He simply removed the number '11' from his twitter handle.

My guess is that if you were in a court case with say Fred Nile who claimed he was 'offended' by something you said that you might have a different opinion. If you have well funded minority groups firing off legal claims left right and centre about being offended you are going to suffer from censorship everywhere. Frankly as we have in this thread. Its an expensive exercise defending a spurious lawsuit as I have done and most people will stay well away from it when faced with zealous, well funded groups that are easily 'offended' - whatever that means. Its a terrible addition to what was a perfectly adequate existing law.

Great. You persevere with someone like, say Watts or Jamar and after 6 yrs they say adios. Toumpas is coming up to his third year and arguably we have got nothing out of him. Let's say he does Ok next year. We might get two good years put of him before he decides to go home. He may not come good for another 3 years. That sucks and no one will want to develop players. PLayers better watch themselves because no-one will draft a ruckman or maybe even a big bloke that will take time to develop.

If he hasn't built an engine by now he is never going to...

If only he had a full pre season.....

Good on you. Fair enough. To me the whole debate is about that word. What is offence? Wow you'll get a lot of answers from a lot of different people. Its impossible IMO to legislate and deal with this in a court of law.

Yeah, we could have had Judd with double shoulder surgery as well....

And there lies the problem

You are just wrong. It is disappointing when people sprout off with definitive statements such as yours without actually knowing WTF they are talking about. Section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act legally prevents a person from insulting, humiliating, offending or intimidating another person or group on the basis of their race. It is the law the got Andrew Bolt into trouble for suggesting some people were receiving benefits of being aboriginal (such as givernment grants etc) but they did not 'look' aboriginal.

Or we could ask the Greens who say we should stop using the word terrorist because it 'demonises' people. Wouldn't want to hurt the beheaders feelings now would we....
-
We already had that. Now we have a law that says you can't 'offend' someone based on same. I am guessing there would be at least a million ways to define that. Try grasping that before sprouting the 'not that hard to grasp' dismissive line.

This thread is embarrassing.

Absolutely right. You can disagree with what he said (and I do) but he did not vilify anyone. He simply said you ought to be able to do it. To ban him is insanity. What is happening here is the textbook definition of political correctness.

So do Cameron Ling wants to know if Rangas get protected??

We have never had free speech in this country. It is not an enshrined right as it is in the US.

I thought one of the big issues was that he was already on BIG dollars and felt guilty?? So the talk of him chasing money seems a little odd...

That would be the biggest load of carp I have ever read on Land. And there has been plenty.

Its opposites day....

Not at all why would you say that? Because you disagree with me?

It is a very slippery slope when you have legislation to support the right not be offended. What is offence anyway? I'm offended by some of the comments on this thread but some others may not be. Who determines that? Some nebulus concept called community standards? Which community? What standard? Just sayin...

Gee I see the PC brigade is out in force today

What? Did you even read my post?

This year there was a media frenzy because we hadn't chosen a successor. All this does is alleviate that pressure. Gives them some flexibility.
