  1. What is a winning culture? How's a fifth win against a side that's managing their own list going to create a winning culture? Does an extra win make a significant difference to a 'winning culture'?

How'd that 'winning culture' work out for us in 2008, after we took five steps towards developing a winning culture the season before?

How about Richmond's 'winning culture' this season, on the back of their great run in the second half of 2008?

I Totally Agree with your Points. Trouble is i don't think we are the 16th placed side in the comp with 7 rounds to go.

The Young Kids have improved quicker than what we all thought would happen.

With Whatever number(s) we get in the Draft we must recruit the Best Midfielder available.

Scully i fear will be long gone as the 2 W.A sides & Sydney have given up the chase, while North & Richmond are just Rubbish.

We are somewhere in the middle, but i don't think 16th.

If by some miracle we do end up 16th with the 4 wins. I will be going out to Party so "uckin'" hard.

    The world better look out!!

  2. Agree! Would love it if Todd came back and coached us to our next flag!

Would be a great, romantic story, of a former club champion and captain, serving his apprentiship in several different assistant roles, before coming back home and bringing us lucky #13.

I am quite Happy with Bailey, I just want Todd to teach our Midfield. But yes one day maybe todd will coach.

  3. I can tell you one thing that's pretty well a certainity. Jim Stynes will make RR and Hannabal look tame in comparison to his reaction if this team wins more than 4 games. The only reason I remain confident of only winning 4 games is that Jim is in charge.

Well we will have to wait till thursday team selection to find out, But i agree with Y.M. on this one. I think we could easily win 7 games all up if the team is allowed to play.

    Lets Remember one thing.

The Guys Playing the Midfield now may not Particularly WANT a new Young Midfielder to compete with for a spot, so quite a few players are going to play well if they are selected, to save their own Bank Balance.

  4. Call me strange but I still think we'll get the PP. We played our hearts out last week and Port played one of the worst games Ive ever seen them play and we only won by 11 points. It will come down to the Richmond game I think, On paper they should give us a bath and they haven't been playing to bad of late. I dont think we'll beat North as we never seem to play well at the dome and North aren't playing to bad either.

Guys we're not a very good team, we've beaten West Coast at the G on the back of the Stynes emotion and Port who didn't even turn up.

I genuinely hope you are right but i think we are improving Rapidly. I wish the season finished last sunday personally!

  5. Choco was tanking,

What a ridiculous statement..His players may have been tanking, but choco sure wouldn't have been. He is still to sign a new contract & a Finals Berth is still there to Grab if his pathetic team can be Bothered.

Choco would have been Filthy at Days end. I hate Port. They should never have been granted leave from the SANFL. Shame on you Oakley & Jackson Shame on You.....

  6. I'm pretty certain that Jim Stynes sat at home on Sunday and said "will someone please think of Scully!".

yeah im sure he would have been doing that, and when he meditates and while he fights for his life. All you can hear from him is his cries for scully. Your love of scully is demented, At the moment you can get $3.50 for fremantle to win the spoon. Put some of your hard erned on the dockers and you cant lose. If freo get the spoon you can use your winnings to buy a tom scully figurine which you can take home and get your mum to knit a little melbourne jumper for. How good would that be!

HaHa! That got a good laugh at work, Thanks man!

  7. B - Robertson Newton Hughes

    HB - Jamar P.Johnson McDonald

    C - Miller McKenzie McNamara

    HF - Bail Whelan Cheney

    F - Bartram Frawley Warnock

    R - Valenti Zomer Spencer

IC - Bruce Buckley Dunn Jetta

That's the Team Y.M. you got it!!!!!

  8. Brilliant Stuff Liam You Make Walpirri & all us Demon Supporters so Proud.

After some really Tough years we are going to Rise with peole like you leading the way.

Liam Plays his Football either on Red Dirt or The MCG the same way-Simple. He Gets the Ball & uses it.

Whether its Round 3 or a september Final i believe the Walpiri Wizard will play the same way...simple. Any opponent that picks him up better be strong and Mobile.

Last week against the Coke Eagles i watched him move around for a whole Quarter. Never stood still.

May you play some great & Inspired football in the years to come Liam. You are a credit to yourself & your people........

  9. I definitely got that feeling too... They mentioned the word tanking, and he went on about playing players i different positions and giving the young blokes ago, almost as if they accused him of tanking...

I think Bails may be on the ball here, he still doesn't have total control though...

No he doesn't, Nor does the Club as a whole. The Players running around the Paddock on the grass. Taking the Hits & Kicking the goals have the Final say.

Which basically makes all our discussions on here a load of HOT AIR!!!!!!

If we get Scully we shall deserve him. If not somebody else will & that is the Pure Fact.

It is hard to see the Shockers winning anything after Saturday's effort in adelaide..

  10. I wonder what these boards will be like if the cats do us by 15 goals

I will be ok with that, I think the cats will Fire Right up, apart from Tom Hawkins. He is a liability that the cats will rue in september, thus i will laugh!

  11. The Moment Jimmy Stynes Handed his No. 37 Guernsey to Junior McDonald I believe we said Goodbye to the Wooden Spoon & the Priority Pick.

At The Start of the year I stated that i Hated the Idea of "Tanking" Still Do BUT after reading up on the GC17 Situation & how they will Rape & Pillage Talent for years to come, i was prepared to suck in some pain this year for the long term beterment. It still may happen but i doubt it. That No. 37 represents too much to the players who are playing NOW-not the kids of next year.

I can only see us winning one game if half our side is rested playing for casey. That i doubt will happen.

The No. 37 means too much.....

  12. I agree. Stop using the emotion of Jim Stynes.

It's equivalent to "can someone please think of the children"

The Players are using the emotion of Jimma, i have no doubt. I believe this whole "tanking" scenario rests in there hands.

Over the last few weeks the Goal Posts have shifted.

We can hypothesize & argue on here for hours, but out on the Ground those boys now Really want to win.

So do you Put Jurrah & Frank Grimes etc back to Casey or do you let them play.

This is the question of the next 7 weeks????

  13. Ok, this is a complete long shot but if we beat geelong this weekend would you pro-tankers still want to put the season to bed and lose every other game?

You have to remember that most young lists break out seasons have been kickstarted by a late season charge the year before (St. Kilda, Western Bulldogs, Hawthorn).

I still think we are a year away from that happening but you just never know what winning confidence can do for a bunch of kids.

Whether we win games before the end of the season or get Draft picks it is ENTIRELY in the Hands of the Kids on our list Now.

They will determine the outcome-And they will have have to deal with it next year

It is out of our hands....

  14. There are so many threads on the one topic I'm not sure which one to post in.

I watched Bailey closely when he was on 'On the Couch' last night and I came away thinking that he's going to try to manage the best scenario for the club's future. He said all the right things from a PR perspective, but he also added that he's going to keep playing young players, as well as putting them in different positions as an education process, etc. I just got a very strong feeling that he knows how important it is not to win even though he couldn't say as much. Perhaps I was the only one that sensed it.

As for beating the teams you refer to; the Swans will want to win. Roos knows the Swans can't afford to be non-competitive due to their unusual market. He also doesn't place as much importance in draft selections. They've got a very staunch leadership group that will walk over hot coals to win. I'm not too worried about that match.

Richmond has a caretaker coach who'll be going all out to reverse their loss to us in round 4 as well as impress in his role. They'll be a different propostion to last time and are starting to find form. They could've beaten Carlton if it wasn't for Fevola. I'd back them to win against us.

North should be too strong at Etihad and Crocker will want wins. They're already on 4 wins and I doubt they see themselves in pp territory. And in a shallow draft one more selection around pick 20 isn't worth tanking for.

Freo will be hard to lose to.

And we're also assuming that none of the other teams on 3 wins will jag a win or two. We all play each other.

I still reckon that Scully and the PP is well and truly within our grasp.

I hope you are right Hannabel-i really do, but ithink you underestimate the "Jim Stynes" Factor in all this.

The Players WANT to win, & that is real hard to stop....

  15. Take out the tanking articles which will continue to go on unitl the end of the year or until we win 5 games which ever comes first. So other story's positives looks like we get a Darwin game next year for 400K, an additional 100K per home game at the MCG 900K(looks like we will still play a Canberra game) and another rising star.

Hopefully in two years both home games away from the MCG will be in Darwin and we get the NT Government as our short sponser more $$$

Our club is going forward regardless of what draft picks we get both on and off the field.

I heard cameron schwabb on SEN this morning, the club has set an internal agenda towards the Drafting issue. I was a fan of te "4 win" policy but over the last 2 weeks i wonder whether youcan slow down kids enthusiasm for another 7 weeks. I doubt it.

This club will rock Regardless. Do it for Jimma....

  16. This isn't an ideal scenario but IF we get the 5th I want more than that.

Finishing on 5 and 17 would make me sick.

So if we do ge the 5th, I hope you're right.

I wanted 4 wins Like you, But it aint going to happen.

We can beat Richmond Swans North & the shockers. Remember they don't realy want to win either!!!!

It will be a fascinating last 7 weeks indeed.

  17. I don't understand why so many people are complaining about the fact that we are discussing the "list management" or "tanking" issue.

This is the dominant story for YOUR FOOTBALL CLUB. The actions of the match committee over the next 7 weeks will define our next decade onfield. It is as simple as that. If you don't want to discuss it, pick a thread out that doesn't discuss it.

But for me, and a lot of others, this is the overriding drama that will engulf my life as a MFC supporter/member for the next two months.

Garry Lyon put it best, and I hope we can get it on YouTube, to replay it for those who are struggling themselves with this difficult issue: his head says no more than 4 and his heart wants wins, but he knows that his heart will be gladdened all the more when we are that much better thanks to the 2 picks we need to get.

(I have already said that I see a very bright future for the players we already have, but the opportunity that presents for the club I WANT TO SEE WIN A FLAG is undeniably attractive and within our grasp, and could be the difference between top 2 and top 4, or top6 and top 4 etc.)

I am very knowledgeable about my footy when I rock up to games, and I hate the feeling of going to games in September and knowing that we have little chance of winning the flag.

    It's deflating.

    It hurts.

It hurts more than tanking. Or 'list management'...

I agree with your words but i don't think its going to happen. This team is going to win more than 4 games. We the supporters have just got to suck it up.

We are so much better than the Shockers & that is a fact.

  18. Criminally underrated is our Matty Warnock.

Pick 26 in the Rookie draft of 2004, and amazingly has played just 35 games so far!

Which just proves if we do not get the No 1 Draft Pick next year it may not mean the end of the world. Good players are still out there. Matty Warnock is a gem.
