If the last qtr free kick count happened to Ess, Haw, Geel, North, Adel, StK, Bulldogs, Rich or COll there would be outrage on forums, in the print media, on TV and from the club. At the Dees nothing. There is a fine line between whinging, taking the good with the bad or fighting. While it cant change the result this club needs to stand up for itself and make some noise. We are constantly on the wrong end of this stuff. A few years back we were 23 free kicks to 3 at half time at Subiaco. Not a peep from the media or the club. Umpires that refuse to pay obvious frees like the TMac chop should simply be dropped. We have to deal with that and yet against Carlton we had a maggot pay a free against ANB from 100m away in the first minute for a legitimate push and shove. It cost us a goal. Rant over

8 free kicks to North vs zero for Melb in last qtr The TMac chopping arms on the wing was a disgrace as was the Watts tackle Full Time 3/4 time Half time 1/4 time

Sniper? Someone take your dummy this morning?

No it doesn't. But a lot of teams have dominated us with contested marks around the ground to control the footy. CMs aren't just in the fwd 50. Watts can't take a CM to save his life. Trac, Gwn, Jetta and TMac are the few that I fell comfortable with in one on one marking. 2017 Marks 1521 (Ess 1st 1876), CMs 163 (Ports 1st 258) Hogan 41 Gawn 29 2016 Marks 1791, CMs 244 (yearly total) Hogan 149, Gawn 91

And if yesterday showed anything its that we are practically bereft of leadership at times. Can't have enough experienced players.

Where has anyone said Oscar should be dominating? Yours is such a gratuitous and condescending post. We all know OMac is young and hasn't played many games. You don't need to be Capt Obvious to work that out. He may well turn out to be very good. I personally don't think so but I am not writing him off. He doesn't have any traits that mark him out as a decent defender. He wouldn't be in the team if we had a better option. The fact is we have a leaky defence and we are woeful at contested marking and defending one on one. We won't go anywhere until we fix it. And if OMac doesn't make it, we don't have much coming behind him to plug the gap.

We are 17th for contested marks. There are no excuses. We aren't very good at it.
-
And came back to kick 5 the next week....
-
They were 17th on the ladder with 7 losses on the trot. Yep we all see things differently. Some don't want to see the glaringly obvious at all.

Gerrard Healy said he could play with a plate in in possibly 3 weeks. COuld then have it taken out over summer.

I have said all year our defence leaks goals. Yet again we got taken to the cleaners. The elephant in the room are our key tall backs. Hibberd has had a great year. Jetta is outstanding, Hunt has done well but OMac and Frost while doing some good things have been toweled up by bigger bodied tall fwds like Brown, Roughhead, Walker, Daniher, Reiwoldt, Casboult, Hawkins etc We desperately need a Lever. Facts are: 1. teams score 53% of the time they enter our fwd 50 - last in the AFL 2. We lose 35% of defensive one on ones - last in the AFL You cannot win finals with a defence like that. In fact you will struggle to make finals. OMac is simply a liability. May become a footballer one day but gets outbodied regularly, has no urgency or intensity and frankly plays a lot of dumb football. He flies to spoil and either misses the ball or or hits it straight into a dangerous spot like the corridor. Plenty on here bang on about what a massive improvement he has made this year but I maintain if we had a decent tall back he wouldn't be playing. Frost has some great attributes but makes a lot of errors spoiling. leaving his man, fumbling and taking on more than he can chew. We cannot take a contested mark to save ourselves. We rank 17th in contested marks. Clearly we have had to move TMac to the fwd line and so rob our defence but the evidence is pretty clear that he makes a good forward and so won't be returning any time soon. Until we fix our defence we aren't going anywhere. Throw the kitchen sink at Lever.

That was virtually a full strength side excl Jones. FMD we are mentally weak. leadership? Non far king existent.

What would have been smart would be to say: "given my history at the MFC its best that I don't comment" What a knucklehead to even go near that subject. Sticking you head up to get smashed,

Given last year's issue with preliminary finalists you would think the club is all over this. The club has amazing data on players over and above normal footy stats. The GPS tracking can monitor sprints, jogs, overall distance etc. They know how many contests a player gets to etc. Any drop off would be looked at and a rest plan implemented. Having said that I have a sneaking suspicion Maynard might come in for Clarry this weekend.....

Kind of you to spell it out. You were saying we weren't a sleeping giant because we got 27k to a game against an interstate side. Yet Collingwood that has 5.72 gazillion supporters - and is clearly a giant - only got 22k to a game on the same weekend. Doesn't that mean we did well with our crowd? The second highest home and away crowd between the two clubs?

Kevin Sheedy is still [censored] we overlooked him for coach.....just sayin....
-
Petracca, Viney, Hogan, Gawn and OMac (just kidding about the last one...)
-
Rockliff also doesn't like the Dees apprently. We supposedly promised him a rookie spot and took Jurrah instead at the last minute....

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - COREY MAYNARD
jnrmac replied to Straight Sets Simon's topic in Melbourne Demons
This is the guy I am most excited about down at Casey. Could be a real smokey and seems to be tearing it up in the midfield.... -
Brisbane Times Sydney have blocked Paul Roos' bid to anoint his former Swans assistant Stuart Dew as his coach-in-waiting at Melbourne, refusing to release Dew from his contract. Roos' latest attempt to plunder his old club has prompted the intervention of Swans chief executive Andrew Ireland, who communicated the club's determination to hold on to Dew to Melbourne counterpart Peter Jackson. The unusual nature of Melbourne's coaching structure means a senior assistant appointed under Roos will be guaranteed the senior coaching position as early as 2016 or 2017 at the latest. Roos and Jackson argued that Dew should remain subject to the AFL coaching environment's ''gentlemen's agreement'' which allows assistant coaches to be released from their contracts for a senior role. Leon Cameron was released from Hawthorn on that basis at the end of last season even though he was not immediately becoming a senior coach but had been promised the job in writing for next year. The Swans begged to differ where Dew was concerned, leaving Hawthorn assistant Adam Simpson, departing Swans assistant Leigh Tudor and West Coast assistant Scott Burns firmly in the frame to work under Roos before almost certainly replacing him.

Rockliff and C you next Tuesday are often used in the same sentence

Get Trengove to tag him....

Sounds painful. Is that a new injury?
