  1. ah yes,...forgot Bell and Barty.. cheers !! I m just a little jittery re Beamer and Riv.. probably more so Jared. call me picky ( or otherwaise ) but he's no where near his old self. yes extenutaing circumstances perhaps but whislt he shines at VFL he gets a littel out of sorts in teh First, his decisions arwee somewhat in teh "Bruce" league . Not how I recall him years back. if this is all we have going forward..well.. not good enough. If he needs to find rythym etc well last games will help anyway. But for mine Im not convinced. Is Beamer over his injuries too ??. PJ for me is , whilst apparently on the books for next year thats no certainty he wont be offered up , or such. granted...I often see things a bit differently from many. Buckley I understand may be available the last 3-4 games..stand to be corrected.. Wheats ?? is he coming, staying or going ?? Bell definitely needs to ice his cake..or its auf wiedersehn !! Bartram... needs 'real' form..and needs to show it now. there are simply too many others with some cause to suggest they will play next year, plus the up and comers..plus the walk-up draftees. Some lads should be worried a little, and the club needs to know where they are at.
  2. This is probably news to everyone ( not ) , there isnt really much left in this season to extract other than that which "we dare not talk about" . And even that only occurrs after the season and after the finals and we have to wait and wade through the demise and scathing before we can claim our desserts. If this were Tennis we're facing a couple of months of dead rubbers so to speak. So what do we do as a club. Carry on the farce ? Pretend we really think we can win 3-4 games ( god forbid ) ?? Or do we do another type of "list management" and hold auditions for those who wish to actually remain on the list. Let them play it out . Some swansongs, some fair dinkum life( footy ) depends on it games and they can show us what all the fuss was about at one time. There is no dount ( to this observer) that 3-4 will be ending their careers by way of "sayonara, it was a grand ol' time but life goes on !" and some may simply be slipped out the back door with hardly a cut lunch nor a showbag ! Thats footy, thats life. Personally I wouldnt bother with any charade as to reality and get some bod's back into red and blue and say "its now or never, we're not looking for a win per se, we just want you to try. To play footy, to given us a reason to give you a call back to season oh-10 !!" It would be refreshing, it would be cathargic in a fashion, to do away with this ridiculous position we find ourselves in and take the lead back in the remaining games and find some true value in them. There are a few who definitely have no instant recall to the next season. If they are fit, or at least not incapacitated by injury let them play; let them all play and see what comes of it all. This to me gives us something from what is otherwise a total nothing of a remainder of a season. I'd even include in this list some players many regard as front up monty's of a start each week. Some of these to mine are either off the boil or have the stellar years behind them. If thats the case I would want to know. So those that ought to play out for mine are Robbo, Rivers, Beamer, Wheels, Wheats, PJ, Dunn, Bail, Miller, Newton, Valenti and Buckley. Dont even really care where you put them Just give them a task to do and evaluate upon the results. Not all available each week and some as mentioned subject to injury but even if they only put in 2-3 quarters that will give an indication. One needs to have some balance understand but Im not after wins, just real information that is useful going forward. This has some real purpose for mine...anything else is a smoke and mirrors dance and no one really wins.
  3. Dismay !! Only safe to win games when its mathematically sound. Yep call me one of those people if you wish but theres far more to lose than to gain by winning at the wrong time.
  4. I agree..individual stores have different results. Strangely a year or so ago happened to be in the Frankston Rebel Sports. Looking for something entirely different when I noticed very little Dee stuff on racks etc.. Stacks of Freo, Collingwood Crows Carlton etc. Assistant asked if needed any help and I just asked, "why so littel Melourne stuff?" ...answer..."weve just prtety much sold out of it !!". There must be a lot of secret Melbourne followers huh !!!
  5. The important thing is for them to recoup in time to get a good preseason under their belts. The remainder is still a dead rubber no matter how you play it realy. Yes..all good if you can get games in, but better if you are really fit.
  6. couldnt agree more, we'd simply be cutting off our noses to spite our faces not to. It might appease many's supposed righteous sensibilities to do this but what will anyone really care of in five years.. Us holding a Cup high...or that year we finished last ? I know what I prefer
  7. I need us to lose because I want the picks :D yep..any way you do it its pretty much win/win
  8. I got the idea , reading betwen lines in Baileys utterances of late that others may be ahead of Jack to break back in. Why ? well.. we can all make assumptions and offer guesses. I think there is simply some validity in Watts needing to focus on his VCE and he can get back on th epaddock when its appropriate. I would expect Bailey to start conducting his own MFC-VCE viability & competency exams !! He will need to start the weeding process about now, whilst all the whiles looking like we are trying to win but maintaining the "management"
  9. good luck !! still ..lets continue on your observation...yes Bailey got it right I think. He isnt letting it ( Cols run of decent efforts ) get him too carried away. He still expects the team disciplines etc as you should. Its this kind of difference that separates us from the better teams. Good teams just dont stuff up..not as teams, not as individuals. Some may think this a bit harsh, i'd rather view it as a gentle reminder
  10. seems he didnt please Bailey either Sylvia let us down: Bailey who'd da thought !!
  11. Well when everyone quite gets over bagging each other :D There are some relevant observations from the limited seniors time that both NikNat and Jack have played. If i were totally unbiased I would have to say that both have 'something' its just with NikNat Im really not sure what that is Watts has showed some of his skills and poise together with signs that he 'gets it' and learns from mistakes. You can see he has ability written all over him and hopefully in time and further conditioning along with focus ( i.e no school ) he'll come on just fine. NikNat...geez.. To see someone display fundamental skill inadequacies would for me, if a Weagle-fan be just a might disconcerting. It really is as if he has to learn footy all over again. That to me is the difference between the two. NikNat may well get there but has some serious work ahead before he can bring whatever he does have to the table. As another mentioned it was easy for him playing amongst the kids...now he's playing men...different ball game
  12. Doggo..when you spell it out like that you make a compelling case. I think you may well be right.. the icing and cherry without the cake..well, without any substantial cake. Maybe the substance can indeed be found in the gym with resulting improvements in the body on body duelling etc. Good summation
  13. yep...kicks straight over them !!
  14. Im not sure we would get NOTHING at trade..but what for whom..thats the conundrum. Depends who's shopping for what.
  15. agree..succint
  16. Im not convinced that Wheatley is required.. for a number of reasons and yet I sort of like his line breaking ability and he is one of the very few who can hit from a kick out, and we're SO good at that. Part of Wheater's problem fo rmine is what is the actual role he's supposed to be filling ? or ..another way what does he bring to the party no one else does ? Its hard to answer.. thats the dillema.
  17. why ? if he can fill week to week needs.. a genuine all rounder of sorts. is that not allowed these days ?
  18. Well that the thing isnt it.. Newton has all the atributes, just not the history. He OUGHT to be able but we all hold out collective breath. Not the way to run a railroad as they say. He can do it.. but whilst BOB can.. we're not sure about Juice..its up to him.
  19. Im really starting to think that Martin is one of those finds. As suggested he can play front and back and pinch hit at the bounce. But we still need to fill those various positions properly though.
  20. now Im curious I sort of felt strange putting him on this list also ...but did becasue at the end of the day the same sort of result occurs. But interested in your take.
  21. very poignant B)
  22. careful..we are only currently one game clear at the bottom.. no guarantee of this in coming weeks as we play those that need to finish above us.. fate can be cruel.. Take nothing for granted !!
  23. A bit of an old chestnut but hopefully we can all discuss this rationally I wait with passing trepidation in raising this as many will see it as some sort of Bashing !!. But we are not that far from seasons end. We wont be in the top 8.. with any luck we actually wil lfinish last and have picks 1 and 2. Picking/drafting/trading for players requires that there is space available to do so. Somewhere , somehow 6-8 spaces will be made to accommodate what will historically be looked back upon as teh icing on MFC's cake of reinvention. The year we shored up defences and built armaments of quality with which to go forth and eventually lift the cup, the Holy Grail of Footy, a Premiership. So..who goes ? There are those who longevity will be put under the microscope for the last time. They may be coerced or suaded to see teh 'bigger' picture and vacate. Some will and obviously some won't. There is a commonality in and amongst many other threads as we ponder the futures of some players. Curiously the same brush seems to be painting this player and that with a hue of, good @VFL.. wanting @AFL They just dont seem to be able to deliver week in week out at the highest calling. This may well not be all of their own doing. It might be down to what the coach asks of them, it may not enirely suit their demeanor or skillsets. Yes, there maybe a missmatch of directions. Some may be better suited to directorships by other coaches at other clubs and may yet reach the 'standard' in a consistent manner warranted by the game at its highest. Others wont and just plain cant. Some may attribute this to poor handling or injury or the sun was in the fourth house too long. Whatever the reason some just dont seem to cut the mustard. I offer up the following for such disection, and in particular order: Newton, Bell, Johnson, Dunn, Buckley , Hughes , Zomer , Wheatley and Valenti... just my view of course. There are some who ought to retire or consider it at seasons end obviating the need to delist them in an ignominious light. Lets say.. 2 go in this manner without prejudice. Then 4 -6 must go.. those that dont provide dividends at AFL simply must be moved on, thats all there is to it whether you like to acknowledge it or not. I would suggest at least 4 of the above list will need to be delisted for exactly that reason, but which. If any of you accept this premise then who ?? and possibly why.. trade potential ( i.e recouping value and effort by club ) or simply time's up etc. Sorry..next !! etc
  24. what ^ he said Is entirely short sighted and foolhardy to waste this years early picks for some ridiculous sense of winning culture faux morality. Theres a time for everything.. winning any more than two more games is not it this year !! would be just plain DUMB
  25. Juice and or PJ could be traded... Yes, i realise there is that question of who might want them.. and why.. who knows. Some team may think juice deepens their stocks and worth the perserverance. PJ..again who knows the thinkings of some other clubs but if MFC cant see a gig going forward for him post '10 you might shop him around..all conjecture of course.. but another scenario that falls ino that possible if not entirely probably category Valenti... can see him thinking of himself as the hard luck story...so near..yet.. If we bolster our midfield stocks as many predict then where does Valenti fit in ?? Still if he was a second fiddle mid behind the likes of Scully ∨ Tregove then he might be a curious and effective member yet. Or he's delisted
