The healthy mental health thread
Thanks for your thoughts Jaded it's much appreciated. It's great that you have your partner but by no means does that mean it's heaps easier than us who are alone. The financial impact has been terrible with me as well. Had an investment portfolio that I was steadily building throughout the last 5 years with the view of buying property around now which had about 30% of it gutted instantly. Had my work hours cut to 30 a week (Which I'm very grateful to still have a job, for now). I've tried real hard to not think about the finance side. It's funny because I always consider myself someone who can get by well in my own company and don't always feel up for the Zoom/Facetime/Skype stuff but I have I have to agree Jaded this is one of the single most beneficial things you can do right now and you usually always feel good for having done it. I was playing online boardgames with some friends on Fri night though a site called boardgamearena.com. Trivia would be a great thing to try next actually. Then there's the exercise, I would be absolutely stuffed without it right now. If I had one bit of advice for people of all fitness levels it would purely be to get out in the fresh air once a day. For 60 min, 30 min, 5 min, even 1 min just do it.

FB shaming of Mfc players & Coaches
Nah it's just a mind numbing exercise going on there Old Dee. I used to go on a couple but would always leave feeling dumber than when I started. It sounds arrogant but I like talking about football with people who know football. Not so much people who say the most obvious things all the time. Then there's the negatives, as ugly as things get here they multiply 3 times on there. And that's before all the unregulated, allowing racist comments/hatespeech behaviour.

I don't go on the MFC/AFL Facebook related groups. I actually hold them in contempt.

Commentators
I don't know why anyone takes commentators today seriously and personally, just tune out and watch the footy. But honestly as guy who missed that era I would have loved to listen to Harry Beitzel I can see where Rex got a lot of his influence. Thanks to Youtube I can actually get a glimpse into what he was like as a caller and apart from being an entertainer he really didn't miss a beat. Leek I've really only read stories about but people really liked his kind manner and relatable nature and maybe that is what is missing. We all listen to the BTs and Brayshaws and Russells and while I'm sure they are decent blokes just all sound like clowns who would be d**ks in real life.

Ben Gibson
This man is brilliant, he doesn't give a toss about asking the brutal questions. Max who I've loved in interviews this year was lacklustre in response. "There are positives to take out of this".Seriously man come on what a complete load. You the man Ben.

CHANGES: Rd 16 vs Fremantle
It's now becoming a question of which players are in our future. Lockhart straight in, Baker? Why not, let's see what he can do. Bennell? Honestly don't see how it can hurt, how much less intense could he really be than our other guys. Give him a chance to stick it up the old mob. But that's how I will be thinking from here on out. Do we want to get game time into guys in our future plans or do we want to play the Joel Smiths and the Wagners who might do a nice job that helps us win a game but may not be in the long range approach. Basically if we're going to miss the 8 I'd rather take some small positive out of it than zero development.

The Oscar McDonald Appreciation Thread
That moment on the back flank he did the best job of judging the ball off the boot and peeling off his opponent to get separation only to have the ball somehow bounce off his chest. That was his day in a nutshell.

Neitz 9 in 2002
Oh what a beautiful day this was! Led well, marked everything and his set shooting was at its peak. Was in Level 4 at the La Trobe end, I think Robbo took a screamer down that end from memory? Bliss.

POSTGAME: Rd 15 vs Sydney
Like many of you I was going to give it 24 hours before going into a bit of a debrief. All I could conjure up was the most loony nut-job contributions. Usually this simmers down after a good night's sleep and a new day. Except now, I don't feel any different at all and am still totally lost for words. I can't even comment on what is right and wrong behaviour right now. If you want to be negative, be negative. Positive, be positive. Stick with your membership? Sure. Fry it to smithereens? Go for it. I honestly don't have anything to say about it. As for the game itself, well the ball was bounced, that's a good start. The half a second before Trac got the free kick seemed good, and the grass did a good job being run on before Salem was pinged for holding the ball. And then that was it. Now to get to the bigger picture, this is nothing we haven't seen before. If this could be the aim of playing the game I'd be so happy, if I can just find a way to really enjoy building up to a position where we start favourites and then falter terribly then there will be no problem. Honestly I think this is the only way forward rather than focusing on when to win a premiership and all the excruciating things that come along the way. Let's just focus on being flat track bullies and making extreme heavy weather of anything that might be remotely possible and when the pressure is on just make sure we know how to put that white flag up as quickly as possible. I am getting sick of saying how stupid we are when playing in swirling wind conditions. Why on earth aren't we smarter about this? 45 metres out 45 degree angle, wind swirling everywhere. This is a LOW percentage shot, I don't care if you're Bayley Fritsch or Jack Gunston. We need to be focusing on ways to get better looks at goal. Most of Sydney's goals in the first quarter and a half were from inside 30 with opportunistic crumbing and snaps. Gus kicked his in the first like this. That was where the action was, not out on the fricken flanks. Run. This word is great! It's a really cool word especially in modern sports. You see the action of running means to move quite fast and put 90+ % effort in. You need to do it more! Both ways. They had their 5 day break and 5 hour travel yes yes yes blah blah of course but this team has done this on occasions without these factors. Running is hard but you need to run, no one is perfect but if you can't run for more than 80% of the game then just bugger off back to the ammos or something. It sounds harsh I know but this is yet another 5 unanswered goal stretch. I'd go as far as saying there is a finite number of these stretches left in Goodwins quota. Maybe about 10 left. Fumbling. This team finds new, exciting and creative ways to fumble the football. Gus had the ball in the middle with no-one on him and the moment our hearts felt there was a possible move forward the ball just miraculously slipped out of his hands like some poltergeist. Then there's the decision making, I'll rue this term for a long time. These twerps who think it's a good idea to back themselves when an option isn't on, seriously. What in god's name was Melksham thinking late in the 3rd when there was space in the 50 and he motioned to the middle then faked only to kick it short and wide to a contest in the pocket, and Jones who marked and could have kicked one his many team lifter goals plays on into the mark. People seem done. I don't blame them. From the outside we'd probably get that fickle tag that we know all too well, in isolation maybe these days do happen and maybe the coach does have an excusable shocker but this club and it's fans have been at boiling point for a long long time and no-one understands this better than us. I'm tired, need a coffee.

POSTGAME: Rd 15 vs Sydney
If we were the New York Yankees and Bartlett was George Steinbrenner, he'd be getting the balance sheet out, finding out what we owe certain people, cutting a check then telling them to get the hell out of here and never come back. We are not them and never will be it's apples and oranges, our best bet is to find what we want to be and stop with this follow the leader crap.

POSTGAME: Rd 15 vs Sydney
We are honestly a very dumb football team when it comes to windy conditions and using a breeze. Seriously, a 45 metre shot on a 45 degree angle from Tomlinson was the breaking point for me. These are not 'smart' looks at goal and I really feel like when we take a shot in these conditions our guys are more just hoping for the best than confident. Only shot I can let off was Brown's early one, he knew what he was doing by going right stick but the wind didn't bring it back enough and hit the post. It's akin to wet weather footy in that there is a different way to play it.

Is Mahoney the right guy?
Thank you Lord. Just nice to put another slant on. Is Balme gettable? Could Pert somehow prize Geoff Walsh away from Collingwood? These are the things worth thinking about if this thread goes on and as we get closer to the end of the season.

Is Mahoney the right guy?
Let's say Mahoney isn't the right guy. Who should we be going for to head up the footy department? Would be helpful to hear some names kicked around and some brainstorming instead of the usual potting.

Yay another right guy thread. Is Chaplin the right guy? Is Plapp the right guy? Is the boot studder the right guy?
