I'd add the Harmes pass to Hogan. It wasn't through traffic, but it was a perfect low hard pass that gave the defence no chance at all of stopping the mark.

Caro's latest rumourmongering.
RalphiusMaximus replied to RalphiusMaximus's topic in Melbourne Demons
On a more interesting subject, they just threw to the ad break saying they would be discussing the Demons' win next. I think this is the first time I've heard it referred to as Melbourne winning rather than Collingwood dropping the game. Nice that somebody is willing to admit we were at the ground. -
That was a great pass.

Caro's latest rumourmongering.
RalphiusMaximus replied to RalphiusMaximus's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'll send her flowers and chocolates with the apology letter. -
Footy Classified tonight. Caro is trying to defend her stance that Clarko will be coaching Collingwood next year. The other panelists challenged her on whether she has any actual sources on that stance. Well, no, but the facts are that Clako is unsigned and Buckley's position has never been shakier and while Hawthorn refuse to announce a new contract for Clarko they are contributing to this sort of speculation. That right there is quality journalism. She takes one fact, some completely unrelated speculation and makes up a story to bignote herself.

How do you know you're a Collingwood Supporter? - You keep telling your 12 year old not to smoke while she's breastfeeding, but she just won't listen.

Totally agree, it was a nasty sniping act from a guy who couldn't handle being beaten to the ball by a ruck. Incidentally, I just did a quick search, and May was suspended for three weeks last year for a head-high hit on Rockliff. That activates the extra week clause. Looking at the footage, that was a far less severe impact than this one. I doubt if they'll go that lightly on him this time. YouTube

Mumford hit his man front-on in a tackling action. Impact was mainly with his chest. May hit Martin with his shoulder in a bumping action. He jumped into the hit which has traditionally been considered a big no-no by the tribunal. MRP guidelines would regard the Mumford hit as a more or less legitimate tackle, possibly a free kick given that he took the guy high, but that's for the umps to call at the time. He didn't pin the arms or sling the player, so they don't care. The guidelines for a bump are very different and May ticked pretty much every box. He ignored the ball and instead chose to hit the player. He clearly hit him high. As I said before, he jumped into the hit. HE also has a bad record, so not only will he not be able to take an early guilty plea (assuming it goes directly to the tribunal), he gets no discount for a good record and may in fact get a penalty for a bad one. I'm just looking through the MRP guidelines from 2015 and I see that High impact and high contact is an automatic referral to the tribunal. Also, if the player has been suspended for two weeks during the last two years he automatically gets an extra week added to the penalty, which I think May has. A high impact shot to the body is a three week ban and the medium impact shot to the head is a week more than for the body, so I would guess he's looking at 5 weeks. That's four as a base for his High impact head-high bump, then an extra week for his bad record. Edit: Here's the info I was looking at - http://www.afl.com.au/staticfile/AFL%20Tenant/AFL/Files/2015TribunalBooklet.pdf

DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - Round 4
RalphiusMaximus replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6 - Viney 5 - Lamumba 4 - Watts 3 - Hogan 2 - Gawn 1 - TMac. -
How much did you win?
-
6 goals, 35 disposals and 17 marks between them. Add to that the 39 disposals, 3 goals and 10 marks from Pedersen and Frost and the tall forwards are looking very nice today.
-
There's plenty to say about the game today. Best game of their career for Frost, Bugg, Wagner and Hunt. Admittedly for Hunt and Wagner that's not such a stretch, but true nonetheless. If Frost had given the return handball instead of U-Turning and getting nailed in a tackle Watts would have equaled last year's goal tally in round 4. As it is we'll have to wait another week. By this of course I mean that Watts is in great form and we're loving it. In the same vein, how good is the chemistry right now between our tall forwards? Watts 17 disposals 8 marks and 4 goals 1, Hogan 18 disposals 9 marks 2 goals 2, Frost 19 disposals (!!!) 5 marks 1 goal 2 and Pedersen 20 disposals 5 marks 2 goals. That is massive. Hogan is loving the freedom of playing CHF while the others rotate through FF and it must be hell on the defence to try to match up when they are constantly switching around through FF, CHF and wing the way they did today. I am so happy with the look of Wagner and Hunt as the two rebounding HBFs. They are still very raw and need a lot of polish, but the signs are very good. If Hunt improves in his second game as much as Wagner did then he'll look great next week. It's easy to focus on the big improvers, but I have to mention the efforts of the usual suspects as well. Viney is leading the way on field. Jones was the workhorse we expect him to be, Tyson is getting his mojo back, the great wall of Dunn, Jetta and TMac were as strong as ever and Gawn is backing up his talk in the pre-season and making a big claim to being one of the best rucks in the league. Also a big thumbs up to Lamumba. I think it's pretty clear that the coaches sat him down after round 2 and told him the long bomb was no longer going to be part of his game. Last week you could see him setting up for it and then changing his mind and actually hitting targets. This week he did it better, was more fluid and all of a sudden his disposal is becoming really damaging. If he keeps this up he's going to give the B&F a very good shake. Wow. That was just a really complete team performance. If we play like that every week we'll go really close to playing finals.

COLLINGWOOD VFL v CASEY SCORPIONS
RalphiusMaximus replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Very roughly 300% or so. We were 178-35 last week right? -
They don't need any help to look silly. This is why the AFL shouldn't let the umpires be miked up.
-
So, did anyone have Brisbane to win?
-
No doubt. It was clearly a mark. Terrible umpiring.
-
For some reason nobody ever tags Sam. They all seem to think there are better targets and let him run free.
-
Anyone putting money on Sam Mitchell for Brownlow? He's had yet another 40+ disposal game.
-
They're not going to play him until he signs a ten year contract.
-
I honestly don't see that many changes. Garlett in for Vince is the obvious, but we played really well so why would they change things they don't have to?
-
Just watched the first half on TV. Viney, Gawn and Lamumba our best so far. Salem also having an impact. It's so much easier to see this stuff on a big screen. Also six goals to North directly from frees so far. I think one of them might have been a real free too.
-
As I understand it, this was tweeted during the first quarter.
-
Easy. A player can duck, drop the knees, twist, whatever. However, if in doing so that player causes high contact, it's play on. Thus the infamous Selwood arm-lift and twist would be considered an attempt to evade the tackle and play-on. Ducking under an arm, turning into the tackler headfirst, dropping the knees... All play-on. Only call it a high tackle if the action of the tackler creates the high contact.
-
I don't know if it still holds true, but umpires in the reserves used to hate reporting players because they then had to show up to the tribunal hearing and give their evidence. Much easier to "see nothing" than to give up your Monday night.

DEMONLAND PLAYER OF THE YEAR - Round 3

I too would like to know how you run this system. These things are always interesting.
