Our one and only NSW scholarship player Ted Strudwick is listed for the NSW/ACT Rams at Casey Fields today. Other clubs have already drafted some of their boys. Collingwood has about six of them including Scott Reed who is apparently a gun. It'll be interesting to see how our boy goes today.

AN EXCERPT FROM THE DIARY OF CAPTAIN JAMES COOK
Freddy Fuschia replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
According to official records Nicholas Naitanui was born May 4th 1990 - long after Cook's voyaging days were over. -
These people who were at the game wouldn't be WCE supporters hoping to put others off the scent, would they? Rich kicked four goals in his previous game for Subiaco. How many 18 year olds do that in senior football?

AN EXCERPT FROM THE DIARY OF CAPTAIN JAMES COOK
Freddy Fuschia replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
This Captain Cook sounds like some captain. Perhaps with all of his disabilities he might consider captaining a certain football club that's had a long injured list of late? -
THE OPTIMIST - Preview of the Lions game
Freddy Fuschia replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
You and Kiss of Death in the HUN. Hope you're right against all the odds! -
Obviously you're not an optimist like Demon Head who wrote the match preview for the game v Lions.

Like Jolly, he's also lived in Jeff White's shadow at Melbourne and needs to go elsewhere to establish himself. White should be # 1 ruckman at the club for at least to the end of next year.
-
Someone has to be the emergency and Valenti has had a couple of full games at Sandringham so he looks the best choice.
-
Maybe the plain and simple answer is that Newton's knee hasn't come up well after last week and he's out injured again?

Sandy Match Report - Interesting Times
Freddy Fuschia replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Apparently the Zebra ressies were short of players because of last minute changes to their senior team and this would have made it hard for them given Petterd was being eased in on his return to the game. A funny quirk of the VFL reserves draw has them playing Casey again this week so at least he'll be familiar with the type of opposition he's confronting. -
Here's agreat story from the ABC Grandstand Site - HANDS OFF

Aren't the Tigers front runners to get Robert Warnock?

I'm all in favour of playing youth but I also believe it's possible to reach a point where you're playing too many young players all in the team at once and then your youth policy can become counterproductive. You need some experienced hands on the ground and, in the absence of Jared Rivers, I think the selectors saw the need to have Benny as a back up. He's been playing quite well at Sandy so I think it's justified especially in view of the fact that the other youth candidate Stef Martin has just been so so the last couple of weeks at Sandringham.
-
Well, the list of players set out here will be well worth studying in advance of next week's team selection. I can't believe that Bate, Buckley, Maric, Martin and yes ... Adem Yze won't come under consideration this week. Also "Juice" Newton could also come close.
-
Final result a win by 88 with Sautner kicking a lazy 9 and Poyas 5.
-
Zebs by 94 points halfway through the last but Juice has been reported (not much in it though). Reserves won by 4 goals. Trent Zomer kicked 3 goals, Kyle Cheney in the best players.
-
Stef Martin and Michael Newton (if they play well)
-
I wonder if anyone knows when was the last time that both Neitz and Robertson fired together (if at all).

Is there any other football B & F going around where the winner could be decided to one thousandth of a decimal point?
-
Surely, our biggest mistake because it's virtually irreversible at least during the course of this season. We're stuck with most of these guys as team leaders (unless they go off speeding in the cars or get [censored] in public) and we can't change them. That means it might be some time before the rat dies!
-
You see, that's the problem. The point that I was making is that after last week's piddling effort by the players it was necessary to make some changes in order to make a statement to the whole club. You would refrain from making that statement because you ask the question "to be replaced by whom?" So the statement isn't made at all and we continue to languish. We continue to play people who can't perform any more and we don't play the younger players. Jeff White got 28 hitouts and stuff all possessions last week. David Neitz did stuff all last week. We were undermanned in defence last week and could have done with one extra tall. Let's assume they're under advice from the medicos not to play Rivers and Whelan. Does it hurt to give Jamar, Frawley, Chris Johnson and even someone like Addam Maric a go? The worst thing is to do nothing or not enough and all underperformers to keep their place in the side after what was, after all, almost doubly worse than the next effort in the entire competition. Dropping only 3 players suggests to me that a 104 point defeat didn't hurt too much.

I would be even harsher on the brains trust at Melbourne. This was Dean Bailey's chance to send a message to all and sundry at the club about performing to the required standards. Even assuming Moloney is out for the reasons given about his lack of pace, there were three or four others who IMO failed to perform to adequate standards and who should have been sent to Sandringham this week.

What we need is not branding but a removal of all the confusion about our identity. We should get back to being ferocious Demons and put an end to this melbournefc garbage and the silver away strip both oof which lack popular support and are typical of the bland look that characterizes the way the team's travelling ATM.
