Great post. The Tennis Club is the one that would need to make way and also makes the most sense. They're still on the old onticar tennis courts which are fast being removed and replaced with the Plexicushion courts, so it would make sense to help them on their way. The space where the courts currently are could be used for a carpark and buildings. And you're right, if we could turn Brunswick Street Oval into one of the premier AFLW grounds, it would really appeal to the community there.

I get what you're saying. My view point is that Fitzroy are essentially dead these day and Brisbane do little to nothing to keep their connection going, unlike Sydney with South Melbourne. As for the not in my back yard types comment, I agree there's plenty of them in that area (I lived there for a short while). All I'd say is we'd just need to look to make it as community friendly as possible. That's the best way to appeal to the lot in that area. We would only need it enclosed during game day times for the purposes of ticketing. Otherwise like Waverley currently or even Gosch's Paddock, it would be open for anyone to walk through as they currently do. The selling point of the development would be about improving the facility. Community Centre near the original entrance, do up the old Grand Stand removing the squatters and all new buildings to be built with a retro finish to fit into the area. It would also involve new Tennis Courts and club being built up near the North playground which is good for them and improved facilities at Alfred Crescent Oval which again is good for the Cricket Club.

Although it falls into the seat of Richmond in the state electorate which is safe Labor. As for those suggesting its too much of a shoe box, does anyone know what the dimensions are? Obviously as part of any build they can re-do the dimensions some what. We could at the very least get it Marvel Stadium size dimensions wise?

I know they're wedded to be as close as possible to the MCG precinct, but why they have not explored developing Brunswick Street Oval is beyond me. The ground has history being the home of Fitzroy Lions from 1896-1966, but with Fitzroy now gone we could take over their old home and make it our own. It's only 4km from the MCG, has plenty of room to develop being in the Edinburgh Gardens precinct (might need to convince to Tennis club to relocate up near the North playground and cricket club to Alfred Crescent Oval). They could refurbished the old Grand Stand to have the locker rooms/showers done up. Build their admin, physio, Gym and meeting rooms. Maybe as well as a little supporter style museum and community hub given there are current squatters in the Grand Stand. They could avoid the need for a pool with Fitzroy Swimming Pool near by and a social club by coming up with some sort of arrangement/sponsorship with Lord Newry Hotel across the road which could become a supporter hang out and meeting area. Finally it means that our AFLW team could play out of Brunswick Street Oval while our alignment with Casey can stay in touch with maybe one training session a week at Casey Fields with the VFL and VFLW sides staying at Casey Fields. That's just me though and instead it looks as though they'll keep trying to get something in the MCG complex.

Agree with the above. Time to go all in at Casey IMO. Otherwise the alternative for near the city could be Brunswick Street Oval.

Don't overthink it. Cyril Rioli played 1 game for Box Hill in 2014 which was the Grand Final despite playing exclusively for Hawthorn when fit earlier in the year. Why could he do that?? Because Hawthorn were still alive in the AFL. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-09-21/footscray-beats-box-hill-to-win-vfl-grand-final/5758992
  7. That's more around selection though isn't it? Joel Smith isn't an obvious replacement for Petracca. If they were to sub Petracca for Smith, Smith would need to go forward or back with one of those players then rotating into the midfield. If Dunstan was the sub, then maybe they would have made the change?
  8. Playing devils advocate, I'd ask if we don't have good depth, why has our VFL team gone through the year dropping only the one game??? I agree the decision to keep Baker was a little odd? Maybe it was due to our lack of genuine wingmen? But Chandler was named sub several times in 2021 and the FD clearly rate him. Bedford has gone past him this year however. Personally if you're right in contention then I see why you might only want to make the minimum amount of list changes required from season to season. However if you're some way off then I agree, you want to regenerate the list with a much stronger brush.

@poita is right. While our AFL team remains alive, all players are eligible for VFL finals. So a win over the Lions on Friday Night in the AFL ensures we have a full list to choose from for the VFL Grand Final should we make it.
  10. By my guessing it's quite simple. Daw has already retired and Mitch Brown will be desisted leaving 2 rookie spots. Rosman will be desisted and re-rookied while Chandler will be promoted which cancels eachother out. It sounds as though both Tomlinson and Bedford might be traded off the senior list at seasons end to other clubs while Baker will be delisted. That gives us 3 senior list spots and 2 rookie list spots. If we lose Jackson we can bring Grundy in for him and what happens from there on in with Hunt, Hibberd and Melksham can determine if we use more than 3 picks or target other trade options or DFA's.
  11. They also share that population of support with another 32 NHL teams, 30 NBA teams, 30 MLB and 28 MLS teams. And that's just the other major codes.
  12. While I agree that he hasn't shown much at Carlton, I reckon that's Carlton playing him out of position and developing him poorly. Reckon we could turn him around.
  13. Wouldn't be against Stocker as a DFA for some mudfield depth. Untapped talent. https://www.afl.com.au/news/837122/blues-delist-first-round-pick-mid-season-draftee

Optimistic of a good win on Saturday. We're tough to beat out at Casey Fields at the best of times and by my counting we could have up to 19 AFL listed players run out against the Lions. Throw in Jimmy Munro, Mitch White and Matt Buntine for support and we should have our 3rd Grand Final appearance in the VFL in seven years.
  15. Both looked good in the VFL earlier today.
  16. Not be surprised.
  17. MadAsHell replied to Dingo's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
Nope. Casey Football club were assured of two finals at Casey Fields by the VFL after winning the minor premiership.
  18. With Petracca's hair line fracture they're going to need to throw him forward IMO. He can play Melksham's role which just means we need some cover in the midfield. IN: Dunstan, Bedford* OUT: Melksham, Harmes* *Only if suspended. FB: Lever, May, Hibberd HB: Rivers, Petty, Salem C: Harmes*, Brayshaw, Langdon HF: Neal-Bullen, B. Brown, Spargo FF: Fritsch, Petracca, Pickett FOLL: Gawn, Viney, Oliver INT: Dunstan, Hunt, Jackson, Sparrow SUB: Bowey EMERG: Bedford*, J. Smith, Weideman
  19. Nothing to be nervous about. We've been waiting for finals since the end of Round 10 and have been building nicely. Swans are an honest team who won't roll over for us, but I expect a clinical win of between 20-35 points as we start the flex our muscle with our superior finals game.
  20. I'm not saying I'm a genius or nothing!😁
  21. Lions for a backs against the wall win over Richmond by 2 points. Melbourne to show Round 23 was no one off and put in a clinical performance against a disciplined Swans team that aren't good enough by 31 points. Collingwood to continue their crazy run against the retirement home down the highway by 5 points. Fremantle to be just too strong and too disciplined for a Dogs team out of puff by 28 points.

I'd prefer De Koning from Carlton. But just two injury free years of a Gawn/Grundy combination in the ruck could be what finally gets us those 4 consecutive flags after we take care of business later this month.
  23. MadAsHell replied to Ouch!'s post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
Whether they needed points for Jamar or not is irrelevant. They still handed over a 1st Round Pick which is the whole point. Time will tell. And if Grundy goes for a 2nd round pick or less than I'll eat humble pie and admit I got it wrong. Pretty confident that won't be the case however. I think there's a bit too much wishful thinking on this site IMO.
  24. MadAsHell replied to Ouch!'s post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
It may have worked out that way as they had Jamar in the draft that year. But are they on the record saying they wouldn't have traded Pick 14 if it weren't for Jamar? I suspect not, meaning whatever the other circumstances that were happening at the time, they still traded a 1st Round Pick for a salary dump.
