I hear ya. That finals series changed a lot of how I view the game now. I don't get triggered by any stupid AFL decisions anymore because seeing them not uphold their own rules was the final straw. I was absolutely spent as soon as that season ended, I had spent nearly every week of the season hell bent on seeing that illusive flag at the G, I became obsessed and it was exhausting. I didn't want to know about footy for months, as a matter of fact the new season came way too soon, I could have gone another few months without it. I'd also had some personal news that I'm still currently trying to work through that put things into perspective. Because of all of this I changed my attitude towards our fortunes. I lowered the expectations and tried to get back to just enjoying the game for what it is. It hasn't been easy, but I don't regret this. I also decided that 21 was likely 'the one' and to just be eternally grateful for what I was able to see. We as fans got bashed around last year. None of this is meant to be a sympathy story but I have certainly changed as a result of it.

Have to give a lot of credit to Alex Neal-Bullen for his job on Daicos. Although I thought it robbed us of a system component he certainly did a great job. 15 possessions a career low for Daicos?

If they aren't going to put in effort in front of 85,000 then no crowd can help them.

I don't buy the effort comments either I think they are a total joke. It might have washed if we were a bottom 4 team going against a top liner at full strength but a 38 point loss to a side missing 9 players? Oh but it was better than last week, newsflash: anything looks better than last week. I wanted to hit the ground running, learn how to walk again by putting one foot in front of the other. And as mentioned before, the effort was not good for long enough. This was not a case of doing everything right except finishing. We turned over at will in bad areas and failed to execute basic fundamentals. I've seen people applauding May's game today, are you kidding me? Contested marks are completely negated when you play on and handball to the opposition. I suppose Rd 2 2016 was a good effort as well? Give me a fricken break.

Not going to be too harsh but I think all things considered a quick handshake and off the ground as fast as possible would have sufficed.

It's not a WWE storyline though Deever. It's not about a guy that needs to get their comeuppance and the ratings shooting up. We needed to win the football game today that's what I wss hell bent about. Not spilling Maynard's blood all over the G. Now if you can let him know you're there with a bump here and there then yes I'm probably with you but can you imagine how stupid we'd look if we flew the flag and still lost?

Effort also extends to very small things like sticking tackles that you should stick and applying enough energy to kick or even handball over an opposition player 1 metre away from you. The number of lazy skill errors was embarrassing and cost us dearly. I know a lot of people think effort is just getting your head over the ball and going in hard but there's much more.

Yep. I did like the way Rivers at least wanted to take the game on when we were 5 goals down.

There's very little to take out of this game. I'm hearing that the effort was there. Though that's arguable that it was there for 4 quarters I would damn well expect it and in no way is it a pass mark after the utter garbage we saw last week. Tom MacDonald, Jacob Van Rooyen who at least presented, Maxy. Not many after that. Stats were relatively even so this was a scores from turnover loss. We sucked.
