hmm..31508...damn close to my prediction of 31500...well done Dees !!!!

Being realistic, other than a 5 minute Ra-Ra what does winning actually achieve for us at present ? We need to learn how to implement the process of playing good footy 4 quasrters week in week out, not some 'by the seat of your pants' faux achievement in defeating a team who's just as likely to gift us the game anyway. Though stirring the come from behind wins again Freo and Brisbane last year whilst pleasing in a fashion showed that we really have not got any closer to 'getting our act together" by carrying on in this mode and cementing those efforts. We're still a hodge podge of a train wreck at present. But honestly...theres no use ignoring the elephant in the corner, we simply cant afford to win.
-
We arent actually that good to enable us to dictate any real outcome this or following weeks , not unless a great improvement is around the corner. Make no mistake.. who wins this game is up to the Eagles, if you get my drift
-
NO, but its the last fair and even one for quite some time. Any team bottoming out in the next 5 years is in serious poo. We cant take on board forever an attitude that we are perenialy bolstering our stocks, continually topping up or getting this kpp of that. At some point in time you actually have to gel and start playing winning footy. For mine thats next year. We need to start climbing ...next year. We cant be bothering ourselves over;ly with what we might get in a draft 'next' year, or that we'll still have a really good pick, ( 'cause we're still playing crap !! ) We have some kpp's coming along. They do take a bit longer. What we really need is some get up and go. We are far from having too many 'real" midfielders !!

sensational stuff isnt it With Garland back in form down back with Warnock and possibly dare I say it Riv in some sort of nick ( or simply replaced..timem to stop mucking around with what if's ) There is the opportunity of Martin playing forward or back. Some real talent on the forward line. crikey..thats pretty close to a half way decent effort at a REAL footy team..with real outcomes possible. cold showers all round hey ?? lol

any takers that he ( Fev) is on a no drop `contract ?

Laurel and Hardy, Bangers and Mash , Pie and Sauce Scully and Tengove !!! As others already summise better feed with intent will make the forwards job a lot easier and the defenders a nightmare. We have some talls up forward now. They will get better and some lesser mortals will benefit too. The modern game ISNT all about bombing to a tall up front, thats just one method of entry. Hard fast accurate lace out delivery doesnt require great height. It requires presence of mind, speed and power. Give the likes Of Wonna and Maric opportunities to show their craft with a decent delivery system and the potency factor rises. We need a clever drilled and potent forward line, not just a gaggle of talls stumbling in to each others paths. The possibility of this Starsky and Hutch combo has major ramifications for some currently in red and blue. Thas football, not all can stay, nor should they. Each and every jumper must be earned; week in week out !! Better decision makers must replace the hesitant and costly. Skilled kickers must replace the errant. Positive players must replace the "hospital pass" brigade. When you go about designing a Formula One car the most important part is the engine. All else flows from this...the chasis is next , then body design to suit. Note..to suit. Lets get the engine of this team right then build the rest around it....to suit

The likely hood is again we will bring 6 players into the fold. with obviously six departing. Preferably , for mine , picks 1 and 2 for mids...then...then...the best players of any ilk Scully seems a monty.. time will tell who shuffles up best on day for pick 2.

Thats kinda the whole point. No one probably will much but it will have the synergy of the Swans going for it. It would be more ground roots in nature , a whole lot cheaper to operate and If there is any genuine following of the code its there for the offing. . The real question is....why would anyone in Sydney follow a second Syudney team ? The answer is probably not. Thats the whole argument. A least a West Sydney playing under the guise of th eSwans 2nds already has some following. In this way you are still only expecting the NSW consituents to follow ONE team. Just two opportunities to watch them etc.

as far as i recall cut off is the 30th June and I had 31500 :D
-
If we get the draw from hell and have been genuinely competitive without a win then that in itself will speak for him ( Bailey ) Its not so much cut and dried wins..its clear cut improvement. If were any better it will be obvious..if not...that too... not rocketry here
-
Ive said it before ..and here goes again. If they must have a West Sydney team, use it as the magoos for the Swans and have it play in whatever league ( Canberra probably ) or...or.. the VFL. If it grows genuine legs, if it garners a true following out there ....then it will be abundantly apparent for all to see and it might get to enter the AFL at a much later date in much the same way as Port and Freo. But to just plonk down some posts, throw bottomless cheques at the abyss all in hopes of something is just plain idiocy. Everyone seems to know it but Vlad
-
A big problem for Wheels is he hasnt quite got all he zip he used to. He often plays a zone type of defence and corals his opposition. This falls flat when you havent got the legs to execute it any more. So much is said in defence of players in that they try 110% ..or do this or that. But when all those things dont add up to an acceptable game then its all just hype and air. Melbourne needs to be results driven. ( in 2010 ) There is no try, only Do !!
-
Still......Corey,Bartel, Ablett, Selwood , Chapman and Ling do make a rather compelling case
-
actually.. Id be looking more towards seasons end. If the signs arent there come mid year of improvement, and real improvement then the Bailey experiment may have run its course. If he starts getting results well thats what its all about.
-
concur
-
It seems to me its easier to find people to kick goals than it is to run hard and effectively all day in the middle. Id be looking for another mid. Injuries seem more prone to these players and real depth..and quality depth is required
-
This I think is the dilemma. The difference between looking good and crap can be but metres or milliseconds. As skills and abilities are honed the execution becomes tighter, results flow, confidence grows..execution becomes better.... etc etc etc..its self feeding ...or self destroying..often a fine line
-
yeah... cant rely too much on smokie picks hey... oh whats his name..that bloke Davey !!
-
Bob..thats the whole point and youve miscontrued it.. It OUGHT to be about the clubs but thats NOT how teh AFL goes about things. It goes about its OWN agenda..and thats to be the biggest behemoth of a business it can..and to hell with the real issues. edit P.S> a lot of the money remains with the AFL...its not like a Co-op where al lis distributed.. It acts as a defacto trustee... Lots of Overheads you see !!
-
Im affraid ...you dont get it..the AFL runs the game despite the clubs. The money the AFL has is phenonemal whilst the clubs, essentially the owners of the AFL go begging. How would exactly the MFC lose out or suffer by teh Inclusion of a Tasmanian team.. a pretty broad sweep of a brush there if I might say. Hawthorn wil simply by lack of sponsorship and lack of effective monopoly. I fail to see what real impact it has on others. I would argue that bringing that State up to the National level will only focus and emphasise the interest of that Apple Isle in the game Again.. I DONT think the AFL runs the game for the benefit of all Australians.. Quite the contrary..just itself
-
as a Devils advocate.. Jones's endeavour and pursuit is without question...his results are..well..debatable. Many observers query his decision making. His turnovers are costly. Granted he isnt alone.
-
yes you do...you say the AFL knows best.. despite many others.. arguing its lind endeavour is insane. I have said all along that the AFL disregards its constituent clubs and works to its own ends..ie. the tail waging the dog. The AFL..or more so certain executives of such have a view that it thinks is Nationalistic and in so is working for the clubs but its only lip service. It makes no sense spending money hand over fist in an inappropriate schedule towards an outcome that is manifestly before its time. Its a generation early in regards to any warranting of a second Sydney team at AFL level. The only club that would hurt by the inclusion of a Tasmanaina team is surely Hawthorn. It must know that its on borrowed time
-
Success..what else, but you can tilt at windmills or pick your moments. If the Penultimate achievent is a premiership and the gradient is steep then the wise man plots a course across the grade easing his way. This is how I see the first two years. Once more accommodating ground is found then a more direct tilt can be amassed. I would expect more competitve team selections, more forthright expectations of youth , less reliance ( if any ) on back end players and the fast tracking of talent. This will show up as "true measure " with a steady climb upwards.
-
I make no such assumption, infact I dont believe it really has the interests of teh clubs it WORKS for..it cedes to its own ego alone. To say thatthe inclusion of a Tasmanian team affords no growth is absurd. The AFL is their to work for its constituent owners..i.e the current teams but it works to its own accord often ignoring and riding roughshod over them. You seem to ignore the fact that practically no one in the west of Sydney could care less about attending sport let alone AFL games. You obviously dont know the lay of the land up there
