another person that doesn't know anything about football. Hawthorn is in their premiership window now, so greens age is almost irrelevant as he could be the difference between winning a flag next 2 -3 years or losing them. same goes for O Keefe.
-
well i dont think lynch or broadbent have great kicks but i agree that the others do. I just hope melbourne don't make the mistake of going for a midfield type with no foot skills. Debeour from W.A would be a complete waste of a pick, Blake from the cats has a better kick.

read my post, i said blease will be gone before us. Some people say that Schoenmakers is only 189cm(which is too small for a key position) and other say that he is 193cm, but he plays like a small anyway. He also has a slow load-up time with his kicks which means he is prone to being smothered etc. rhys O keefe seems okay, but nothing special. has a pretty nice kick but floats a bit too many. mitch robinson waddling running style and has a strange kicking action also. Mitch Banner seems fantastic and i'd love to get him but he is another in and under type

while the first 6 or so players should be great players, i'm a bit unsure about this draft in terms of where our picks are at pick 1- Watts (Good) pick 17 and pick 19 - options are zaharakis(good) Cornelius (too slow) Swift (injury concerns) Steven Hill(bad foot skills under pressure) Lisle( Bell-like awareness) Heyne (poor kicking action) keeping in mind that Johnston, sidebottom, hartlett, ziebell, vickery, hurley, yarren, trengove and blease will all be gone before us. looks like there is no draftee with the footskills we are looking for

Green, Sylvia, Johnson, Rivers & Jamar attract interest..
Freak replied to Tolstoys Nudge's topic in Melbourne Demons
nudge has avoided the question of his source twice now. thus, i dont believe it. it might come true, but it will be luck more than anything else -
there is not ruckman in the comp that is worth a top 20 draft pick from us. Ruckmen are over-rated.

i find myself agreeing alot with Yze_magic recently. Don't forget Farren Ray that was floated around. another player with poor awareness and shocking footskills. please people ur embarassing urselves.

Dees most likely destination for big Eagle

nudge, ur an amateur. personally, bring back powell doesnt know much either. you cant guarantee in a 22 game season that we will not win atleast 5 games. There are plenty of crap sides out there with richmond, essendon, fremantle, west coast and port adelaide to name a few. then throw in the likelihood that we could play some of these twice and we are far from assured picks 1 + 2. I think west coast will get the first 2 picks. -
sylvias coach also labelled him as the next riccuito. coaches just pull crap out every year to better the drafting chances of their players
-
can someone tell me whether priority picks can be traded? BEcause i would love to get pick 18, then we could have pick 17, 18 and 19. that would be sick! but i dont think you are allowed to trade away priority picks

i tend to agree and i am happy to be in that remaining 1%. I was the first one to pose serious question marks over miller and daniel bell..both of which i was shot down for, yet 12-24 months later everyone does a 180 and jumped on the anti miller/bell banwagon that i had been driving for so long. I was also the first one to doubt bate and jones' kicking ability. makes it hard to have a discussion board if no members are willing to listen to any negative discussion about its players..and after only winning 3 games in 08...questions have to be asked. Anyway, if we pick up Deboer we might as well just cross his name off the list as he has the worst foot skills going around.

even if thats with melbourne for the first 2 years, then back over to WA? a distinct possibilty considering he has stated that ideally he would want to stay home
-
watts just said on sen that his vertical leap wasnt as good as he hoped for, he got 70cm apparently. not too bad at all!
-
i don't acknowledge it because it's not true. rich is the best available. taking away the fact that we desperately need a key forward and the fact that he is from Western Australia he is the best player in the draft and most experts know this. no-one is disagreeing with it, but like most, the experts think we will go against the best available principle and pick on needs. i.e Watts At the end of the day if we didn't have any needs and both rich and watts were victorian, Watts would not even be in contention.
-
It's not about our needs, its about taking the best available. how many times does it have to be said. lets have a look at the 2001 draft, if we picked the best key position player back then we would have picked up Graham Polak and passed up on judd or hodge. in 2002, we would have picked up Tim Walsh(now delisted) instead of Jared Brennan, Wells or Goddard in 2003, we would have picked up Kepler Bradley or Fergus Watts instead of Cooney. in 2004, the best key forward potentially ever was picked up in 2005, josh kennedy or Beau Dowler would have been picked up instead of Marc Murphy in 2006, Gumbleton would have been picked up before Gibbs Hopefully this is enough evidence to suggest that you should always pick up the best available before taking a risk on Key position talent. Gumbleton, Dowler, Walsh, Bradley, and Kennedy all had expectations to be great players, like Jack Watts does now. what makes people think he is going to be any different to the above top 5 picks that have turned out to be nothing special?(and don't just tell us Watts' strengths because all of the players above were thought to have star potential at the time
-
how did we end up with 2 top 5 draft picks (Vickery and Watts)
-
larke medal pfft, dont put all ur eggs into that basket. morton got the larke medal last year when he wasn't the best player in Div 1 for the championships.
-
how did watts go in the tac cup when he had less quality players playing on him? answer: for a potential number 1 pick, he was useless..sidebottom dominates at that level like a top pick should

With Naitanui locked in at pick 1, how will the rest pan out.
Freak replied to Yze_Magic's topic in Melbourne Demons
nah its just my opinion. i just don't think a club would select a player with a top 10 pick based on needs when they think another player is better. If they believe 2 players are equal, than they will look at the needs of a club, but you don't pick on needs with a top 10 pick, let alone a top 5, let alone the top pick. COllingwood tried it by picking up fraser with pick 1 when they could have had pavlich, joel corey etc. -

nup, i still disagree. they thought lewis was the 7th best player. -

care for an example? i think you'll find that franklin (pick5), roughead(2) and lewis(7) were picked knowing on the fact that there were the top 3 players in their opinion. -

you don't pick on needs with top picks, end of story. And key positions do grow on trees, just great ones don't. There's a big difference. Many people are not sold on Watts as a great forward. -

yes and no. hawthorn are in the gf because of lance franklin, lets be honest. yes their midfield is tough and great but you can't credit them being in the grand final without mentioning buddy. -
i don't want cornelius..he is not tall enough to play key position at only 192cm. He is a clone of brad fisher, and while he aint bad I would rather take a stab on someone that could be better. Cornelius has also pubilcly stated that he isnt tall enough for a key position and consequently has worked on being more of an opportunistic goal scorer. As for suban, i like your thinking sylvinator. And i dont think melbourne are in a position to take a risk on injured players(i.e Swift). We need as much help we can get from this draft..not the time to be making any risks. just my opinion.
