From what I believe exams start mid to late Oct and are finished first week of Nov. You will have a study week before. Watts will train not all sessions but I would expect him to be in the weights room at least with a few runs to keep his fitness, Blease the same but his recovery form injury is his goal. So neither will be to far behind when they start full time training. Managing their workload to minimise chance of injury is what the club will closely moniter, same with Strauss. What would you expect next year from these three Watts he will spend time in matches in that key FF role but expect him as a HFF, form and health permitting he will play 18 games Blease and Strauss if their bodies are right and form is good you would expect 8-12 games each The nex draft picks Scully 10-15 games Assuming we go Trengove 15-20 games(he is already playing against men) Pick 18 I wouldn't expect much from this pick assuming we get a tall.

I agree, my post was based if I was in his shoes that what I would be thinking, if he doesn't 2010 is his last at tis level. It's bloody hard to get drafted, and he could be one of those players that AFL is over by 23 and he will go and dominate country football somewhere for $800 per week.
-
He has to think, Robbo gone, Jurrah coming on but more of a medium size forward, Watts more than likely to be played regardless and more a a HFF than FF, Miller more a CHF, this FF spot is mine for the taking no more second fiddle. I need to work my arse off and make that position mine, I want to be a 50 goal per year AFL Full Forward in 2010. Does he think like this, if he does he may prove us all wrong, if he continues in what we see a very lazy approach to his football, 2010 will be his last AFL season.

In Order Sylvia he showed this year what he can do, he has the ability to be All Australian Wing/HFF, it is up to him Frawley he took a big step this year, next year he has to take that key full back role, this guy can not only be a very good defense FB but his attack is also very good, I see him turning into a Brian Lake type FB Grimes stay fit you are our Luke Hodge great ability to set up play Mclean he needs to be that general in the midfield, he needs to start to dominate Davey hopefully can set things up a bit closer to goal, got to many easy touches accross half back he needs to get the footy so he go put it inside 50m Jurrah and Watts I put these two together because it is important to the club to get these two playing as many games together deep inside 50m

Doesn't Jolly have a premiership medal, he is a high quality ruckman, it's a shame White couldn't play as a tall forward.
-
Any player that is forced to retire when they believe they still has something to offer will be upset. Robbo made some valid points, our forward line next year will be very inexperienced, but unfortunately for Robbo we need to get games into these guys and whilst I agree with him he could have offered something to our young forwards we need these young forwards to play together so they learn how to play together. From a recent DB Article he mentioned that was his goal to get our younger players to play 18-20 games together so the learn a bit about each other. Robbo has been great, but he didn't help himself on a few occasions with body language and his lack of defensive pressure which saw him dropped a couple of times. In a year that you know could be your last at the club you just have do what the coach wants you to done, not what you have always done in the past. I'm sure he would of had a few good things to say about the club, but nobody wants to read that. Good luck Robbo I hope you do continue to play somewhere, you have given us over a decade of exciting football.

I thought it wsa strange that Newton was the only senior listed player to play for Casey last week and coming back from an injury only reasons for this is to prove t othe club he is worth keeping or prove to other clubs he is worth picking up.
-
With the tall defenders we have, I actually thought we would offer him a rookie spot and delist him of our senior list. If he wants to go home its a shame as he doesn't have any trade value.

I supportered the Perth Demons in the WAFL and played there for many years, when the Eagles killed the WAFL, just when I started playing for Perth, I never really followed a VFL team and I hated the Eagles so the Melbourne Demons was the team for me. Unfortunately, the two Demons side have a lot in common, both had dominent clubs 50' and 60s, nothing since, I think the Perth Demons last flag was 1974.

Boak is a very good midfielder, what that deal does is give us another quality mid and then a chance to get at a good tall with Pick 8. We may get Trengove or Morabito and they may be better then Boak but will when you combine Boak with a good key forward you need to consider. This is the only way we get pick 8 if we want it.
-
Offer pick 2 for Boak and pick 8, through in a fringe player if needed. That is the only way we get pick 8, we lose pick 2 but iwould be happy with that. Port might consider to get Trengove

11 weeks to go
-
North Melb must be think Hay, Thompson Hawthorn you got us there. IMO Gibson is worth a third round pick, North will ask for first and get second, Pick 25 which is fair enough.
-
He is not going any where, put some quality outside midfielders around him and he will star.
-
go in chronological order Norm Smith No 4 Jack Watts, Ronald Dale No 31 Tom Scully, Neita No 9 Leave open for one more year.
-
I have just changed my mind on pick two, I didn't realise Morabito was that big, he is pick 2, say he grows 1 more cm 194cm 90+kgs quick he is the one. Would look good in our forward line Morabito Bate Sylvia Jurrah Watts Aussie He may be the best key available, he is the right size.

Stuff the docklands, we need to be apart of the Southern stand redevelopment. The club wants to strneghten its ties with the MCC, a few months back we signed an agreement coming back as a section of the MCC, there is no reason why we can't get further office space a social club, Gym our own change rooms with top shelf recovery facilities at the MCG. Training accross the road at gooshes paddock is OK the current Oval that Collingwood use has a great surface, we will get this Oval if we want it, I'm sure we can walk accross a bridge. This is option 1, get the MFC at the MCG and the Southern Stand redevelopment is the ideal opportunity. Our Board from day one has push that our home is the MCG, we helped build the MCG, Docklands is a smokescreen, the Southern Stand is the target.
-
I'm interested to know why Newton was the only senior player to play for Casey on the week end. The two rookies Zomer and Valenti I can understand, IMO both won't be at the club next year, but Newton is a strange one, I believe he is contracted next year maybe he had something to prove.
-
The Bubbledome is a good option, we will have a good oval to train on once the Pies get Olympic Park, shared Gym and medical facilities. I'm sure the club is in talks with the MCG to increase office space when the Southern stand is developed. We have just signed an agreement with the MCC, the club has stated it wants to be a part of the MCC, the Southern Stand development needs to accomidate the MFC, Social club, our own change rooms in the Southern Stand, which we could of had but they are substandard at the moment. Say no to Docklands, this is Robert Doyle trying to get us away from the MCC, don't fall for it.

With out going into delistings, I would assume we will have 7 spots to fill Trade Week We have 2 targets Boak or Dangerfield, pick 2 is on the table but Adl or Port must give us their first round pick. I don't really think we have any player to off load, the ones we want to keep are the ones other clubs want, not our bottom tier players. Port may look at this trade to get Trengove which I'm happy for them to have if we get Boak and pick 8. National Draft 1. Scully 8. Best Key Forward available 18. Key Forwader 34. Small Defender 50. Monster Project Ruck 200cm+ PSD 1. Pearce(Port Adl) If we come away with that, I don't know enough about the kids to name players, I would be rapt It will add 3 midfielders Scully, Boak, Pearce 2 Key Forwards, important to get 2 incase one doesn't develope 1 small defender 1 ruck

Cant kick, no thanks, we are going to be linked to ever player that wants out, unless yuou are are gun you are not coming to Melbourne.
-
Don't pick up duds from other clubs, target someone but players that are offered up by clubs are offered up for a couple of reasons, they want to move home, salary cap issues or they are no good. Objective stay away from the ones that are no good, target high quality young Victorian players on interstate clubs lists. If we don't trade no lose

Melbourne-based clubs secure more money from MCG in new stadium deal
drdrake replied to QueenC's topic in Melbourne Demons
The MCC gave us a special hand out this year, basically this secures that 1 mil every year. Stuff docklands, I have an idea but it will never happen with the MCC gaining control of the parklands, wouldn't it be great if they developed a training oval on the site where the first game was played just outside of gate 3/4, this would give the MFC somewhere to train, kids to kick a footy, with the development of the Southern Stand allow for increased office space up the Punt Road end for MFC and a social club. The only issue is you will lose space for parking lest say 500 cars/match @ $10/car the MCC will lose about 250K pa of revenue from doing this. If the MCG trust takes the revenue for the parking from my estimates would equal around 15mil PA just from AFL parking -
I had the chance to watch Essendon and Hawthorn this morning, I dislike Essendon but I tell you they have some very good young KPP coming through. It was scary I hate to say this they will be very good over the next 2-3 years, in fact they will be the ones that I think now will be peaking just before or around the same time as our list. We are still missing KPP , we have Rivers, Frawley, Warnock defenders only Essendon Pears, Hooker, Fletcher Martin, Garland may switch hit forward and back Essendon Hurley, Daniher Watts, Newton, Miller Forwards Essendon Neagle, Ryder, Gumbleton, Still So off a list of 39 senior players we have 8 KPP, IMO you need a mimimum of 5 playing per game 3 spare and two of the forwards have been around for a few years and still find themself at Casey. In two years if Watts gets injured who plays as a tall forward, if Watts has a form issues or can't put on weight, we need a second tall option, if Butcher is the best tall forward in the draft we have to get him. IMO the game is evolving again and it is going back to needing key forwards, you watch the finals the St Kilda(Roo, Kosi), Geelong(Ottens, Mooney, Hawkins), Collingwood(Anthony, Cloke, Rocca), Adelaide(Tippett, Henschel), Brisbane(Brown, Bradshaw), Carlton(Fev, Cloke, O'Halphin), Essendon(Hurley, Neagle), really only the Bulldogs won't go into the finals with at least 2 key forwards.

All I know Rhino is for the past three years our injury list has been long, how many games have our best 22 played together over the past three years, it would supprise me if it was more than 6 or 7. That comes down to conditioning and preparation. I believe he came from a sprint coaching background, from memory I think he coached Steve Hutton to win a Stawell gift in the 90's.
