'll be with us next year. Just don't know who else would be interested in him at his age?
-
Bowser is now first pick there and I think Deakyn Smith will also be given time to develop. Also I think Moniz-wakefield who we have access to in the draft through our NGA has the ability to play back?
-
Sorry to see Jay go. First saw him out at Casey in 2018 where he was runner up in their B&F. Was thrilled when we picked him up and that he was given an opportunity to play at the top level. Has a good combination or run, skill and doesn't take a backward step either. Also has the ability to play back, forward and on a wing. Really hope he gets an opportunity at another club. He'd walk into a team like Carlton.
-
Loved Vanders, but to be fair I think we all saw this coming. With Sparrow and Jordon really coming on along with Woewodin as a Father/Son, Vanders didn't fit our age profile as a depth midfielder. A bit in shock re: Lockhart. Really thought he'd get a 1 year extension. Was expecting to see Hore's and or Mitch Brown's name instead. I hope they both get picked up by someone else.

To make it worse, Fox Footy are showing a couple of Grand Final replays from 1:30am. Dees v Pies 64' and Dogs v Swans 16' I hear you assume??? Nope. Hawks v Swans 2012 and Hawks v Swans 2014. WTF!!!!

Well if this morning's news on the AFL site is correct, we know Weideman won't be part of any trade for Cerra. Still won't rule out the club being able to get it done though if he nominates us.
-
No. If we nominate him and no one bids in the national draft, he automatically gets attached to our final pick in the rookie draft. (To my understanding)
-
Well our record in Grand Finals is really pretty good, so in theory they've only got four up their sleeves. 1958 which they've obviously used for this year. The year 2000 which we've seen someone show already. So that just leaves 1988 and 1954 as the other options.
-
Does anyone have/know what our unused 1988 Weg poster looked like? I agree the 58' doesn't make much sense and I always thought the 2000 one lacked a bit...
-
McAsey was a very highly rated junior and was a top 10 draft pick only two years ago. He would have at least as much trade value, if not more than Weideman without doubt.
-
No doubt. If we give them two first round picks however, they can play with those to try and move further up the order.
-
I get where you're coming from there, but the club have shown a great ability to get deals done over the last 5 or so years. I think it will come down to if any of our players wants out for any reason. For example if Sparrow wants back to South Australia, there could be a deal like. Sparrow to the Crows and Pick 33 to Richmond. Crows send Fischer McAsey to Richmond. Richmond give us Pick 15. We could then potentially do some sort of a deal like our Future 1st Round Pick, Pick 15 and Sam Weideman to Freo for Cerra and Pick 27. But as I said, I think it will hinge on one of our players wanting out.
-
I'm not against keeping Weed on a 2 year deal. Gives us some depth with a young enough player on not huge money who could still turn things around. And if he does, he puts himself in a great position after the 2023 season as a free agent. If he doesn't turn things around then we can delist him or let him walk then. Plus hopefully we draft a young key forward this off season, who by then would of had 2 years under their belt and will be ready to take the next step!
