There is another page on the AFL site that says that the lists provided are provisional. The AFL has to verify the Total Player Payments of each club to enable the rookie calculation to be made. Also, looking at the other clubs, the seems to be no rhyme or reason as to the number of rookies that they seem to be allowed.

It seems that you have to just about be a Rhode's Scholar to understand the rookie requirements. With two veterans on our list and us comitting to paying 92.5% of the salary cap, it depends on whether or not we need to put Robbo and Junior inside, or is that outside, the list. It makes no difference to us as the money we pay them is the same, but if we need to claim the rebate ( 50% from the first, and 33% from the second, I think ) to technically get within the 92.5% of the salary cap, we lose a rookie spot for each veteran that is inside, or outside, the list. This is why the clubs had to put in the list lodgement 3 before the rookie draft so that the calculation of the number of rookies that they could select could be made. Does anybody know what the final prognostication was as regards the number of possible rookies that we can select? Wasn't the last list lodgement yeaterday?

The only thing that the council are saying is that the original proposal called for us to get the deed to $500k worth of real estate. The council has changed that to kicking in an extra $500k to the pavilion upgrade, which we would have previously had to find ourselves. It is a wash.

I think you'll find that we are in complete agreement, Rhino. PJ does not have the attributes to be a #1 ruckman, however, he does have serious football gifts and is well worth his place in the side as a second ruck/midfielder. Jamar and Meeson are VFL material and Spencer, although raw and a year or so away, has surpassed them both. We will have to put up with Jamar as first ruck next year, which is a worry.

Discount Spencer at your peril; he has all the attributes to the goods. Jamar and Meeson are servicable at best and will need to really show something to survive; PJ is a very good second ruck and we need somebody to step up as a tap ruckman - my bet is Spencer.

I don't think the AFL will object. It will further increase the publicity and the anticipation for the event. Their only proviso should be that it is referred to as the NAB National Draft at all times.

Martin is being groomed as a tall defender to combat the Franklin like skyscrapers that look like populating forward lines in our current stage of evolution; Spencer has big raps on him as a ruckman/midfielder. Martin played in the ruck a few times at Sandy owing to him being the tallest option available; this has led to a lot of pundits describing him as a ruckman. They seem to not notice that he played in a key defence position any time Jamar/PJ/Spencer was available. Martin to solidify a key defensive position. Spencer to be promoted to replace Jamar.

That's because the VFL are not allowed to play any AFL listed players in representative matches. Most VFL sides have 10-15 AFL listed players playing in any given round thus increasing the standard dramatically.

GC are only allowed to preselect 12 17 year olds next year; clubs will also not be allowed to draft 17 year olds. Any player who is eligable to go into this years draft will be over 17 next year and beyond GC's grasp.

In 2009, GC17 have the capicity to sign 12 players born from January to April 1992. This means that the 2010 draft is a real bust; the 2009 draft is still reasonably OK.
