All we are certain of is that pick 4 will be out of Cotchin, Masten, Palmer, Morton, Myers and Henderson but is more likely to be one of the first four and either of them will be good AFL players, will they be superstars only time will tell. The difference Morton has from the guys mentioned that we have like him is that he is highly skillful quick and has more upside than Wheatley, Bruce(we know what we have and is good but won't get better than he already is), CJ, Buckley, Dunn. Garland, Rivers, Newton are more set position players that hopefully can hold down CHF,CHB, FF.

You could be right, but I think we have 6 spots left on our list and I'm unsure if we can have another rookie if we only select 5 players for our senior list.

Don't worry about China, the decision isn't about China it is trying to push the Melbourne Brand out there. We will always be known as the Demons, it is just a marketing strategy that our Board and club are taking. Our chairman does this successfully as a living for many other companies I hope it is the right one for the MFC

If he can show over the next 2 weeks the commitment that is required we should use either pick 51 or 64 to get him, that will mean we have gotten two past first round draft picks for really nothing and both at the right ages Sampi at 23 and Meesen at 21. We get 3 good kids with pick 4, 14, 21 and Sampi with another kid late. If we wait until the pre-season Draft we will be trumpt by Richmond or Carlton. If we do we draft as mentioned we will have 25 players on our list that will be at the end of this year 23 years old or under and that isn't taking into account the 4-5 rookies that we will get.

Frawley was only beaten up in games when he was played on small to mid size forwards and that was because he is quick, Whelan was out and Bell missed games late. Once he is played as the key Full back we will then see how good he can be. I think he can be the next Darren Glass, quick, same size has a bit of daring about him and looks to read to play well. The coaching staff didn't want to throw him at the big forwards in 2007 but 2008 he will be and that excites me and our backline with Whelan Frawley Carroll on the full back line and Rivers Bell then one of Wheatley, Petterd, Green, Bruce, Bartram, Bode on the other HBF, they will work for each other and become a good defensive unit. Round one headline, Frawley towels Franklin as Melbourne shoots down the hawks

It's all about branding, we have a chairman that has made a career from company branding and advertising. We need to change this sight from Demonland to Melbournefc land. It is a smart move, as soon as the Roo's go to the Gold Coast the AFL will be looking for a club to get into west Sydney and the next 2 poorest clubs are the Western Bulldogs and now the Melbourne FC, from the names which one stands out. It all fits into this team Melbourne concept, pushing them as the team of Melbourne.

There is only one type of player we will not be using picks 4, 14, 21 to get and thats a ruckman we have 4 on our list so I doubt we will pick another one up. We need a highly skilled midfielder with speed, a KPP forward and KPP Back. It wouldn't suprise me if we got Henderson with pick 4, you can always get good midfielders with later picks and this years draft depth from what I read is midfielders so we should be able to get a good one with pick 14.
-
We should hide him, make him train with another group and leak to the press that we will not pick him up as he doesn't have the commitment required for AFL level and for him to tell Carlton and Richmond he won't play with them next year. Every other big club does this why shouldn't we.

I have an idea to balance out the draw, do your fixture over three years, that mean 66 rounds and every team has to play each other 4 times in that three year period with 6 games balance for some traditional games. Or even still get rid of 2 rounds per per have two weeks of State of Origin instead and over a three year period every team plays each other 2 home games and 2 away games. Without increasing the season to 30 games this is a fair way to do the draw.

You know what we got what we deserved, I'm rapted with 10 home games at the MCG plus Hawthorn in round 1 that members should get in as a trade off for our sold game. Last year we had a good draw for TV and we stuffed it, just means we all have to get down to the footy and watch it live especially our home games. When we can average 45,000 people for home games then we will start to get the draw we want. I assume our Friday night game against Geelong is our actual 150th year game, hopefully we are 14 wins by then and we get 85,000 at the game.

Haddrill, to old for what our recruiters have stated they want to achieve, CAC has stated that he is looking for players under 23yo so we have a core group of young players that will come through together over the next 5-7 years. Anyone 23yo and over unless they are a gun will not be looked at.
-
Just what we need Benny going out with Col Sylvia and Brock Mclean and leading them into the world of no return. The only club with a mature enough list to cope with Ben Cousins is Sydney, the only other clubs stupid enough to get him are Collingwood and Richmond.

Every chance next year

When you draw under 20,000 against two interstate clubs at the MCG, there is every chance the AFL will act on that. Don't be supprised if this year we play Port and Freo once both away which the club would be happy about. We will then have Sydney in Sydney and Canberra, Brisbane at the Gabba, one more trip to either AAMI or Subi and if the posters here are correct one at the Gold coast. I actually have no problems travelling as long as we get homes games at the MCG against Collingwood, Essendon, Carlton, Hawthorn, Richmond, Geelong, St Kilda, Western Bulldogs and Kangaroos, that should give us a home attandace averaging above 40,000. With one game against West Coast at the Dome and of course Sydney at Canberra(which we should play at the MCG and play an SA or WA team in Canberra) A direct outcome from the draw is free to air television, don't be supprised if we have under half our games on free to air and it could get below 10 games.

It's on the Melbounre website as done deal

I don't know about him making to many tough calls, the only one was TJ, the other players that have been delisted would have been anyway. One thing he is doing is looking at strenghtening our weaknesses, first the Ruck we have 4 ruckman on our list hopefully one of teh young three can step up, but the competition for a spot will be there. Thats what we need players competing for their spot no automatic selections, you have form you get a game.
-
Every year, every year there are players picked late in the draft that out perform early picks.
-
We have all identified the holes in our list, one was a ruckman, we now have 3 young ruckman and White, we have two years for Jamar, PJ and Meesen to step up to be our No1 Ruck. Secondly are two key post CHf and CHB, do we look at Rance and Henderson And last we need skillfull, fast midfielders to complement our hard young midfielders we have now. I think pick 4 should be used to get depending who is avaliable one of Palmer, Masten, Ebert, Cotchin or Morton all see to fit what we need. IMO this is the way to go get one of these guys, I will leave it to CAC and Bailey to decide.
-
And in 10 years what have the players that have been around for that period acheived 1 GF apperance in 2000 and since then our teams performances has been like riding a roller coaster. We have made finals but never been a premiership threat, we are getting rid of one of these senior players, this will not effect our performance in 2008, but it might in 2010.
-
TJ was put up because the club wanted another first round pick. Besides the players 23yo and under he is the only player we would get this first round pick for. If we secure one of Palmer, Morton, Cotchin or Ebert with pick 4 we adding quality to our upcoming young midfield in Mclean, Sylvia, Moloney, Jones, Bate, Bartram in a few years our young midfield group will be the best in the competition.
-
Handy defender, worth a look at but what do we offer for him, when the Eagles offload Judd they will have pick 3, 13, 20, 30 maybe we can offer pick 21 for Graham and Eagles pick 30. The Eagles will be done in the National draft by the end of round two.
-
What Garbage, we don't know what we will get. It could be garbage but it could also be a very good young footballer. We think he is a big player but does the rest of the footy world, I think he is an good AFL player but no star and we have a good supply of honest hard working midfielders. You can't be safe all the time sometimes you need to take some risks to move forward, they might backfire but they also might turn out to be gold. CAC has stated he wants more early picks and IMO I think Brad Green is worth a top 30 pick and if we want more picks and Brad Green is the only player other clubs are interested in and we can get what he is worth we take the trade. I wish it wasn't Brad Green but he seems to be the one with some interest.
-
I am a Melbourne supporter and I want the club to have every chance to win a flag. Our current list of senior players have had since 2000 to do this and really what have they acheived since then? Don't give me the line of we have played in finals in 4 years out of 7, we made up the numbers, we haven't been a premiership threat. We have some big holes in our list that needs to be addressed and the only way to do this is by making some tough calls. Brad Green wouldn't have been my choice to put out there but other clubs are interested in him.
-
We all rate Brad Green but we are not going to get a first round pick for him. IMO he is worth a top 30 pick and I think if you can get that take it, he is no match winner, he is honest hard working but no star. If we want to get more picks and players under 23 like CAC has said you have to have a honest assessment of what a player is worth.

TRAVIS JOHNSTONE - WHY WHY WHY???
drdrake replied to Jonesy is the next captain's topic in Melbourne Demons
Because he is the only player on our list that we have the slightest chance of getting a first round pick for if we are lucky. We need to inject further youth into our list and we want two first round picks this year. I doubt any club will give it up for him.
