Maynard must get at least four weeks
Yep I think that's where we're at Macca. The leaving the ground and connecting with the head carries a penalty whether footy act or not. Even the most pure footy act could in rare cases have a 4 game suspension because we want players to be responsible. I said before, if you're driving in the wet and don't take precautions and decide to drive faster and not slower, when you lose control of the car and hit another one it isn't a 'driving act' and you are considered reckless. We have a duty of care to not drive like maniacs in that situation and would understandably pay the penalty because we're responsible for other motorist's safety as well as our own. I think this is now similar, you can fly in the air all you want and yes you'll probably make some great plays doing it, but connect with someone's head and you're stuffed.

Very well said. The sum of parts doesn't quite add up.

I think that's where the mentality is changing. The excuse of not being able to change direction in mid air isn't cutting it now. Responsibility starts at the choice to leave the ground and the fact is that once you leave the ground you have very little control, just like if you choose to drive fast in the wet then lose control and hit someone. That's the message I'm getting anyway.

Maynard must get at least four weeks
Can you honestly say in the 5 years he's been in the job that things have gotten better? I agree, it's time for him to go. Why did they go away from a panel in the first place? Too many chefs in the kitchen or some crud like that?

PREGAME: SF vs Carlton
I went to plenty of games at Princes Park back in the day, while it was intimidating at times it was mostly a tame environment. I also went to plenty of games at Victoria Park, I don't remember one time where there wasn't some kind of issue and leaving the ground was never easy as an oppo fan. There isn't one game I go to where I feel I need to have my wits about me as much as Collingwood games. In comparison going to a Carlton game is a walk in the park.

Goodwin has been here before!
Backs firmly against the wall. One game at a time, we've really put ourselves in a pickle of a situation.

I'm almost done with AFL broadcasts anyway. I didn't even watch last nights game. I dont know what JB said but it's probably not our place to say how he should feel or act in these situations.

Stuff drafting a kid, poach a key forward.
They tried to intimidate us verbally and physically and you'd have to say it worked in their favour.

Maynard must get at least four weeks
Appreciate it Dazzle. It seems as like the people here that want to condemn Maynard feel like they are a united front. Well in the last few hours I've realised that they are actually in sub-categories. There's people who think the main fault is Maynard's choice to jump and leave the ground and whatever happened was his fault anyway, there's people who feel it is his decision to turn inwards instead of outwards and then there's people who are saying it has nothing to do with either of those but actually him leading with the shoulder and causing a 'bumping' act. None of these are bad opinions but they are not on the same page. Oh sorry then there's the ludicrous Space lord stuff like suggesting that a if he's sprinting a hundred miles an hour at the ball carrier he should suddenly be able to jump straight up vertically in the air when he attempts the smother. Another one suggested Maynard took his eyes off the ball, it wasnt a marking contest, how the hell can you tell that when the guy he took out had the ball in his hands right up until the moment he left the ground?? I've been more than happy to hear sensible arguments for why he should go and thankfully there's been a few good ones here who were able to separate emotion and explain their stance rationally and respectfully. I'm not on some warpath to be correct, I'm here to say what I think, hear some well informed good views then move on. Whether people agree with me or not, no-one can argue that this place has been a frenzy of emotional and sometimes irrational jabbering this last 24 hrs. Having said all of this I'm not some Maynard homer and if they are handing out a 4 game suspension I'm happy to see him rubbed out regardless. Thug life!

Maynard must get at least four weeks
I called it a footy action gone wrong. Doesn't mean I think he shouldn't be responsible for his actions. I also never said he should get off scott free. While we're at it (and this isn't directed at you) I understand people feel for Gus and the family but can people pick their words a bit more carefully when referring to his condition and what he might be suffering from? Someone said that Gus suffers from anxiety as a result of his concussions. You do not need to get a concussion to suffer from severe anxiety, let me assure you of that. Please don't pretend that this is some condition that only occurs in freak accidents because it's insulting to people who live with it daily.

I would also prefer to see this sent to tribunal. Needs more judgement than a simple knee jerk
