  1. Great gutsy win by the Boomers over Germany tonight 89-76. Germany were on and it took us some time to adjust to the loss of Baynes, but a great win. We got killed on the glass without him, which is of some concern, but this Boomers team has guts! Next match will be the Quarter Finals. We'll have to wait about 24 hours to find out who our opponent will be. I suspect it will most likely be Slovenia or Argentina, but we'll wait and see.
  2. Esther Qin has won her way through to the women's 3m Springboard final in the diving tomorrow at 4pm.
  3. Kaylee McKeown sorry, for some reason I was naming her sister who competed at the last Olympics... In other news our mens waterpolo team were flogged again 16-5, this time by Spain. Have a match to come against Kazakhstan which we should win, but given the goals against to for differential that we have, it looks unlikely we'll progress to the Quarter Finals.
  4. Hockeyroos defeat Argentina 2-0 to go through their group match undefeated. A fantastic win! Will now meet either India or Ireland in the Quarter Finals who we should be far to strong for.
  5. After Taylor McKeown's efforts today, we are only 1 gold medal away from equalling our greatest ever performance in the pool and 2 away from our best ever. Tomorrow is the final day in the pool for the games and we've got three chances to make the marks. Our best chance is probably in the women's 50m Freestyle witn Emma McKeon fastest qualifier and Cate Campbell there to. Then another good chance comes in thd Womens 4x100m Medley relay with the same two listed above along with Taylor McKeown and Chelsea Hodges to do a job in the breastroke. Our final chance is the mens 4x100m Medley relay with Mitch Larkin, Izac Stublety-Cook, Matthew Temple and Kyle Chalmers. Gold medal probably highly unlikely there, but you never do know?
  6. Bronze for Australia in the Mixed medley relay. I do question the decision to go with Temple in the Butterfly and McKeon in the freestyle as opposed to McKeon in Butterfly and Chalmers in freestyle, but they've done extremely well.
  7. Silver for Australia! Titmus swims a PB and Commonwealth record to claim silver behind Ledecky. Made her earn it and swam a great race!
  8. Gold & Bronze to Australia! McKeown & Seebohm repeat what McKeon & Campbell did yesterday! What an effort from Seebohm claiming an individual medal in her 4th games!
  9. Think it's fair to say the Opals era is over. Lost to China by 2 points for an 0-2 start to the campaign. Can still make the Quarter Finals with a big win over Puerto Rico, but can't see us going beyond that the way they're playing. Opals fought to the end tonight, but their lack of star power (no Jackson, Taylor, Timms etc) seems to be the difference.
  10. So outside the remarkable effort of the Matildas, it continues to be a challenging day for our teams. Womens Waterpolo team have gone down to Spain 15-9. Let's hope the Opals can bounce back against China shortly.
  11. One of our most famous victories in soccer ever! The Matildas defeat Great Britain 4-3 in extra time. Sam Kerr with a double. What an achievement!
  12. Ash Barty & John Peers have been beaten in the Mixed Doubles Semi Final in a third set super tie breaker. They'll now have to battle it out for Bronze.
  13. Dirty day for our womens 7's team. After a shock loss to USA this morning they've lost their Quarter Final to Fiji 14-12 and will not be able to defend their Gold Medal from 2016.
  14. Matt Wearn has secured us another gold in the sailing. Not official on the tally as yet as the event doesn't finish for a few days, but he's so far ahead he isn't getting caught!
  15. Del Solar/Clancy have lost their final group match against the Russians 21-8, 15-21, 15-12. The good news here is that the girls didn't play well at all (especially in the first set) but only just lost and fought it out. Will wait to see who they draw in the Round of 16, but it won't be an easy match whoever it is.
  16. A sloppy Kookaburras have just missed out on going through the group winning every match, conceding a late goal to draw with Spain 1-1. This game had no effect on where they would finish as they were guaranteed to finish 1st in their group and it was essentially an elimination final for Spain, with the draw getting them through to the Quarter Finals, where a loss would have left them vulnerable. Nothing to be concerned about at this stage, as the Kookaburras have saved their best hockey for their best opponents so far (India 7-1 & Argentina 5-2), but would still have liked to go through to the knockout stage with a win ideally.
  17. Meanwhile a set back to our Rugby 7's women's team with a shock loss to USA. Will still progress to the Quarter Finals, however our draw won't be as kind as we would have been hoping.
  18. Yep, we've now bettered our Gold medal haul from London & Rio and come equal with Atlanta 96'. Only one Gold away coming into what would be one of our top 5 Gold medal hauls of all time if I'm not mistaken. 04', 00', 08', 56' & 96' being the current top 5 if I'm not mistaken?
  19. Gold & Bronze for Australia! Well done Emma McKeon winning gold & Cate Campbell coming back in her 4th Olympics to claim bronze. What an amazing effort to both!
  20. Another gutsy 1-0 victory for the Hockeyroos, this time over New Zealand. Assured themselves of a top 2 finish in their group.
  21. We've had a few really good days, so no shock if we have one or two quite ones. We've already won the same amount of Gold that we did in both Rio & London after only 6 days, so it's been a very successful Games for Australia so far.
  22. Men's Waterpolo team comes crashing back to earth with a 14-8 loss to Serbia. Were down 10-1 at the half, so they fought it out well. Still in contention for a Quarter Finals birth.
  23. Ash Barty & John Peers are through to the Mixed Doubles Semi Finals with a 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 (super tie break) win over their Greek opponents.
  24. Redemption for Jess Fox. Gold for Australia!!!
  25. Great Semi Final run from Jess Fox. Well and truly in contention for a medal in the next few hours!
