  1. So with Turner dropped we look like going in pretty short with no back up for Max. Could be deja vu all over again

Sorry Tom Would have loved to see you debut for the club. Maybe you need to kick 15 goals this week to get a look in
  3. We have 1 win from the past 9 games with massive scoring issues and Goodwin drops a marking forward and replaces him with a winger. He's taking the [censored] now surely.
  4. This. Add to the list of selection integrity issues
  5. pretty sure they dominated the air with two rucks and Grundy rucking by himself as Max was injured. A sorry wet day and we were poleaxed. Grundy's fitness and attitude was called into question and I suspect that was the beginning of the end for him at Melbourne
  6. How's your memory? 🤣
  7. The quantity might be similar but there is a world of difference with someone like Burgess who had our players believing they could play through pain and that their superior fitness attitude would see them run out games better than the opposition and that we did with regularity during 21 and 22
  8. Reinforces my view that we are OK with the defence, contest and forcing turnovers but are clueless with ball in hand.

we recruited a 50 game 28yo in McAdam
  10. That would give SG cover - he wasn't dropped, his wife had a baby..... COuldn't have Simon playing hard ball with his buddies
  11. Maybe that's why SG is optimistic we are doing numerous things right but execution is very poor When it doesn't work it looks a mess
  12. Scoring largely comes from turnover. If you turn the ball over teams try to go as quickly as they can because it is harder for the defence to organise. It relies on running and trust in your teammates to support the defensive matrix you are trying to implement. If there's a breakdown in that, either because communication is bad or one in the chain fails you get punished. Its why players like Fritsch kill teams. They dont provide pressure or tackles. And it looks like the way we look look now, hopeless. Like players haven't a clue what they are supposed to be doing. Its why heads get dropped because the 'system' keeps breaking down. Geelong are well drilled and are patient. They have a lot of trust in their team mates and are content to kick it all day sideways until an overlap or gap appears. When it does they all know what to do - spread and run. The kicker often kicks to space for their team mate to run onto - a much easier kick than the hail Mary's we try to pull off under pressure. Its all a failure of coaching to drill the players on what and where they are supposed to be. And failing to drop players that refuse to adhere to the new style.

None of the above had a fair run at it Thommo was almost BOG v the Pies on Kings Birthday and was dropped - that is a confidence builder When you choose to bring in players straight back from injury and ignore players that have performed you kill selection integrity - that's Goodwin
  14. Literally no one is saying kick the thing to an outnumbered contest
  15. jnrmac replied to Dingo's topic in Melbourne Demons
If he doesn't get selected just add it to the complete mismanagement files of Jordon, Bedford, Laurie and Tomlinson.
  16. IN the last example Melk kicks to Spargo who's in a one on one against a cats defender. So dumb
  17. Jesus Christ would struggle at Full forward with those stats
  18. It seemed that way. We seem to struggle against tall sides.
  19. Good post. We seem to get the ball in quickly - Goody refers to the i50s being respectable. They're also not with great purpose but just banged in there. But when we allow an outnumber it looks an insane strategy And when we have the three butchers in the midfield it looks even worse
  20. Our problems are more fundamental than paying a high price for a troubled fwd that may not be that great.
  21. You answered my question, thanks. McVee is a good story but no one else of any consequence has improved except TMac, possibly Chandler and up to this year RIvers Thats lamentable Backwards I would say Salem, Sparrow, Viney, Lever, May, Fritsch, Petty No mans land - Woewodin, Brown, Sestan, Fullarton, Verrall, Adams, McAdam, Laurie, Billings, Howes, Kentfield
  22. But when you play a game that allows 150 uncontested marks to the opposition that means our players are chasing tail all day. That is incredibly tiring Geelong denied us the ball and we were forced to defend all night. When we finally get the ball back we are knackered. We don't play well against teams that move the ball around. And to me it seems we are very reluctant to switch - something we did a lot in pre season. Switching means a lot of running to space to allow the kicker an outlet. On the rare occasion we switch the play kinda stops because we don't run hard enough to provide an outlet Our pressure rating has been terrible meaning we aren't forcing opp'n teams to make mistakes/turnovers. When we do get a t/o we are not capitalising on it because we have such an outnumbered forward line. Our coach refuses to change the setup despite the entire AFL industry calling him out. Maybe he's a genius and it will come good but I doubt it. He stubbornly sticks with the way he wants us to play regardless of what the opp'n does. A Geelong player even said that in an interview I heard. 'We knew if we controlled the ball an opening would come up because they don't pressure us' (I am paraphrasing but that was the essence of what he said
  23. If he is such a good developer of players Which players other than first year players have improved in the past 27 games or so?
  24. We really miss MIchael Hibberd a fast lockdown defender with dare and mongrel Goodwin kills careers. Hopeless at developing players Jordon, Bedford, Petty, Sparrow, Woewodin, Brown, Fullerton, howes, Adams, Laurie, van Rooyen There aren't 3 players that have shown growth and improvement over the past 27 games (1st yr players excluded). Not 3. That's where our problem is. And that is on the coach And our leaders? Well they can't lead thats for sure. Word salad answers, no actions About the only one of the senior players that can hold his head up is TMac
  25. Well done Simon. Great coaching FFS
