  1. Well,as I see it, its a bit of a win win..( or is that win/lose/win lol ) thing . elevate a couple, give them a run, see what they can or cant do. Yes, deary me it might dilute the ongoing strength of that winning team (cough ,splutter, laugh) but it actually has a real benefit in garnering information. Surely this type of thinking must be prevalent currently in minds of the footy dept as it endeavours to fathom the likley scenarios resulting from managing it's list !!
  2. only my lay appeciation but I thought the idea of long term definition was so a rookie could be elevated for the time other player is out. If only 7 games left well..I would have thought its all but there for an automatic lifting at the clubs descretion ( and budget). Surely every club is able to fill its list (numerically ) at all times ?
  3. aplogies for double posting..lol.. dang pc.hopefully a mod will delete other.pls.. Im sure whatever costs are involved teh club would have to view them as part of a greater picture, if you get my drift
  4. Bell,Maric out for year Well these lads have gone under the knife to fix their ails. In so doing there must I presume now be a vacuum of two positions in the list. As part of the assumed strategy of Bailey to somehow orchestrate the 'correct' result by seasons end who is now likely or left to fill a couple of pairs of boots. Might we see Hughes and McKenzie get a gig ?
  5. We're about to find out just how well this bloke Bailey really can coach
  6. You're a wizard Liam...you're a wizard !!!
  7. I tell you what... I was pretty [censored] off the day that #37 overstepped.. and will be again if the wearer of same said jumper doesnt make amends !!! He has it in his power.. he needs to make that day right...dont give me the 244 games etc.. Its about now !! no disrespect intended at all .. hope his recovery goes well.. but am sure he wants whats best...
  8. Redleg..understand your sentiments mate, but the club has to also realise its there on our behlaf and I cant imagine there'd be that many happy campers if we threw away such an opportunity as will present itself come seasons end. They have to know this..and they have to KNOW this without any misunderstanding.
  9. for ?? they own or have trademarked AIR + any other word in english language....be a few airlines in a spot of bother then a sihlouetted image of Jurrah with a footy ...?? do nike have footies ?? Nup!! you CAN DO IT !!!!
  10. thats pretty good mate yep..ought to be sent to the club pronto..(should be you Clint ) great appreciation for the guy and wonderful promotional opportunity..well done
  11. It seems the real bonus for say us..as a club , is that you can garner some value for what would otherwise be a delisting without benefits. Good for players too but am inclined to take the more mercenary view..
  12. Im literally starting to feel ill over all of this... surely we cant be as stupid as to not be clever. Cant wait for season 09 to be over as well..with only four wins. I can settle for Scully and whatever after.. Would prefer Scully anfd Trengove.. but hey..
  13. Certainly has merit... think I need to think it through more, but on first impression is quite interesting.
  14. one would hope.. as would we that phones calls from teh great Jimma may mentor some sense. Who else has their stomach in knots and heart in mouth besides me ..lol
  15. Two issues to this.. firstly any kid WILL have to go where told..as mentioned for the 2 years. Secondly however ..as others suppose..if you stamp your feet and jump up and down and make it known that come 730 days hence you will go .. then its not a really wise investment in a kid to have them go when maturing !!.. Its a bluff of sorts for sure, but as a club would you want to call it ?? its a toughy !!
  16. Interesting as the thread is noted as a "Lottery" .. Lotteries by their very nature are convoluted in a manner as to obviate any natural bias. Hence..a game of pure chance. Move to the AFL draft. Its no longer such a ambiguous turn of a wheel. Much effort and research along with observations goes towards selctions now. The manner in which the talent is showcased and scrutinised would suggest ts far more akin to a game of poker. All players know whats in their hands and whats in the River..and then its down to cunning and to some degree luck as to how you play the rest out. Also like in cards.. you will see trends, runs etc.. and if you can card count ( Shhhhhh!! ) then you can appraise the odds before you. We now see such trends in the up and comers and there's much more of a science in the manner of picking. Whomever gets Scully will indeed be lucky....but its no lottery !!
  17. It just beggars disbelief that we can fall for these faux heroics of !! "we dont tank" oh no... we are pure of spirit etc etc blah blah BLAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! This is a business...yes a sporting game but run on a business model. In doing so you must rationalise and grow your assets to the best of YOUR advantage ..and quite frankly stuff everyone else. Businesses have fire sales.. sometimes they sell things as a door buster and LOSE money on them in order to bolster the underlying bottom line. We're supposed to have some smart minds at the MFC..Smart my arse if this is their game plan. DUMB is the only word that comes to mind...well not really as theres some adjectives that ought to supplant <_< I can only hope that they are indeed playing the "game" by saying one thing and orchestrating another !! There will be howls of protest and many many emails and letters if we dont get our just desserts come end of season. Carlton blatantly flout all the rules and are ( they must be by lack of action ) condoned by the AFL.Collingwood have the league hoodwinked and more power to them , we ought to learn.Essendon do it their way. Btw..notice those three clubs have the most premierships also. Are we really that bloody stupid that we feel the need to assume the moral crown and sacrifice our longer term aspirations for fleeting martyrdom ?? True leadership would be to amass the players and sit them down and explain the whole thing about battles and wars..and the concept of a strategic withdrawl to allow a regrouping and bolstering of ranks in order to mount a better, stronger campaign. Are we as a club just that @#$%!!*^ DUMB !!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. i'll be quite happy if as good as any But I dont think we've even begun to see his star shine. When he can focus on footy and with a few more kilos ( more than the 7 he has apparently put on to date ) with more strength ,,he'll be just fine thankyou
  19. that might just be the most astute observation of your's here ever YM !!
  20. very much so.
  21. (never quite the same after that one) Pretty well summed up C84. I too am not a paid up member of his fan club ( and ironically my dland number IS 32..lol. He has played overall a much better game this year and yet for his experience and supposed abilities he still butchers a lot of kicks, ( one of his forte's in early years btw) and as a team mate I wouldn't be too sure whether I was his mate or not on the end of some ( many ) handballs. And this is probably the greatest shame as a lot of the rest of his game can be very very good. He is his own worst enemy.
  22. Not necessarily...you assume they are only forward players !! They arent...but have at times. however a forward 50 could look like Wonna Watts Maric Sylvia . Bate . Jurrah There are a number of players that could slot in or rest in the forward zone. It is my , and that of many other posters that some players remainon the field after stints through the midfield and rest up forward , only coming to the bench every other occasion as compared to when they are presently ( if that makes sense ..lol ) I think Maric will be just fine. Another preseason and form and he is something special. many have forgotten this already but some of us havent. Id like to see Jurrah and Maric in the same attacking half... it just might light up a few games I still think Green is most dangerous as an inboard winger...reminds me a little of another classy Melbourne player in that role. No matter what combo we come up with there are several players suddenly bumped... rotations are the key.. but its the manner we do it in that holds the key.
  23. yep !! goes to the versatility being created amongst this team.
  24. Possibly part of the problem we al lface in deciding this player or that as to role is that the classic line up has all but gone in the modern game. What you need is a forward unit.. who or watt is this or that all but becomes physcial sematics. Its the role given to each, not the locality.
  25. Well in that I sort of agree..as in the very original post I had him forther out with Watts in the square. The opposition is forced to match up on us and where we are, not other way around remember. If on the day a particular setup match isnt working, we can swap them etc. Im very keen they allow each other room and that theres no inclination form the club to 'pair' them
