I hear what you're saying Macca... but from what i've heard a lot of recruiting is based on athletiic ability and has nothing to do with football.. You can argue all day about what is more important - recruiting or development, the simple fact is our list is so far behind the rest of the competition. You'd think it would be obvious to the people in charge - and this is why I'll give Neeld time to develop the list as those Key stats you point out Macca are a KPI of Neeld Everyone has their own opinions on footy - I'd like to see us lose the soft tag and build a Swans type culture - It won't happen overnight....... and unfortunetly it will be us supporters who suffer before the good times -

The key fundemntal to recruiting for the MFC at the time of BP was athletes not footballers. Football went a different direction to what BP, DB wanted - they lost their jobs - there is not much to debat really. Football in 2013 is about winning the contested footy - lets hope our current recruiters can keep up with where footy is going -
My 2 cents of the game - It was very hot, conditions were extreme not really sure how much you can take from the game Our press was beaten by the saints a few times easily which I think the conditions had a lot to do with. Not a lot of pushing back hard from the Dees Saints compusure and ball use was much better as the game went on. Took their opportunities in the 2nd the rest of the game was pretty much break even, which wasn't a bad result for us. There is a lot of development left in this side... not all the doom and gloom i've been reading on this thread......

I was hungover I wish I never went
-
Yes he did play - can't say I paid much attention to his game, but I don't think he go a lot of it Tough day to play
-
Agree 100% - We didn't lose on Sat because of the umpires please understand that before you read my comments The umpiring interpritation for the current game is turning it in to netball - I guess the AFL wants more free flowing footy and less body use
-
Like Sellar this bloke will be handy if he can play well - I also think Jetta could be handy down back
-
Sellar 5 - wow
-
Interesting comments - Dawes took a juggling mark and hit up Howe on the lead in game 1 on the weekend - fair to say it's more then I've seen Martin do over his time at the Dees. Also his contest 1 v 3 which resulted in Sylvia offloading the ball to Howe wasn't bad either. Some people are not easily impressed I assume
-
I think your analysis of our first hitouts are spot on - still you're talking about practice (haha couldn't help myself)
-
Agreed - but if you look at Brisbane compared to the us the situationa are a lot different. Brisbane have a much more settled side and would probably know their best 22. I'd say the Dees wouldn't know who our best 22 are.... So in response to your statement Jumbo I think you'll see the Dees experimenting a lot until round 1 - is this a good thing??? I don't know but it is hard to judge after 1 (well 2 games but overall one) practice match PS That Allen Iverson clip is an NBA classic - and he was a gun
-
harsh - but I see your point Jumbo - a lot of same old from those 2
-
Agree P Man We shouldn't be too harsh off 1 practice match - I hope he can have a solid season.... On another highly criticised top pick - J Watts looks cherry ripe, I really do hope this bloke can shove it up a few this season A Question for you boys and girls - I know we lost Game 1 but i was happy to see Kent??? (I think it was him too many new blokes haha) go back and snag that goal even if we didn't win. I celebrated and said well done son What are your thoughts - I know J Watts had a crack at him for not passing for the 9 ptr but I thought he showed good compousre (especially after stuffing up his first shot)
-
Hard to not love the new boys - and Jimmy is all class If this bloke can win his own balll (on top of his beautiful ball use) we will have something very special
-
I am not going to give up on Pedo yet - He took a nice grab in the 2nd game (which was disallowed due to Davey striking Morris - i think it was??) Delivery to him was pretty average and first game in new colours - he needs time to work it all out I know I am re-opening old wounds but I was most disappointed with Sylvia - could put it down to first game back as well but only did one nice thing (pass to Howe in game 1)- stuggled to finish opportunities and seems to lack class. I won't give up on him just yet but at 27ish you could almost say a wasted talent

Under-rated post - very good
-
Wow - that is impressive Just wanted to post my love for this kid - I haven't been this impressed for a long time....
-
Helps if you can win the contested ball.......... we will struggle again in 2013 - boys are too young... Expect to be beaten in the possession count - we need to convert opportunities - hopefully a strong forward line will help us win games
-
Not fussed about resluts - clearly weaker side v the Tigers 4th qtr (2nd half v tigers) less upmiring involvement - liked it Boys 1st game up - so real positiives from the new boys. Long way to go, but I am still looking forward to the real stuff.... I will throw some random obervations out there McKenzie great off ball - terrible with ball Sylvia - 1 dimensional - hope he can prove me wrong Apart from that hard to take much else from the game - if you don't have love for J Hogan you are not human...
-
On a side note off my criticism of umpiring - like the look of Byrnes in the first game and N Jones looks good coming in to 2013
-
Haha yes I am blaming the umpires for the scores - i thought this was a discussion about the game - My observatoin is the umpires feel they need to get involved in the game and pay every small indescretion Obviously you rate over officiating
-
plus on top of that they are rookie umpiers so there were some poor decisions i thought - no harm done as it's fake footy And why waste the time with the score review???
-
It's frustrating when they pay free kicks they don't need to pay - maybe i've been listening to Sam Newman too long It's about the players not the umpires
