BBP...you need to read between the lines of the Jonno deal. Basically Bailey ( my view only ) wanted rid of trapper. he sees who's at all interested. Brisbane is.. but not that much they'd lose a player and a pick.. especially as they want to retain brennan. They see trapper worth a punt at a pick only. THATS ALL WE WERE EVER GOING TO GET !! I dont know about some of you but it has always irked me that we dont try to position ourselves better in the market place. We are a unique brand in this land..and we all but put it in the cupboard. Team melbourne is a good start, Melbourne 150 is good too. The China connection.. great lateral thinking. Then we come down to good ol brand advertising of our club. For me there have been some namby pamby efforts.. some downright comical ( in amatuerishness ) and one that was even by myleft of centre standards...a little out there...and I think its still there having never hit home !! lol. Is 2008 the year we fianlly get some sort of ballsy effort at branding our team. We are after all DEMONS !! you know...that ferocious thingy from hell !! Some past advertising would have us the Bambis or something equally as nuetered. Cant we have some Fire and Brinsmstone imagery with flashes of hard playing Demons displaying flair and daring.. maybe set to Doors "come on baby light my fire " or something..cant we please.. or everyday weekday people morphing into full on Demon supporters to the tune of "Devil Inside " The chance to sexy it up and give some street cred is there...why dont we do it ?

In all honesty no one is really going to care what he says...its just the constant imagery of the MFc we want in 2008

I agree that the reason matters not...only the desire to move on. Like much in life... we ,I suggest, will see a compromise type solution. Somewhere between where it is now and true free agency , which whilst probably entitled to ( by a player ) w ould unravel everything. Its murky isnt it ..lol

Now this cuts to the core of the issue.. Who is entitled to own the destiny of a player ?? Can sport usurp the common law right of self determination within the workplace ? This very murky ground. No matter what you want to or indeed do insert into a contract it cant over-rule any inalienable right that occurs at a superior level of law. I feel Sport ( and in particular AFL ) is about to be sorely tested on this. A player is only an assett in the true sense in so far as he allows the club the use of his talent, beyond that it stops. So he's not a common assett in the normal sense.. he's a special assett by agreement. if you hire a piece of plant...its an asset to your business in the course of whatever it is you do but its ownership remains with whoever hired it to you. I see players very much like this.. except in this instance the Plant and Leasor are the same !!

to me thwere are basically two types of midfielders...those that go in and get the ball..and those to whom its given to to deliver forward..thats Greeny's role I think.. to recieve and move. . No one really plays on the wing or flank so much any more...players just gravitate there as the bal ldoes its "thing ".

I wouldnt say negligible. ...just not what it was. Id prefer someone EARN the captaincy...not just have it because Neeta's getting on. let him put it to his minions.. "who amongst you doth covet the mantel, who amongst you shall rise to meet the honour, expectations and delivery ? " it will sort itself out. I can see no point double fisting this position. Let Neeta be it and hand it over to the annointed..who wil carve out his own history. Termination date ? end of season 2008... simple as that.

he's an outside midfielder.. ( with plenty of courage ). he needs some space. He plays the link man to perfection..leave him there.

His halycon days are definitely behind him. But he can provide I must admit enormous motivational and mentorship like qualities. no one is saying he was/is the comensurate footballer. But what he has we sorely miss. his game would evolve with more time.. better play options up forward and a new coaching regime. His injuries have prevented him obviously from progressing. Love to see him back on the park !!

well Old...you'll certainly strike a few nerves here ..lol.. but am sure you'l expect that. I cant totally disagree with al lof that. But it now comes to a timing issue. it might have made sense to announce it beofr ethe last game this season and so reap the deserved accolades. I coulndt agree more that we have at times become far to Neeta-centric in going forward. The predictability made defending tad easier for the opposition i feel. when he was out the forward thrusts were more varied , just for the moment very unploished and unpracticed it loked. these inprove with time and mid week efforts of course. Im going to suggest there may be actually one last thing for him to do and thats the role of a true leader: TRANSITION !! I have no doubt this is his swansong year. As the boys all look up to its now to him that the job of handing over will fall....to whomever is annointed. Maybe he just sets the scene without any one person in particular but lays the road etc. I would hope he would still play most of the coming season. History suggests he wont; he's but one more serious injury from calling it a day. I agree a new look and style is needed and he ought to retire but i'm ok if he has a crack next year. He may find that the preseason actually does either of two things.. does wonders..or cements his course in cement. Keep in mind we often dont do things logically at Melbourne

I rate him too.. highly. would be marvellous to see the three Amigos ( McLean, Moloney and Jones ) do some damage in the name of the Red and Blue !!!! the oppositions wont know which way to look or go !! ( but Im biased too )

I have no problem with him coming back slowly...if he can come back. If good and prudent management can get him back on the track oand on the turf in a manner where he can continue to contribute in his wonderful way.. "halelujah " my concern is he may not be able to overcome his OP etc. basically rendering him a non-starter. If so its only reasonable to assume he wont be playing footy...anywhere. if there's a god after the judas debacle, then we deserve Beamer back
