Was anyone really that surprised? I was expecting us to lose by more than 100 points. I would've been surprised if the game hadn't started like that.

I was under the impression it was "Ma-rick", and that he was no relation to the Maric ("Eevarn Ma-ritch") for Adelaide. I'm not certain of that though. All the things he did wrong today were skills related -- lousy kicks and fumbles -- which are his supposed strengths, so I'd put it down completely to nerves of an inexperienced young player. Deserves another hitout.

Out: Dunn (,Bate) In: Grimes (,Newton) I've never seen a player hear footsteps like Dunn does. He just is not an AFL grade player IMO. Does some nice things now and then but IMO offers absolutely nothing we couldn't get from Grimes. Vanlo -- if you want an example, I think it was in the first or second quarter -- spilled a sitter of a mark on the wing and it went out of bounds as a Geelong player was bearing down. It was incredibly painful to watch. I'd consider the second change (Newton for Bate) as well, but I'm a bit more nervous about it. I don't think Newton, even after 5 goals at Casey, has magically redeemed himself as a player. His woeful kicking for goal seems to me to be a confidence thing, and that's one thing he can work on at a lower level. Newton's worst is also worse than Bate's worst, which is a significant risk. That said, 5 goals in the VFL is a good return and there's no better way to push for selection. I saw the Casey game on TV and don't think Bell or Wonaeamirri did themselves any favours in pushing for selection. McNamara did his own case no harm, but where would he play, and whose spot does he take? I don't think he offers anything that is currently missing from our side. The only other player beyond Grimes and Newton I'd consider at this stage is Cheney, but for whom? Bartram played a good game today. Bennell? Maric had an ordinary day out, but most of his mistakes seemed to be simply due to rushing. I hope he gets another week (at least) to adjust to the pace of the game and show his true wares.

If I see Dunn poo his pants once more when going for a mark or a hard ball I reckon I'll spew. Maric had a shocker too, but I'm prepared for patience there. Bruce as a leader just has to kick those gettable goals. Other than that I was reasonably happy with the effort of the majority of players.

You can just edit it whenever you feel like it, that's what a wiki is, by definition. Wikipedia is fairly heavily moderated, and articles 'stub' articles (i.e. incomplete articles, articles with no citations etc) are marked as such. Articles that contain nonsense are either usually edited by more well-meaning contributors, or by Wikipedia staff pretty quickly. You'd never treat Wikipedia as gospel because you never know who's contributed what, however the concept in my mind works pretty well, and there is an absolute wealth of accurate information on there about a massive range of topics.

I agree classy. Asking an umpire to stick to the line he indicates is requiring too much of the umpires. However, expecting players to be able to predict where the umpire is going to end up despite the fact that not even the ump knows where he's going to end up? Perfectly reasonable! What a crock.

Exactly. What a joke. At least he wasn't rubbed out, but sheesh.

What should a team expect from its highest paid player?

Very nearly coffeed on my screen then. Totally agree with your other post as well. -
The very best you'd get from the AFL boss is "I'll forward this on to the appropriate department", but I suspect you'd just get no answer. It's not his job to deal with any and every gripe people have. There's a chain of command for a reason.

People Who Live In Glass Houses Should Not Throw Stones
Nasher replied to typical demons's topic in Melbourne Demons
Did you read the same OP as I did? This guy is clearly here to stir the pot. He's invited the treatment he has gotten so far. I'll talk footy with any opposition supporter who's genuine -- DaVe86 was a breath of fresh air around here the other week. That isn't what this thread's about. I agree with this part of your post. -
He seems to have also eradicated that awful grab the ball, kick it about 50 metres in the air and 10 metres forwards from his game too, which really frustrated me. He's coming along very, very nicely. I was surprised he only got 16 touches on the weekend too. He must've made every one count, because I definitely noticed him and thought he was one of our better players.
-
Who wouldn't? He's one of the best players in the competition. Additionally, he's playing for a side that is an embarressment to the competition, on and off the field. Don't know that I'd sell the farm to get him though, and landing him would require doing so if he wasn't walking. If we were pushing for a flag now I would, but as we're not, and not even close to it, I think it would only be a hinderance to our development.

This is so obviously crap that I'm going to close the thread. I don't think the BigFooty poster deserves the pleasure of having his rumour spread this far personally.
-
It's worthy of a chuckle. I reckon the Austin Woneamirri (sic) = Austin Woneamirri (sic) comparison is a bit off though.
-
Agree with that. I'm still under no illusion that we're any good, but Richmond are positively awful. I haven't seen a team with such poor skills since.... well, us.
-
At worst I'd expect Warnock to get a reprimand, but I expect him to get off. Surely nothing in it. The only candidates for being dropped this week IMO are Bate and Bartram. I think Bate has enough credits to hold out being dropped for one more week, and Bartram was named in the best for some reason, so I doubt he's out either. For that reason, just the one forced change, McDonald for Green. If McDonald's not fit, one of Maric or Grimes to come in. Maric and Grimes have both done enough for selection, but I believe they'll both play another week at Casey and continue to bust the door down for selection.

I was thinking that after the game, but wasn't sure if I had my rose coloured glasses on after the win. He was exceptional today, although I don't think a better side would've allowed him so much latitude.
-
Personally, I'm just delighted that spot #26 on our list isn't completely going to waste like I thought it was leading up to this season. He still has a massive way to go to being any good in my eyes, but at least we've seen that there's something to work with.
-
At the moment I believe he is the best player on our list and deserved to be part of the win, especially since he was one of those that got him going after the hopeless start. Disappointing that he's going to be out for a bit. I wish him a speedy recovery.

85 people reading this topic. I doubt there has ever been this much interest in a Casey reserves game.
-
I imagine it also had a lot to do with the coaching staff wanting to exploit his engine -- he can run all day. As it turns out he's not much of a midfielder though.

I wasted a bit of time getting annoyed about Dwayne when he first appeared on Fox Footy. I quickly worked out that he is worst commentator in the business and I'm yet to hear anything that makes me think otherwise since. Now whenever I'm forced to endure his commentary, I simply bear this in mind any time he says anything, and all my annoyance disappears.

McLean laid 8 tackles today, far and away more than anyone else on the field on either side. There is absolutely no chance in the world he will be dropped on the back of that. He's been under the pump on this site lately, but I don't care what anyone thinks; 8 tackles is the epitome of midfield pressure.

There are places I can go to watch, which I often do, but I also sometimes (like this weekend) visit the inlaws, and there's no foxtel within cooee, including the only pub in town. Really sucks.
