COACHES VOTES: Rd 18 2023
Can't really argue with these votes.

Farewell Brodie Grundy
The media seem to have forgotten what comes with making a decision to come to a club like this. It's the chance to play at a club in the window and win a flag. Some will say he could have done that by taking a pay cut at Collingwood but there is a reason that didn't happen and it's mostly Collingwood's fault. The media are now saying that "Brodie could play for 8 other clubs and be no.1". Yeah sure, why not go to Hawthorn and spend the rest of your prime rotting in the bottom 4! Geelong? Ok then, why didn't it happen? Port? Same deal and how many flags have they won lately? Brodie would have been aware of the risk that this decision carried. You make sacrifices, just like our stars that took potentially less money to sign new contracts this season and be part of sustained success. It's actually a credit to Brodie's character AND a credit to our coaching and selection who aren't afraid to make big calls.

PREGAME: Rd 19 vs Adelaide
While his game was great and he got the rising star he hasn't got nearly enough credit for his 1v1 job on Cameron. Charlie had 7 possessions for two goals and McVee saved a couple of certain goals, there was a moment in that first quarter where Cameron beamed off a lead to a reasonable delivery with at least an 80% chance to mark overhead and Judd managed to get enough of a hand to it to effect the contest. I was so impressed because it was an open 50 and he HAD to make that play. If it were Tom Stewart they would have talked about his game on all the shows.

People have been sucked into the smaller picture and week to week stuff, myself included. I still think it looks odd and I don't love the idea of paying a backup ruck 600k but there's plenty of season left to see how this plays out. Brodie would have been well aware of the possibility that things may not fall into place 100% perfect.

Wildcard Round
Why stop at 9th and 10th? How about two games in the bye week 9th vs 11th and 10th vs 12th for the chance to play in the spots suggested above? Extend the season another week, wasn't a problem for Gather Round! More football, more happy! 😝

Wildcard Round
So we'd like to once again become the only league in the world where 50% of the teams make finals. We complain how the season is long and have too many junk time garbage games late in the season but we'd like to have more, not all seasons have the same logjam outside the 8. In MLB you have best of 5 and best of 7 game playoffs but a one game wildcard so there is at least a differentiator. In NBA it's 7 all the way through with a play in tournament which is too many teams as mentioned above. But honestly who cares what I think? I'm tried of hating on something for tradition sake that will probably just go through anyway. If they want to do it they will do it.

Yeah look that is a good way to look at it. It's easy to get sucked into the week to week, the reality is that he will get his chance again. They've played 13 games together, not a tiny sample size but not massive either. We don't know what we don't know and I'm looking forward to when Grundy gets his shot again.

I think the idea was for Grundy to play slightly more ruck time than Max rather than a 50-50 split and we saw that in a lot of games this year. Personally I think 600k a year is decent coin when you could potentially save it to throw at a key forward. I'm glad you don't care what the media thinks and think for yourself, it's a good quality to have as a fan but unfortunately this situation just creates another media circus that we frankly don't need right now on top of the debacle of Clarry's injury. It was always going to be a risk and was always going to be criticised accordingly if it looked like it wasn't working and how long does Grundy need to rot in the VFL before taking over? Damian is allowed to write on this and its not far fetched no matter how much we hate media picking on us.

I don't mind the article and honestly from the outside looking in says what a lot of people are thinking. Bringing in a 29 y.o 2 time AA ruckman on big coin then telling him to go back to the VFL to work on his forward craft just looks weird. Why would you buy a Ferrari then be upset when you realise it doesn't do off-road all that well?
