I never cease to be amazed at how many people have their Collingwood blinkers on when assessing Buckley as a player.

What's the point of trading a fourth round pick? We'd be better off with the player in this case. Not trading him buys us time to negotiate terms with him. If we can't, and lose him to Carlton in the PSD, we're no worse off than if we'd traded him for a useless fourth round pick. And frankly, the fact that we've only offered him one year (if any of this is at all true), and this late in the piece, suggests that the decision to keep him was very borderline anyway. Reading between the lines, I doubt our FD would worry too much if he walked. I certainly wouldn't.

That would explain the season just gone by. :D

BBP, Richmond did the same thing last year -- took Dave Gourdis with PSD pick 1. The only listed AFL player taken in last year's PSD was Scott Welsh and he went at pick 4. Hardly a big fish. It wouldn't surprise me if there were zero this year. Welcome to the modern day Pre-Season Draft. Now that uncontracted, listed players can nominate for the National Draft, the PSD has become completely pointless in my opinion.

He isn't better than Miller. He is a first rate hack who has now failed miserably at two clubs. Definite pass here.

It's always pretty funny when people write a very lengthy response to a post from a year and a half ago, about how wrong it was.
-
I know they would have to delist someone to give him a spot on the senior list. I even said that in my post. To answer your question, if this guy is better than the existing player, then yes, I believe they will drop the existing player like a hot cake if necessary. But first they'll try the option where they don't have to drop anyone.
-
If Geelong can choose whether to offer him a spot on the rookie list or a spot on the senior list, then of course their first choice is going to be the rookie list. It means he'll come much cheaper, they don't have to spend a draft pick in the national draft to get him, and they don't have to bother figuring out who to delist to get him on the list. He'll knock back their offer for a spot on the rookie list, then they'll offer him a spot on the senior list. It's just negotiations. I strongly doubt he'll nominate for the ND.

The PSD draft comes before the Rookie Draft. And by that logic, you'd prefer Jericho over a kid like Stefan Martin. I know which I'd prefer.

I'm going to upgrade the forum software over the next two days, which apparently has an improved registration process that blocks this stuff (I'd do it sooner, except I'm too damn busy with work). It's well overdue anyway. If that doesn't work, I'll look at instigating a 'wait' period, or perhaps a system whereby your first forum post has to be moderator approved, and once that's approved then you can post what you like. We've also got two new mods coming on board too. So sorry folks, this problem will be sorted. And believe me, it's annoying us as staff just as much as it is for the readers.

Your joke detector is clearly broken. And I believe Whispering_Jack is actually a lawyer, but don't hold that against him.

Nah, it was that one. We moved straight from Aimoo (the setup in that snapshot) to this setup at the end of '05. I joined Demonland and Demonology at the same time in 2003. Just on the archive, checkout some of the 'political' threads there. Jeez Fan (then Deefan) was an agro bugger back then! :D

It's a tad annoying that you come on this site and make smart comments on issues that you clearly don't understand as a non-supporter of the club. Not the first time you've done it. Anyway, end rant. Dappa's already covered why this is odd, but I'll go over it anyway. Short story is Hughes already spent two injury plagued years on our rookie list in 05/06 and then after showing stuff all and being delisted, spent 07 on the Sandringham list not getting on the park due to injury. To me, and probably most others around here, having him train with us (presumably with a view to monitor him for draft purposes) would be flogging a horse that well and truly died about three years ago.

Anyone still think Nudge isn't full of faeces?
-
I might just go cry in to pick #1. Seriously, could you guys be any more melodramatic? I don't get why it's such a big deal that we didn't pick up a couple of B grade players (if they were 'A' grade they wouldn't be 'seeking opportunities elsewhere'). I think 'no result' isn't a terrible thing for us by any means. I am disappointed that there wasn't any takers for a couple of the hacks that were inquired about like CJ though.

That's not that high a salary really, for a 6th(?) year player. Personally, I'd accept any trade that got this bloke away from our club, even if it meant paying a large chunk of his salary.
-
That says it all really. I feel pretty bad for him given his upbringing. I don't think he ever really had a shot at a sensible life. At the same time he's done everything he can to spectacularly blow an opportunity most of us would kill for. So ends what has been an 'interesting' career.
-
BBP was referring to Y_M's Davey rumour. As for Green, I find him walking in to the PSD unlikely. Either we'll find a club who agrees to his terms and we'll trade him, and if that doesn't happen I think he'll settle for what's on offer.
-
If that's true then I'd thank Freo for keeping some sanity in this whole process.
-
It was on the Ten late news last night too. My first reaction is that it's absolutely pathetic if true. Trades are transactions between two clubs. It should remain so. IMO the integrity of trade week is compromised if the AFL start interfering.
-
Thanks Oracle, a good read as always. As for Green, I'm both happy to keep him and happy to trade him for the right price. Don't know that I'd bother for anything less than a first rounder though. That said, seeing him in a Collingwood jumper would make me sick.

It's a little bit sad when our ghost guernsey gets more comments than most of the other players on our list!

Brent Prismall Chooses Essendon - or does he?
Nasher replied to Demon_Tingles's topic in Melbourne Demons
Putting aside your obvious bias, would you want to play for us? Give me a single good reason why you would choose this club over ANY of the others if you had the choice? -
Pick 51 for Santana? You beaute, that guy can really play! *air guitars vigorously* Oh wait, you mean Setanta? Ugh. Pass.
