  1. Garry Lyon did a quick run through of Melbourne's next premiership side and put Scully and Butcher in it. Although when quizzed on Butcher vs best available he did say he had little idea as he hadn't seen enough of them to make judgement.
  2. I must confess i haven't really followed Jamar closely over his career. I have before this year liked PJ but this year Jamar has overtaken him in my eyes anyway. I don't really watch ruckman closely i admit. Anyway is Jamar always injury prone or has it just been this year? I think a bad year with injury is common in a 10 year career and doesn't always mean a player will continue to have injury concerns.
  3. You can refuse any father son and take your chance in the draft if you desire. I doubt id have much loyalty to my father's football team if i never knew him until there was something in it for him/them. Good comedy value though.
  4. Bailey said he is still fairly keen to make Martin a KPP and longer target for us. Also mentioned Watts inside 50 with Sylvia and Bate. Brushed over Miller a bit. Then mentioned Garland as able to play both forward and back. Finally mentioned Morton as a similar height to Pav and Roo. I think that is a strong indication he has his forward line all planned out and will go with 2 mids in the draft.
  5. Haha Yeah im absolutely sure that im way off. It was Laurence Angwin they took with pick 7 that year far worse than Meesen. Meesen was the top 10 pick they got wrong when got Bate and Dunn. With Meesen we now have 3 top 15 picks from the 2004 draft.
  6. Thing that pisses me off with the Thompson deal was Adelaide passed on him in the first place. They had a pick well before ours but went for a young up and comer in Meesen. Realisticly Adelaide wasted there pick but they got a gun midfielder by virtually default. When Meesen comes good next year though we will shove it back up them and wave on the way past as we rise up the ladder and they slide down it.
  7. I'd give up on first West Coasts pick and have a look at Hawthorn's. Don't think this would work but i don't think its to far fetched either. Trade our pick 18 to Freo for Tarrant. (doubtful they would go for it) On trade Tarrant and Jamar to Hawthorn for there pick 6/7. Hawthorn need a ruck and key backman. Jamar's toughness at the man and ball would really compliment Bailey when he comes good from his knee reco. (Jamar isn't highly rated by the footy public but im sure Hawthorn's football department could see his worth.) With WA's dominant U18's side there must be a worthy youngster to give up an ageing Tarrant. Melbourne could then possibly take Scully, Butcher and Rohan. While losing Jamar would hurt might help fast track Spencer and Meesen's development.
  8. Imagine the out cry and people calling for Malthouse's head if pies do go out in straight sets. Would be worth watching for sure. I'd have to back the Saints in at this stage.
  9. Did we get something good for him at least? or just the satisfaction of beating Carlton?
  10. Slightly off topic but Whats Cale's brother Jarryd like as a player. I notice he is slightly older, shorter and heavier than Cale. Not much difference though. I haven't seen him play and he doesn't seem to be getting oppurtunities at Hawthorn this year. Cale is going to be a gun no doubt about it, doesn't mean his brother will be but would he be worth having a look at?
  11. Very dangerous to flirt with your form heading into finals. Wouldn't worry about them tanking. They would much rather a top 4 spot than worry about us.
  12. Sandilands is going to win the taps regardless of whether we put Valenti or Jamar agianst him. Its up to the midfielders to make sure it doesn't go to advantage. PJ picks up more possessions around the ground than Jamar which is why i think he can be more dangerous. Sure some of his possessions are more dangerous to us than them but what can i say i still like PJ and hope he can turn it around.
  13. I think PJ is our best option for Freo. Tap work has absolutely no relevance for any player on our list when opposed to Sandilands. Hopefully he can run around get a few touches and make the big fella accountable.
  14. If he was an excellent shot for goal i think everyone would look past his flaws. Must like Anthony for the pies. I dont rate him as a footballer except his kicking for goal is almost flawless. Only needs 2 or 3 marks inside 50 per game and you can almost bank 2 or 3 goals.
  15. If he practices nothing but kicking from now until pre-season starts i will agree with you and get behind him. Otherwise ill have to pass.
  16. Watts, Jack Frawley, James Morton, Cale Bate, Matthew Jurrah, Liam Garland, Colin Sylvia, Colin Moloney, Brent Davey, Aaron Grimes, Jack
  17. I think with our young list and lack of older experienced players personality off field should be a big factor in who we choose too. Obviously i have no idea what is really going on behind closed doors but i could see a wild child (like a young Colin Sylvia) possibly disrupting the whole group. The club would be too professional to let it get out of control but even the smallest distraction is too much at this point i think. Maric didn't do much wrong but it is a reminder how quickly and easily young men with a lot of time on their hands and living their dream can slip up. Having an Ego is required for being a top player but must be balanced by a strong team ethic. There is so much more to consider with 2 highly prized picks than just playing position alone. I must say though i have more confidence than probably ever before that the club is heading in the right direction and will leave no stone unturned in there quest for the ultimate glory.
  18. Will be great for the future having a loyal Demon looking after the best 16 year olds.
  19. Sounds like an intelligent young man with his head in the right place. Excellent example of why we need to show loyalty and keep our few older players around as long as they can contribute on the field.
  20. Must go best available which isn't butcher. http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/afl...7-19742,00.html Not sure we worked that hard for the PP though.
  21. Going by the versatility thing Bailey has going Trengove could be our man. IF Trengove as ive read somewere is a strong overhead mark and kick for goal we may not need a Butcher type stay at home forward. We could develop a very versatile mobile forward line. Sylvia, Trengove, Davey, Petterd, Wona and Maric, can all play Midfield/roaming forward roles. Jurrah in what little game time he has had has shown he could run all over the ground. Watts, Morton and Martin could all provide tall mobile targets capable of pushing up the ground. We could make it very difficult for the bigger full backs to find a match up against us. Whoever the traditional stay at home full back goes to just pushes further down the ground taking him out of his comfort zone. Meanwhile another forward can push deep taking his opponent deep and also out of his comfort zone. Basically through rotating our forwards we can reshuffle their backline to the match ups that we want deep and run the bigger backs off there legs.
  22. Over on big footy they are talking a Davey for Hale trade. Some are even saying keep Hale. You got to love people's high hopes. No way i'd trade Rivers. Hale would be interesting though at present he got dropped from a team that lost 9 in a row. Wouldn't rate him in too highly.
  23. After reading this it really sounds like Morton is in it for the long run. http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tab...74/default.aspx
  24. Had Dangerfield said he wants to come home ? or are we talking Hypotheticals here?
  25. Trade i'd like to see considered is Adam Campbell from the Dockers. Saw him a couple of times last year and thought he looked a lively type. Hasn't done anything this year though i think he has been injured for part of it. He is 24 and a 194cm forward who comes from Victoria. (NZ orginally but don't hold that against him) Wouldn't cost much i don't think. Is well behind Pavlich at the Dockers and i think he could be a good forward with the right development and opportunities. (Freo's development is still lacking i think) Has anyone seen anything is this bloke? or even seen him play?
