  1. I'm thinking I'll place $100 bucks on the Dees to beat Richmond. That way I'll at least have something to be happy about If we do win.

That is a Fantastic Idea, a True each way bet. Thanks for the tip!

  2. Commentating is a Tough Gig, if you want to be Good at it. Breathing, Rythm,Painting a continuous Picture etc.

I Admire her for having a crack. That said she is just not cut for it. But if Channel 10 Pay Andy Maher they will employ anyone...

  3. I never thought the day would come, but I definitely have 2 teams to follow now. However, my admiration for Liam is such that I would love nothing more than for him to kick the winning goal against the Pies next year!

RudeBoy...Welcome to the Melbourne Football Club. If you want L.J to do that you cannot Barrack for that Evil organization anymore. You have Changed. THE BAND!

  4. I also don't believe one or two wins more than 4 this year will somehow have a dramatic positive impact on the future psyche of the playing group. Wins right now are not that important. Competitive efforts are. I do believe however that the coaching staff manipulating the gameplan in order to lose would not be good for the playing group.

I would sit the Entire Playing Group down & tell them the whole List Management thing. It's for the betterment of the club, A real Crack at a flag. It's no secret. Players can still play Hard.

    It's the Big Picture Scenario

  5. they now what there doing, this topic reminds me of one that all us hardcore fans were worrying about at the start of the season, THE SPONORSHIP DEBACLE, remember that everyone, the clubs in good hands. ;)

Yes but we Stuffed it in 2007 (Thanks Riley) I don't want the same to happen again. Particularly giving Talent up to Wet Coke.

  6. Hi all,

I wonder what fellow posters think of the fact that we are so close to going over that magic 4 game barrier this season. So I ask you what would be the repercussions for the club in terms of membership and support if we relinquish these picks?

Would you throw in your membership

    Not support the debt demolition

Surly if we are to loose these priority picks through the shier idiocy of pining for 2 goal losses then there will be major drums beating at the club. Personally I agree with that curly haired, mono browed champion of ours Garry Lyon when he suggests 4 games should be the limit.

I will back the club, But if we lose High Draft Picks for a few cheap late season wins-I will put the Entire Club under the Microscope. They Better know what they are doing. That said Whenever I hear Cam Shwabb speak I know everything is running Smooth!

  7. Why is Emma Quayle picking on Melbourne and only Melbourne?

Fremantle is playing without Pavlich and Sandilands, WCE without Cox and Kerr and Richmond without Cousins and Cotchin.

    Enough said.

I agree, the AFL should Look Closely at Wet Coke. That Club is so Dodgy. But of course they won't. Makes me sick.

    2005 Runner Up

2006 Premier-Player Sacked for alleged Drug use.

2009 Tanking for a Priority Pick

    STINKS

  8. As a recovering gambling addict, one thing I know Fev needs to be, and that is, honest with himself. I am not saying he has a problem, but I know all too well how out of hand it can get and get that way quickly.

I started betting on sports in about 1998. To begin with it was small bets, at least, realitvely small, $20 here, $50 there. It soon became alot more.

During a six month spell in 2004 I lost $21,000. All of my life savings with about $8,000 worth in credit card debt. I'd like to say I finally came to my senses, but in truth, I just ran out of money and couldn't get my hands on another credit card.

$21,000. Maybe not alot of money to some. But to a guy who was earning about $40,000 a year, it was alot. It took me a few years to pay off the credit cards, and of course, paying off the interest is a horror.

It got bad. I started taking days off work so I could sit at home and bet on the horses or whatever sports were on Foxtel and ESPN. I was staying up nights on end in front of the computer and the TV. I was betting on leagues I knew nothing about. Rubbish like European basketball and various soccer leagues. Whatever was on TV.

The wins were met mostly with mere relief, while the losses were agony. But I couldn't stop myself.

I won't say there weren't highs. I remember round 14 2002. If you ever want to jazz up a Sunday afternoon, get stoned, throw $2,000 down on the Dees to beat Brisbane in Brisbane at odds of $4.80 and watch the boys come back from 5 goals down at half time to win the game. I was out of my brain.

But then there's the losses. I had some big losses. $5,000 was the biggest. Just dumb bets. Probably the dumbest though was back in 1999. I was still going with relatively modest amounts at this time, maybe a few hundred here and there. Round 10 Friday night against Fremantle. The Dees were $1.15 to win. It was a lock in my mind. So I put all of my rent money which was around $600 on the Dees to win, to grab a mere $90 profit. Of course, Tony Modra kicks 10 goals and Freo wins by about 9 goals. Total f$%# up.

I say I am 'recovering' because I still wrestle with it. I've had issues with addiction in the past. Alcohol, various drugs and gambling. When I was younger I got bored of drinking, so added drugs to the mix. Got sick of that so added gambling to the mix. In short, it's a dangerous cocktail.

I still struggle with it but fortunately I have developed some sort of resistance to the urge. An example was the other week. I still take an interest in the odds for the footy (I know I shouldn't it but I like numbers) and I saw the Dees were opening at about $2.16 I think, against the Eagles. It looked good to me. So I think 'ok, I'll throw $20 on it, nah make it $50'. Before I know it I'm thinking $500. But I pull up, I get terrible anxiety thinking about it, give myself a proverbial slap and think better of it.

I rarely drink now. I smoke a joint once or twice a month. And gambling is something I will rarely do. Every now and then I'll go in a $10 FootyQuad with a mate. That's about all I'm interested in. To think of anything more fills me with awful anxiety. And I have one credit card with a $500 limit which helps guard against any stupidity.

Having a great wife helps alot too.

Anyway, like I said, Fev needs to be honest with himself. If his gambling is escalating from $5 games to $50 games to $400 games, then he would want to be careful it doesn't soon become $1000 games and so on.

    Anyway, that's my cautionary tale.

Did You Hear the Ox tell his story to Francis Leach on SEN? If not get a copy & Listen to it. He Lets it all out.

Fev aint a bad Bloke in Reality-Last week he gave a very sick 9 year old 2 Tickets to Disneyland courtesy of "Make a wish".

You should have seen the look on that kids face, Put a tear in my eye.

  9. I'd like to see the following play in the last 6 rounds:

Valenti - Give him 4 or 5 games to prove himself before delisting

Newton - Even if it's just more entertainment value

McKenzie - Give him a taste like Grimes last year

Cheney - Deserves a spot with his consistent performances

    Watts - Obvious choice

Spencer - Depending on form coming back from injury

    McNamara - See Spencer

    Players to make way

McLean - Is clearly hampered in some way, give him a rest and let him start preparing for 2010 now

Robo - Love the bloke but he isn't the future

Wheatley - We all know what he can do, let him continue to build confidence at Casey.

Grimes - Don't get upset, it's just about making sure he's cherry ripe for next year. He had a late start to the season due to injuries, we know how good he can be, let's just manage his work load this year to ensure no further flareups.

Bate - Not because he's performing poorly, just to rotate the forwards with Newton & Robo

McDonald - It won't happen because he's our captain but it shoudl for all the reasons stated previously.

It's time to put the cue in the rack, play with numbers behind the ball, play them out of position and have Newton at FF. Any player who needs surgery do it NOW!! I hate this stuff but we need to put ourselves in the best possible position for next year.

Email this Post to Bails & the Footy Dept please. For the Long Term Future of our Magnificent Club.

  10. And Andy Maher shouldn't be allowed to commentate either. But atleast he isn't inside the commentary box so we don't have the problem of trying to watch the TV coverage with him going for glory.

He often Does SEN though. It's just so Bad!! Before the Game...AAArgh Just crawl into a cave Andy & spare us all your Bogan Twang.

It gives this country a bad name!

  11. I cannot for the life of me understand why Cheyney isn't in the team every week. When he has played he has been very very good. But then Bailey sends him back to Casey.

What more can he do to get a regular gig in the team? It's frustrating for me, so god only knows how Kyle is feeling.

Casey is like The Classroom for these young Boys. They are learning how to win very nicely.

I beleive our Football Dept is doing a mighty Job this year. Casey should play Finals. That is Great experience.

Personally i would bring in 1 or 2 kids a week to the seniors & Rotate them. Don't want the team to get Smashed.

But give the kids a "Taste" of the big League so they know the Requirements over Summer.

You Wait. Jack Watts will shine over summer. He now has Felt the workload of both Playing & the Pathetic Venom of Fat old Journalists who expect instant Success.

Trust Bailey & the Footy Dept....I am (just Don't win more than 4 games)!!!!! & that will be my christmas Present to me!!!

  12. I'm with you there, why you little, but I'm probably a little biased, as I dislike Carlton immensly. ;)

Don't Worry Adam I Hate Those Phuukz with a passion filled with Bile! Mark Riley really deserves a late night visit by a few thousand Demon Supporters.

    He Shafted us Big Time.

  13. Think we should take a punt on this kid from the Western Jets U/18 side, Majak Daw. Some will remember there was an article in the paper about him a few weeks ago that was posted here. He's an 18 year-old Sudanese forward/ruckman, around 197cm with HUGE leap and exceptional pace. Smokey with unlimited potential. People who know him rate him as just as good a chance to make it as Nick Naitanui. Serious athletic ability and the boy can play too.

Have seen him play live for the Jets once last year and in that match saw him take a big pack mark and make some great run-downs. This year he has consolidated his spot in the Jets team and has been improving rapidly. Along with his great leap and speed, has got pretty good skills too. Huge pack marking ability. X-factor written all over him... Long-term project player, definitely worth a punt with a late pick.

Wow Imagine that Dude & L.J. Prowling the forward line. I like it.... Can He kick Straight & long?

  14. Perhaps, so, but taking Brendan Fevola off against the Pies, when he was smashing it up in the latter part of 2007 was certainly tanking.

Exactly. I remember that day well. Made me sick in the guts. In Round 11 They Smashed Port Adel & then did not win another game for 2007.

They Managed their "Tank" to perfection. Then Riley went to work for them after coaching Melbourne to an unwanted win.

Carltank wrote the Modern day book on the Art of Tanking. Still think our young kids are better than theirs though.

We need that Gun Midfielder & the new Gym Facility

  15. Bruce's last month or so have been excellent. He had an ordinary game, he wasn't the only one.

McLean's last 2 weeks have been good. I would wait until he has a pre season if he is playing like this next year then we have major problems. He should be rested now. It's absolute madness for him to keep on playing.

Bruce & McLean played well over the last 2 weeks because the opposition was soft.

Last Saturday Cam was quoted in the Hun as saying He didn't believe in Tanking or Draft Picks, regardless of whether this was perceived as selfish. Fine, but Cam that means against TOP Opposition you must play your best games of all time.

He didn't, & although i would never question Cam's endevour i doubt he will ever be damaging against the Top Teams again.

I hope he does, but it will only be with the Help of Top Draft Picks.

Will be interesting to see Cam's Role next year.

  16. * She talks with an unpleasant bogan twang that should never be allowed on Television or Radio. A male would never be allowed to commentate with a similar accent. This is my biggest problem with her.

Personally I thought I could do a better job.

I hope never to have to listen to her again…………… well at least until she polished up her high pitched, bogan accent.

Andy Maher has a shocking Bogan Voice, & he is allowed to warble on...

  17. I think the tactic of getting smashed in the first quarter and then being competitive for the rest of the game is the best. At least you get something out of the game and there is no awful moment when you don't know what to think e.g whether you barrack for the win or hope they lose. If you notice west coast are very good at the bad starts in quite of few of their games since their season was shot, game is over by quarter time and there is no qualms about blatant tanking in the last quarter.

Yes Richmond certainly hit the anchors after Half Time Didn't they!

  18. You guys have to be kidding if you think there are no kick-in tactics used. Anyone who has ever played Australian Rules is able to tell you that various different kick-in options are practiced over the preseason. All we are seeing is a teams inability to carry out a set play.

Good lets Keep stuffing it up for the next 6 weeks & then make it no 1 priority at "Clown School" over the pre season. Only 6 more weeks!!

  19. Back on topic... None of these things are gnus... or any need for major concern, besides perhaps the Brock thing.

We know JMac is done. Robbo could very well make way which would only really be a good thing, as his influence is only going to go downhill from here if anywhere. Bruce is playing some of the best footy of his career (despite today), Y_M as usual has it completely backwards.

No need for any concern!!! You are Joking aern't you, or are you happy to watch another 10 years of Mediocraty? I am not prepared for that & will not accpt it.

Bruce was average today regardless of what the AFL Website printed.

    We needed a Top Game.
