If we pinched him from anybody it was Collingwood who had him down to play a few games in their VFA team earlier this year. He played well but had to go home. The Pies apparently wanted to draft him but there was a snafu with his draft papers. By the time it was resolved it was too late for the national draft so I think we've possibly picked up a bargain.
Call me a cynic but today's HUN has a picture on the back page of Polak at training and doing ruck work. He looks pretty advanced in his recovery to me.
What is it that makes his case different to any other player with a debilitating long term injury? If he's not right to go at the start of 2009 then why can't he just go on the long term injury list and Richmond promote a rookie as the rules already provide?
To make a special rule at this stage would set a precedent. Clubs could claim extra picks simply because they had players with long term injuries. Robbo was injured in mid season and all reports suggest that he'd be struggling to get himself right by the start of the season. What would stop us from applying for some special consideration to get an extra pick in the PSD too?
To me, this is a case of draft tampering if it's allowed at this late stage of proceedings.
There's an article on the Wide World of Sports site that compares Watts with Riewoldt - Watts and Riewoldt - a bit of history repeating?
by Grant Thomas.
Simpleanswer. We have first pick in the PSD. Invite him to train over the next few weeks and get a close hand view as to whether he has the hunger to train and play AFL.
The more I read about this draft the more I believe we are going to add at least four quality players to the stable for next year.
Good luck Mr. Prendergast and thanks to Stevo!
Yes, I agree that you were struggling to make a point and it's possible that I might have missed it (whatever it was) but, that said, I think you misunderstand what professional sport is all about.
A mate who lives in Adelaide has been pumping Phil Davis' tyres for some time. Says he's a more complete footballer and a more mature person than Johnston and that the Crows won't be too happy if he goes before their second pick comes around.
Great piece.
Renewing my membership tomorrow & will also contribute to the Debt Demolition the money I was going to spend on Friday's IR game v Ireland. No need to tip my money in the direction of those wankers from the AFL.
O'Keefe Hawk talk was a furphy: Roos
So it seems that the Hawks were never in the hunt and presumably, Carlton only wanted ROK if they could get him for nix in the PSD.
Nice people.
Liked the second part in particular for its inspiration but I hope we don't follow the Hawks with this sham - Hawks claim $2m pokies revenue as community benefit!
