Where do I sign?
-
Mark Jamar's career high possession count is 14. Never let the truth get in the way of a good story though.
-
I had the pleasure of meeting him earlier in the year, and he is one huge unit. Up close he looks much, much bigger than he does out on the field or on TV. I was surprised at how big he looked, even compared to some of the other bigger blokes. I reckon he's just a fairly generic defender, but one that will fit in nicely in to a well functioning backline given his size, speed and strength. Happy with his progress this year though.
-
Bell had a shocker this year and I doubt the footy world's view on him at present is anything other than a dime-a-dozen hack. Unlike many I'm still hopeful he might turn in to an okay player, but at the moment he's beyond worthless. If we got any offers at all I'd be surprised. A pick in the 30s would be lucky. Pick 4 is laughable.
-
I agree. I remember looking a few years ago and the difference between the 'youngest' and 'oldest' lists in terms of average age was about 1.5 years. It's completely irrelevant, not to mention misleading. It's the weighting of your 'best 22' in terms of age and experience groups that provides a much more interesting and useful statistic IMO. Nobody seems to ever really be bothered analysing this though.
-
Instead of playing him at all next year, I think we should donate him to science to figure out how a freak of nature like this is even possible, and how we make more like him. To match his height, he's got incredible athleticism and ridiculous intelligence. Add that to his blondish good looks and he may very well be the perfect Human male. In all seriousness, he's got to be one of the most exciting things to come out of this year. His combination of brains, size and athleticism should serve him very well in the coming years once his skills develop and he understands the game better. I can't wait.

How do threads like this 'ruin' anything? Yes Y_M generally has his head up his own backside, but some of these trades mentioned are plausible and make for some interesting hypothetical scenarios IMO.
-
Yes, and yes.
-
Could very well be something, but he was our last draft pick and showed little throughout the year. The most likely outcome is that he'll be nothing. I reckon only the biggest of blue sky junkies would be excited about this prospect at this stage. He's a medium sized running defender, apparently.
-
I'd do all of those trades. It's a pity the clubs at the other end wouldn't.
-
I'm stunned he was given two. I would've thought one would have been more appropriate.
-
By all reports he's a quality bloke that had all the right attributes in terms of attitude and work ethic, but fell short where it counted. Best of luck to him for his future endeavours.
-
It's because he was playing like crap at Sandy, and in the end was overtaken by the rookie Spencer. All the running power in the world doesn't count for squat if you don't work hard and don't know how to apply your skills. If he doesn't show anything at all again next year, the club will be faced with a real dilemma. Delist him and pay out the third year, or have him waste a spot on the list for a year?
-
What are you talking about? Ferguson was one pre-season in the gym away from being a star (for about 4 seasons in a row)
-
This may well go down as the worst list management decision of all time. I'm not that concerned about the draft pick we coughed up, but the fact that he got a three year deal is laughable.
-
You've gotta love people's ridiculously over-inflated views of what players get paid. If Bell was on even a third of that I'd be surprised. And I highly doubt Green has taken a pay cut. Actually, I think it'd be utter lunacy if he did.

Barracking for Dorks or Pussies on Saturday?
Nasher replied to maximum bob's topic in Melbourne Demons
Watching the Dees this year pretty much drained me of any interest in footy for the short term. I'm on end of season break already, don't know if I'll even bother to watch. -
I don't think it's his vision that is bad, more the fact that he takes forever to decide what to do with the ball and therefore gets caught with it. The fact that the whole team was utterly shit this year just exacerbates that. What's better, turning it over because there's no decent options so you fail to choose one and get caught, or turning it over because there's no good options so you choose a bad one? He's strong, quick, and is reasonable by foot. I know I'm going to be accused of rose coloured glasses, but I still believe.

*shrugs* I actually like reading them too. I was just warning another member who clearly isn't used to Nudge's posts not to take them as gospel.
-
Ahh, you're a Demonland Offseason virgin. Nudge has a wild imagination; he is the king of posting heaps and heaps of trade rumours that almost sound plausible but almost never turn out to be true. His posts should be read as fiction only.
-
Although I totally agree with your real point, I reckon Shannon Byrnes looks crap, even when playing for Geelong.
-
Ricky who? Kind of the forgotten man. First season was a beaute, but that seems like such a long time ago now. I think it's fair to say his second one was forgettable. I'm still a fan.
-
Bate is making me extremely nervous. He still looks to me like he might go either way -- another wasted first rounder, or an elite player. If he can bridge the gulf between his best and worst (preferrably towards the "best" end) I'll be very happy. He's one I'm pinning more hope on than others though.
-
Agreed Redleg, I doubt he'll go anywhere. I really only posted this thread because I wanted to make the "O'Keefe type player" gag to be honest.
-
He's gone from a stinker to middle of the road. I'd still move him on. IMO we've been too quick in the past to sign crap players on for longer than needed on the back of a few good games at the end of their contract.
