Success..what else, but you can tilt at windmills or pick your moments. If the Penultimate achievent is a premiership and the gradient is steep then the wise man plots a course across the grade easing his way. This is how I see the first two years. Once more accommodating ground is found then a more direct tilt can be amassed. I would expect more competitve team selections, more forthright expectations of youth , less reliance ( if any ) on back end players and the fast tracking of talent. This will show up as "true measure " with a steady climb upwards.

I make no such assumption, infact I dont believe it really has the interests of teh clubs it WORKS for..it cedes to its own ego alone. To say thatthe inclusion of a Tasmanian team affords no growth is absurd. The AFL is their to work for its constituent owners..i.e the current teams but it works to its own accord often ignoring and riding roughshod over them. You seem to ignore the fact that practically no one in the west of Sydney could care less about attending sport let alone AFL games. You obviously dont know the lay of the land up there

The engine room of a team is its midfield....ours misfires and sputters. Maybe a better tuned one would afford other areas of the game more to work with. Better control through guts with constant peppering in to the 50 afford the forwards more and easier use of the pill. The more it enters the more pressure on the defence the more likely it is to reign supreme. Lets bolster the midfiled this draft...the rest will follow

Insurmountable West Sydney So much waffle ...so much spin ...so much wasted opportunity. The AFL is all about the Australian in Australian Football League. Its all about representation throughout the States and Territories, all about it being the ALL Australian Game and yet that Apple Isle down south, that land of fanatical followers goes without true voice in a national competition. And I cant help but ask why ? The AFL wants some exposure in the biggest State...and it has one. Yet even that team struggles with all that it has to call upon. This all goes to the inability of the AFL to understand the different natures of the various outposts of Australiana. Has Demetrious & Co ever lived in the western suburbs of Sydney.. I have. I can tell you its not the West of Melbourne, its not the West of Perth or Adelaide. Its different. Its non descript and yet it has its own flavour. No sport rules but League would come closest with Soccer a slightly distant second. Aussie Rules..W...T...F..is that..!!! The AFL may drag out some footage of some aberations that pass as interest but it really only reinforces its ignorance of its target audience. The tail that wags the dog still doesnt get it. A secondary style of following is all you might muster there, the West of Sydney , but it will take years, many years. Those folk down South must feel very stiff at not being heard. Their voice seemingly lost across the Strait does not reach the ivory tower of AFL house, the resonance of thousands wailing in disbelief goes without ackowledgement from the sports highest office. The Game could be so much better catered to by people who actually understand the backyard it exists in. *sigh* Open your eyes AFL !!!

keep in mind ...decent mids will kick a few goals

I think if we need to bolster our rucks then some avenue re trade or rookie might bring dividends...but as to this years 2nd pick.. got to be a near ready to go ( 0-1 years..ready that is) player. Its just too valuable to waste speculatively
-
ahhhh ..lol tad confusing for lil ol me..given who we're playing..hehehe
-
might get a bit crowded down there ? As heretic as this sounds.. ( somewhere Queeny is laughing ) If you have the "twins" playing down with crumbers around and a Miller type ( i.e lead up half forward ) filling the 50 with good marking ( and he can ) delivering onto those two then its a pretty fair combo all round.

I think Jurrah to ought to jettison the 48 next season as its a rookies jumper. I wonder if a certain purposeful courageous and inspiring type would mind handing down his number to Liam ? What do you reckon David ??
-
Watts...Jurrah anyone... ?? boy they will be a headache for coaches to counter in years to come. Id like some insurance for Brocky and Beamer etc..another mid... also keeps that midfield hungry
-
given the nature of how pecking orders change as seasons grow older..( exhibit A - 2008 ) its quite likely the candidates will sort themselves out by draft time. Watts wasnt up the front til much later in year. So after Scully, id be inclined to see who shows their hand. I have a leaning towards a utility midfileder.. but lets see who wants to play. Maybe a Butcher..maybe another Davey type lurks..who knows.. no-one yet really !!
-
will we?? well you would something akin to an idiot if some sort of clear indication hadnt evolved by then. There will be no "brakes" on next year. Its for real. Another horror year ??. ..ffs.. please.. every year has its injuries.. you allow in some regards for them. That in itself offers up opportuniites to observe how in a "real" year he goes about his business How about we just blindly sign him for another two ..just in case half the team is hit by busses ( or trams) and there are anywhere upwards of half a dozen other extenuating circumstances ????? NO !! After the NAB and First half of 10 some clearer perspective of the clubs direction will manifest and how much Bailey is to blame or claim for it. its not really that hard you know !!
-
there are no PP's next year.. they are all suspended. Not sure for following years..but likely to be same when West Sydney enters. Moral.. Dont count on any rewards for bottoming out after this year
-
The thing is we need to stop considering our salvation will come from perennially getting early picks. fair enough for this year but then thats two years good cropping and after this it needs to go down the development and refineent path. If after this year we dont seriously have some talent then we really ought to give it all away. From here on ( after 09 ) is top up and possibly trade...not rebuild
-
as mentioned in other thread... these first two years arent a fair show of what he's about.. by mid '10 we will have a much clearer indication of where the team is and how well Bailey sis doing at the helm.
-
The first two years under Baileys charge are essentially strategic. Next year is a true measure of where we all /he is
-
ffs..its his first real year Given we don't have our best backs playing week in week out at present I think Kyle is coming along just fine. These are the games the kids need
-
Would imagine the most important aspect of all this is do these deals allow us ( mfc) to become profitable. Im not so concerned about other clubs etc just us. I reckon a million added to the bottom line ought to go some way towards that. Hopefully this doesnt affect the equalisation payouts though as then all that is achieved is a different source of money with no advancement.

Must admit ...cant say have much opportunity these days to wander down to midweek games or training and such so will have to rely on the impressions of Predergast and others like him. Scully is #1 with space to 2nd. It was good that we got the likes of Watts and Jurrah in last years drafts but its nigh on Extremely Important that we get Scully in this years.. any one else is up for debate but a real gun of a Midfielder is really our missing link. We have some forwards..some rusty ..some green and some just waiting to draw blood 9 as it were ) our backs are firming up and developing cohesion and poise ...our centre is a mish-mash as it seems the current players are simply playing th ewrong roles..or those not entirely suited to their strengths. Im inclined to think should we be indeed fortunate enought to get him ( scully ) that a solid preseason will be all he requires before letting him loose in the middle. This year we dont really want to shine too much as it were but next year Bailey will know its time to roll dice and get moving, no more dreams picks await and its time to play ball, for real and for keeps. Scully wouldnt be all that far off being 19 come 2010's season proper start and with a bit more growth and bulk i can see no reason not to put him in ( proviso is he is as good as he seems ). Season 010 needs a whole different attitude to this year. His forthright , go get it style of footy is just what we need. Personally ,cant wait for 2010...is going to be damn exciting to be a Dee

For Watt its worth I agree pretty well 100 % with Sheahan in this instance. He makes valid points.. he hasnt had a proper pre season, he doesnt train full time and his focus this year ISNT on playing senior footy..its finishing his VCE. The remainder of this year is in all reality a dead rubber. Best he get all his other stuff sorted out ..get a proper preseason under his belt and bring his training up to scratch and then he's giving himself and everyone a fair go which is as I recall exactly what the club intended to do.
-
I would tend to hope for a distinct improvement... 6-7 wins with definite grunt or I will be asking the MFC to please expalin the coaches position. Having said that I think we might just do something next year...albeit with an injection of some ready to go talent
-
Dappa..there is a certain logic that suggests improvement by degrees and your model would follow that. In many ways there isnt a great deal between a great pass and a near miss etc. You can extrapolate out. With incremental advances in many players some passages of play that nearly came off beofre will start to come off. With this much confidence and roll on effects. This is not to suggest we dont have a long way to go but I could see some measure of promise in your view.

It was interesting to note the bit in the article which refered to the replacement of soccer with footy. Was surprised at that ut just shows what the right programs and attitude can achieve. oh tw...havent you heard no one follows basketball !! ( they play it..just dont watch it..lol )
