Its not meant as a Lyon Bash.. but I am ) and not alone it seems ) mystified as to the almost embarassing announcement of a new CEO on this Show.. Garryy heads it up.. May I be forgiven that he might JUMP at the opportunity to participate in something positive about the club ?? I dont think anyone would have accused him of being parochial, if anything probably most glad he could enthuse about something for a change !! Christ...if thats happy Id hate to see morose !! Not accusing anyone...but Bambi did all but die on that show !!

glad it wasnt just me.. thought it odd , at best and beligerent at worst!! Thats it WJ...given the amount of imbalanced attention over recent times.. and all the hooha about a "rudderless" club..in "crisis" etc etc... You /I might be forgiven for thinking that a little more might be given the announcement !! I was obviously naieve thinkig that GL might have taken the opportunity to give his beloved Dees a boost up !! Silly Me !!

This isnt intended as some clandestine effort to have a go at a past player. Let me state that from the get go. Did anyone else find it a bit strange that very little was made of a new CEO at Melbourne ?? Whilst I wouldnt have expected balloons and dancing girls, given the predisposition on much of the media to already have a size 12 boot raised ready to kick good ol' Melbourne that so little was made of such an important announcement. Had Eddie been there I could have imagined a more throrough and appropriate news item covering this event. Especially given the Man's ( PM ) status and background. I must confess that the paltry effort by Lyon dismayed me. There was bugger all enthusiam( bordeing on disdain ) in it , almost a throw-away !! I ackowledge that the start of season is upon us and a bigger entity than one club , but honestly you would have thought GL might have used his position on show to give it a bit of a Rev up... Is this indicative of the new past-players action group because it might need to liven up just a tad !! I must confess I dont watch it all that often...and with that degree of balance I probably wont. ....or maybe its just me.. But I thought it worthy of a better treatment !!

But , as silly as this sounds, Im almost as interested in the club's direction as it s on field perormance this year. All we've had for many years is the same ol same ol... The China thing is brave...needs a lot of time though..thats ok.. but much else needs to be done.. thats true.. I think the jist is that for years and years as a club we've always taken a backward semi -apologists step when it comes to describing our ilk. Here McNamee is turning that on its arse and saying.. "Yeah...you bet were different..WE"RE MELBOURNE !!" I mean no one suspects for a moment that we all really do drive Landies etc., or that we ALL go skiing.. all that we all do this or that!! I think the point he might be that instead of denying that we have any of this etc.. no matter how 'stereotypical' in drivel it is..is to turn it around and throw it back as " Yeah Buddy..what of it !!" To use a cricket analogy we're ( MFC ) going to change from backfoot to frontfoot..We're going on the attack. Its going to be very interesting where this attitutude might take us. All the other things are true..but on-field success might not come for a while..being realistic. However much can be done whilst that develops. Ive been rather scathngly critical of the club with its efforts so far to drive the 150 aspect.. Im very interested to see what Mac ( even as a paul come lately ) does here. I think he's going to be rather different from what were used to...................t-f-f-t !!!!

GOF... how do YOU know how long things took to get to a point of 'breakdown" If you have insdie info..please illuminate. It only takes the slightest differing in direction ( objectives ) and eventually a rift occurs.. It wouldnt have been obiosu to anyone ..until th epaths become distinclty different. Its very easy to judge in hindsight isn it ... P!ss easy !! As an "IDEAL" yes, it migh thave been better if some things never happened. But "thigs' often have a hbit of indeed happening.. Its what you do when they occur that separates some from others. I dont think particularly PG is any golden child..I have some issues with a few things about the MFC. What I suggested was that give credit where its due. The wolves of the 4th estate would have been circling the MFC they must have salivated at the prospect of blood.. and some nice juicy stories to go.. with even Juicier headlines to boot !! Try as they did ( the media) no such haemoraging happened. We awake today with , I think somethig of a coup , having appointed Paul Mac to the helm. The ship sails on.. it hit no rocks. Are there blue sky days ahead.. well; maybe some but I concede there are some big waves and swells to contend with. I sense agreement that most likely Steve had to go ?? Might it been more appropriate at some early juncture.. maybe.. But who knows what constraints existed about this ? Maybe it wasnt quite so simple as to suggest ... 'mate..thers a door over there with your name on it !!" Little things like contracts etc.. maybe this WAS the earliest a split could be effected. So its not good enough to learn from mistakes ?? lol.. what rot !! Who doesn take mistakes.?? Easy.......if you care to look beyond the simplistic . Not everything in life works according to predetermined plans and expectations. I think its a fair appreciation ( from external vantage point ) that somewhere , at some point a change of heart, clash , failure ...WHATEVER occured..What was.. suddenly wasn't. Now when such things occur.. you have choices.. You can do nothing.... or you can do SOMETHING. Im going to suggest that an impasse of sorts had been arrived at..and that something indeed needed to happen. For the betterment of the club going forward it was obviously decided ( in some sort of mutual fashion...no obvious knives ) that Harris would move on and the MFC seek a new Helmsman . Now lets look at how this was handled...There were no nasty headlines.. with one party calling names of the other.. NO.. it al lhappened in a civil fashion.. That deserves applause !! Now some will immediately retort with ..why was he reappointed in first place ? I can only imagine that at that time he ( Harris ) was a fair choice by concensus...but something changed !! Now this is the sign of a realistic and competent management of a situation. What was..now ..wasn't.. and so the status quo now lopsided in some fashion needed addressing. s they say...sometimes sh!t happens...and when it does you need to do something about it. Do you sit around and sulk over what went wrong.. or bad.. or this or that.. do yo run around like headless chooks.. or do you adopt a concerted and steady approach and get the job done ? You get the job done !! The JOB was DONE !! Do enlighten me Mo64 how else ought it have been handled ??? Don tsecond guess about why harris and MFC needed to part ways.. just that they did..and if so ..how else migh [censored] have been done ?? For mine it was done very well.. everyone was pretty much told ( as prudent as required ) what was going on. We were told roughly the schedule of the process to appoint new. The process was known.. ..and it happened. So remind me agian....what exactly is wrong in all this ??

Im not absolutely clear on what some folk want !! At good ol' Melbourne we've been in "Crisis" - been falling apart at the seams etc ( well if you believe the press etc ) but undeniably we've had a fair share of difficulties that in some past years would have had blood spilt at the junction oval amid coups and embattlements. We've had the handling of the removal of one coach..the appointment of another; the removal of one CEO and the appontment of another...all of this done without blood or animosity ( well none shown.. and that in itself is an accomplishment ) Folks...all that takes a bit of craft !! I applaud PG for all that. credit where credit's due !!

quite an interesting read isnt it. I think we'll finally see a lot more effort made to raise the profile of the club now. You get the impression he really wanted he job. He strikes me as a lateral thinker and someone who doesnt confine their efforts to things you find only in boxes

Garry can command attention...there's no doubt. that in itself does nothing. If he wants to command ( or aid it ) the destiny of Melbourne...he can stick his mitt up next elections. I for one hope he does...otherwise anything he says..does is essentially impotent. just reality !!

while we're at it.. congratulations and thankyou to the board and interviewing panel for their accomplished landing of an obviously well credentialed sports administrator. To those that suggest nothing is done at Melbourne.. I think something just did !!

Fev was ALWAYS going to play.. this IS Carlton after all. If anything Melb is currently leading the way re team sanctions. I suppose its good to be leading something !! lol What this shows is actually that Carlton isnt as confident of itself as it makes out. B)

I think this is a reasonable outlook also. Its very easy to say nothing ever changes.. but it is. just slowly !! Yep we got buggered around wtih Bubbledome; wasnt our fault..and nothing we could do. yes it sucks.. but hey. We havent fallen apart at the seems..we've gone quietly about fixing what we can..its probably the QUITENESS that disconcerns some as there is no brass bands anf ballyhoo to get all gung ho about. Right this very moment my only beef is that MFC have dropped the 150 a bit and let theAFL run with it.. lets see what unfolds
