I hate this time of year, and I'm sure Casey supporters will start to think here we go again, the Melbourne players get us to the finals but don't play in the finals. Aaron has been a laugh this year, I don't know how bad his knee was but some of his efforts early in the year the limp came out, then the footy was there the limp was gone. Got better over the past 6 weeks and in all Aaron got better still a long way off Aaron's best. It is getting to that stage that the main priority for required players will be having them fit to start pre-season. We had to many in rehab prior to Christmas we need to ensure this doesn't happen this year. It wouldn't supprise me if we don't see Liam Jurrah play this year, we know the pending court case might determine this, but even if this goes well I think the club is preparing him for a full pre-season.

When you have been as bad as we have for 5 years and not really showing much you have to expect people to give us whacks in fact you need the media to give us whacks to make us a least semi relevant in the AFL. Look at North or the Bullodogs no one cares, they play bad or something happens with in the club good or bad it is news for a minute. Melbourne for all the crap we have put up over the last 5 years we have kept people interested, the media have covered us, all good and bad news plus good and bad performances have extremely good coverage. You have to agree with Dermott and Greg, we haven't unearthed much this year, McDonald is a highlight, Magner started with bang but hasn't done much for the past 6 weeks, Clark has been great. There has been injuries and we know this but our young players haven't come far from last year to this year, we have a first pick Forward playing back, a second pick midfielder that can't run, a pick 4 midfielder that can't hit a target and other early picks can't run a game out, can't stay healthy or just can't get enough footy. Add to this the B&F rom last year can't get a kick, the Captian from last year can't kick goals and the All Australian Ruckman continues to palm the ball to the same spot and has little presence around the ground.

Billy, the guy played under 10 games last year, like Couch was often in the Casey bests, the played 2 or three games for Melbourne and was close to our leading possessions for those games. Evans is more than a runner he can play, hopefully he can stay fit for the balance of the year and remind us all how good he is.

Don't mind the ins, Petterd needs to show something over the next 8 weeks. There are a lot of players that we will see over the concluding 8 games that the club needs to make a call on. You add Green and Petterd to our forward line both can take marks and on their day kick multiple goals. Would like to see Gysberts back but we need to give Bennell, Bate and a few others opportunity to earn a spot on our list for 2013. Would like to see Bennell play off Half Back leave him there.

Are we preparing to give up our draft picks?
drdrake replied to Hampton 22's topic in Melbourne Demons
You also need to take into account the Western Bulldogs, they will finish 14th giving them picks 6 and 7. -
If we offer up pick 4 for Martin can we on trade him this year? For example trade to Fremanlte for David Mundy and Fremantles first round pick for Martin and our second round pick. Or for Port if there is an Adelaide Kid, offer Port him for Boak and swap pick 6 and 13 so we get Boak and pick 6 they get a kid and 13.

Cloke won't be a Demon, and if by the very slim chance he is he doesn't cost us any draft picks. I think we are playing cat and mouse with Collingwood, Cloke isn't our target we are trying to squeeze another target out.

It's all about who we want to get and there value to our club not their current club. Is Boak worth pick 4 to most clubs the answer is no, to us our midfield is that bad he would be on par with a Nathan Jones who is our best midfielder by a mile, you would love to get him with pick 13 but that isn't going to happen. No matter what happens with our 3 first round draft picks we will get 3 players that will be considered first round picks be it Viney, Boak and pick 13 or Viney and picks 4/13 or picks 3/4/13 or a 17yo 3 and 13, no matter which way you use these picks we will be adding three players that should be high quality. My Ideal senerio is Pick 3, pick 5, Boak, Viney and two third round picks, swap first picks with port and give them pick 13, get Boak and third round pick. -
Becuase both Dunn and Moloney are offering very little at the moment, at their best agree with your comments but in particular Moloney his form this year has been extremely bad, he needs a rocket, he needs to find confidence he needs time at Casey. To me playing Dunn is looking in the rear view mirror, we need to give Cook a taste, we are crap playing Couch and Cook won't make us any worse.

Agree Old Dee, when we lined up on Saturday I thought our coach was playing forwards as backs and backs as forwards, then I thought all year our midfielders have chased the footy around like under 9's and then bang it hit me Mark Neeld's game plan make it simple under 9's footy the only issue I had was they didn't swap at half time. I would love to see Watts back forward, play him on the spud at his third club. My forward line can kick goals with Howe, Green, Davey, Watts, Martin and Cook it would be a hard forward line to match up on Howe and Green can play tall, they mark the footy well all players except Davey can rotate through full forward plus push up high half forward and all besides Cook are dangerous when the ball hits the ground. The only issue is can we get it inside 50m for these guys to kick the goals.
-
And get it 30 times, we need to add players that can get the footy
-
Don't think so, struggling with the role Neeld wants him to play, being the number 1 midfielder at our club for the past 2-3 years he hasn't had to worry about his man, now he does. Either that or doesn't want to be at the club anymore

To me the first quarter was one of the worst we have seen since 2007. This game was there to be won, we posted after round one about our footballers being dumb, not much has improved. To me Sylvia and Jones are our only 2 midfielders that would get regular games at other clubs, including GWS and Gold Coast. To me we have added to our talls that look OK, Clark, McDonald and Sellar have been good for us this year. Our midfield we have seen 1 new player in Magner that after 2-3 rounds hasn't played in the midfield. We may be lucky this week to add Couch and Gysberts into our midfield but below them there isn't any options. Blease is restricted to our forward half, he just can't ran through the midfield at present. Moloney needs a couple of weeks at Casey to get some confidence, McKenzie needs to throw the footy on your boot when in trouble inside your defensive 50m arc. Trengove isn't right and is spending more time up forward and little time on the ball and Grimes has been good in the midfield but also looked done on Saturday. The next point is Jack Watts, I thought Jack was OK on Saturday considering that whoever he played on took him straight back to the square. The issue I have with Jack down back is the run, he doesn't offer any run of half back all his kicks are deep in defense and he is usually standing still. If he is to play this role he needs to offer run off Half Back and be kicking to our forwards or at least to the middle of the ground. To me we need to switch him back forward.

What is a sad sight is Brent Moloney sitting with 3 votes, what has happened to this man?
-
Have to say that Saturday was one of the worst games of AFL football I have ever been to, it was in slow motion. We were bad very bad and changes need to be made, my line up Strauss Frawley Rivers Nicholson Garland Bennell Blease Sylvia Couch Howe Watts Green Davey Cook Martin Fitzpatrick Jones Grimes McKenzie Gysberts Tapscott Morton In Morton, Gysberts, Cook, Davey, Green, Strauss, Couch Out Bate, Dunn, Bail, Magner, Spencer, MacDonald, Moloney I want to go to a game and watch our first round draft picks from the past 5 years play in the same team, they all seem to have reasonable form at Casey.

Richmond's Dan Connors and Dustin Martin in trouble
drdrake replied to GawnWithTheWind's topic in Melbourne Demons
take our 6 that are out Clark, Green, Davey, Jamar, Jurrah, Jones and that is why Richmond should beat us even if we get Jamar and Jones back we still have 4 forwards out. Unless Watts goes to full forward and kicks 4 or Steph has a day out I don't know where our 14 goals to win the game will come from. -
It's not Magners fault but for our team to improve it has to come from Strauss, Blease, Trengove, Jurrah, Gysberts, Tapscott, Watts, Howe, McDonald and McKenzie, if the majority of these guys can't start to deliver good footy on a consistant basis we will not see the massive improvement we are hoping for.
-
Long way out but my team wold be Bartram Sellar Frawley Garland McDonald Strauss Grimes Sylvia Trengove Howe Watts Blease Martin Clark Jurrah Jamar Jones Viney Moloney McKenzie Gysberts Tapscott

Play Jack Viney at Casey in '13 so we get picks 3 & 4.
drdrake replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't think some people on the site realise how bad our midfield is, our midfield is the worst in the AFL, our midfiled depth we had Gysberts playing at Casey with Couch that is it we need midfielders all types Viney is a required player at Melbourne along with two to three other midfielders, if you could play him this week he would get a game, he will be as good as Mark Murphy. -

drdrake replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
If Jack Viney was on our list today he would be in our midfield playing each week. We are all concerning ourself over nothing, Jack Viney will be drafted by Melbourne whenther we are forced to use our first round pick or not. Our midfield is severely undermanned , Nathan Jones has been great, Grimes has been good and McKenzie has done some good stopping jobs apart from them the rest have struggled. Viney fit and well plays round 1 for us and will go close to winning the rising star next year, -
Old Dee, watching from the TV it seemed Brisbane attacked from Half Back, they always seemed to have numbers behind the football and when they broke free there was a lot of space in front of them. Being at the game was this the game style they played leaving Brown, McGrath and Merrett up forward and the rest working from Half back. It just seemed on TV everytime we went into our forward 50m arc it was 3-4 loose Brisbane players to our one forward or is it our players went to the contest getting more around the footy and the Brisbane defenders just picked off our incoming kicks and attacked from there.
-
Cull isa bit over the top, any given season most clubs will turn over 6-10 players including rookies, and most will make 4-5 changes to there senior list. We will be on the high side 5-6 on the senior list will go, Spencer, Green are two definates, leaves us 4 more one of Dunn or Bate will be gone, Jamar and Davey both turn 30 next year both will go onto the veterans list freeing up 2 spots, another 2 will be either delisted or traded who they will be only the club nows.
-
Agree with this. also add that Brown had so much space in front of him no one could stop him. The mark at the top of the square OK he was to strong for Watts but we had players there that should of filled the space in front of Brown.
-
We will play finals in 2013, Neeld and Co are just working players out, throwing different challenges at them to see how they respond. It would have been easy for Neeld to switch Dunn and Watts back to the forward line but he didn't their education on certain aspects are more important, same with Howe we could of left him deep forward but his education as a midfielder is a priority. Look at our best 18 posts from the start of the year I had our forward line as Green Clark Martin Howe Watts Jurrah, Only Howe and Martin spent limited time up forward.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY
drdrake replied to einstein251's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yep we will and Jack Viney will still be a Demon next year
