  1. I have followed Melbourne since 1970- we have a chronic "Losing" culture that has to be addressed. I don't blame anyone but it cannot be avoided.

St.Kilda, Footscray and Geelong have the same problem. Everyone at the club has to be put on notice-I thought we could challenge for the flag in March!!!! Look at the train wreck that has followed.

The players have been giving there all-i can see that, but its not good enough. Why???? Is it our lack of training facilities, lack of "social club Home" all of the above

What Robbo said in the paper was correct-don't just blame ND Blame everyone-The whole club musst have a clean out. Look at the Kangaroos they have beeen on a shoestring but they will not lie down- we must find that Recipe or else we shall not survive. I am Sick and tired of accepting 2nd best

  2. M53

    Reserved seating

Biggest bunch of toffs I have ever come across. It was embarrassing to be a Melbourne supporter today. The fools in that section whinge and moan about anything. I almost blew my top when I stood up for 10 seconds to put my jumper on and some guy behind me told me to hurry up sit down. I almost belted him. Absolute loser. If you are reading this, grow some balls you pathetic sliver spoon Brighton toff.

Melbourne supprters - WORST IN THE COMP.

Even though I am a member, I will be sitting in General Admission from now on with the real footy fans.

    {Mod Edit: Y_M, you have just returned from suspension. I would watch what I write if I were you!}

I sit in the members and yell my guts out-don't generalize. Everybody is [censored] off at the moment 9 losses is hard to stomach for everyone

  3. Sadly we have no chance-Even without the injuries our club looked atale and slow in round 1. Before everybody jumps on my back, Let me say this-We do not have a winning culture at this club. It's been too long. How we get it back i am not sure. If this club does not get ruthless soon we will die. Look at last weeks attendance. I don't blame the players or officials, its a whole club feeling-The joint is stale and needs a total Rennovation. Victorian clubs are just making up the numbers-thats an AFL Fact. Weat Coast get Compensation for Cousins!!!!! How dare they. How do we compete with that????? Sydney who went broke Numerous times are now leading the pack while Victoria is being Sucked Dry. Call me Cynical I don't care. I am watching the great Victorian Icon be taken from us and i am not happy. No we will not beat sydney tomorrow-the team will fight and have a crack but that will be all. Hope i am wrong!!!!

  4. "Melbourne returned to wearing the Dark Blue Jumper" - absolutely!

Also: round 1 of finals (118 pt win over North in our first final in 23 years), round 2 of finals (60 odd pt win over Swans, showing Gerard Healy that while he said he left us so he could play finals, if he'd stayed he could have played in WINNING finals...)

I will always remember sugar and Gerard walking off the ground arm in arm together thinking the same thing. "Gerard you missed out"!

  5. For what it's worth, 7's coverage has been less than average so far. The Ox said today on SEN that come Round 1 the wrinkles would be 'ironed out'. He's quite aware the telecast is ordinary but what we get seems to be at the mercy of the producer and a dumb wish to look better than 9 no matter how poor the result. Relax guys, you've got the rights for 5 years. In the meantime, 10 does it way better. Disinter Ron Casey.

Footy in the 60's 70's and 80's on 7. it was mighty. Lou Peter Landy Jack Edwards Mike Williamson Bluey Adams Ronald Dale Chimp Skilton. The Replay was fantastic.

Well 7 you are pale now-it's just sad..i know it's only practise matches but i can't see myself running home to switch on 7. They spent all there money buying the rights, it's obvious. Kerry Packers last dying wish was honoured-he knew he was going to lose the rights as 7 had the final call so he took down his opposition in the process. 5 years of tired old presentation here we come

The overhead shots are just too high- Bring 'em in about 30%

    Channel 10 is fine

  6. The highs and lows of 1987...

    Highs

1)VFL Round 22 (Do i need to explain)

    2) U2 released The Joshua Tree.... (classic)

    3) The Comedy Company (hilarious....very dated humour though)

    4) Pat Cash wins Wimbledon

VFL Round 22 (Do i need to explain)

    Lows

    1) Jim Stynes (do I have to explain)

    2) Andy Warhol died (genious)

    3) Oliver Stone beating David Lynch and Woody Allen at Oscars.

    4) Carlton

Great Reply Ricky (A Most underrated rover and very handy goalsneak)Jackson No 45 in those great Northey years) Ollie Stone wasn't that bad-he has always been bagged unfairly i believe-but i agree on all other points

    I will add 1 to the high's

    5) Melbourne returned to wearing the Dark Blue Jumper

  7. I was only 2 years old at the time- so i dont remeber anything, thanks guys for bringing those memories alive to us who where very young at the time

Hey to all you guys who were too young to remember the Northey years try and hunt down some of the mentioned games from "Name a game" or whatever it is now. Although '87 was the year the ABC covered the footy as there was a dispute with 7 and i know that a lot of those tapes do not exist anymore as i have already enquired numerous times-The club may have some copies '87-91 were good years

  8. 1987 is now 20 years old. The year we broke the drought for Robbie Flower. ok we stumbled at the end and i am not going to mention Waverly again, but lets re-live those great memories of storming into the 5 Yes it was a 5 back then!!!! I knew Melbourne supporters who didn't want to make the finals. September scared 'em!!!! Me i couldn't wait to soak up the vibe & crowds, Those first 2 weeks at the G were Heaven, So was Round 22 at the Western oval

John Northey was a fine coach

Re-Live the past, Who was there???? Who was listening to kardinia park result on the tranny whilst at the western oval (Remember the Roar)!!!

20 years ago Who remembers it like last month???

  9. Hehe, he sure was! Me and a few mates are having a DVD night this Friday to relive that match

in its entirety now its available on DVD from the club. To think that was 20 years ago is staggering,

I remember it like it was yesterday! I think it was called the Panasonic Cup by that stage...

1987-20 years ago WOW The year we got the Dark Blue Jumper back and played Finals Footy for the first time in 23 years. I will take those memories to my grave. 20 years!!! Go demons

  10. Yeah I forgot about Hamill he maybe tough but a good game for him would be about 5 possessions. The media definately has an obsession with hard players.

Can't agree with that one. I Hate Aaron Hammill but he is a good player when he is injury free.

Back in 2000 when we played Carlton in that beautiful Qfinal For 3 quarters Hammil murdered us all over the ground-Late in the 3rd Q he ran head first into a Pack & knocked himself out. He didn't play the Last Q & we all know what happened.

Matthew Richardson is truly overrated. Plays 1-2 blinders a year. But is usually average. or is it his team??

  11. .

I agree with your analogy of Robbie F & James Hird. Pity was the Teams Robbie Played in were very poor-and he spent a lot of time playing in that AWFUL light blue Jumper.

I was so glad with what happened at Footscray in '87 (still my Favorite Saturday afternoon ever at the footy)The week after wasn't bad either. R Flower Starred that day

Pity He never won a Norm Smith-The entire crowd would have cheered.

    Ahh well that's life

R Flower is a True Champ-Read his book
