  1. A most insightful post Few defensive cattle left. Not impossible, but difficult to get consistent pressure and structure from kids. Bailey played the MFC game through 2008 and 2009 to get some picks. Only fair to give hime time to develop the team. I'm not convinced he has no game plan, a, b, or c. I do know his team is not ready.
  2. No reason for clash jumper against Saints. There were times each team handballed directly to opposition. Standard strip would have been best. I can't believe this rubbish. If AFL want to control this, then build a matrix of acceptable combinations for each team, so MFC don't just run out with a "St Kilda" jumper on like they did last week. If AFL don't want to control this then everyone should go back to always wear standard strip with light or dark shorts, like Collingwood do.
  3. Stuff the thread title, as an old pr$ck I'm impressed with this post; with the video, etc. #^%$ing technology, eh!!!
  4. Point me to some of your reasons, old feller.
  5. Correct. Need to nurture high draft picks. There was a reason they were drafted so highly. A couple of backward steps during the learning phase is normal. Sylvia's history is an example of "I'd rather he played for us, than them", even with his patchy aggression and sometimes unaccountabilty. No-one will seriously consider cashing in 192cm 21yr 3mnth, midfielder/forward/free defender Cale Morton. He'll be back!
  6. Equal tackle to Trengoves. Slung same way. Great tackle. Player hit head on ground but apparently not concussed. Play on was the call. 2 weeks.
  7. Let's face it folks... tweets are public domain. No difference really with mainstream media except it cannot be controlled with a licence fee by AFL, Government etc. And let's face it, it is more immediately communicative than mainstream media and has a massive effect on community attitude. It can, and does, create revolutions (ref middle east) I agree totally with freedom of speech, as a general democratic rule, but just watch the AFL come down on this one, with a vengeance. I think rightly or else anarchy may reign within our game. Players are contracted within the AFL. Player issues can be worked through the players association. Club and coaching issues can be worked through the AFL.
  8. Pulled this old thread so as not to create new one, and it can sink to the bottom again, but; I love Frawleys statement in the context of "Melbourne"; http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/melbournes-james-frawley-avoids-heat-for-netball-reference-in-jack-trengove-tribunal-tweet/story-e6frf9jf-1226053928169 “I thought my mate played for the Melbourne Demons ... not the Melbourne Vixens!!!" I view this as a 'connection' and not a derogatory remark. A connection with all that is MELBOURNE.... Vixens.. Victory.. Storm. In fact everything that is not, for example "Collingwood".
  9. Commit, sign a contract, or remain "injured" for the remainder of the year.
  10. Take Dawes and Cloke out. Then what?
  11. Yep... MM is all the rage. He has created nothing. Collingwoods "round the world (boundary) approach" and forward press has been happening for years. They finally found, and trained players who could pull it off. Seriously, can Mick do that at MFC? Give me a break!
  12. Lovely man. Absolute gentleman. A partial Demon,in fact. He's already popped his cork. No fizz left.
  13. I'm so happy if this is true. Anyway, in these days of huge expensive football depts and line coaches, how much success or failure can be attributed to the senior coach. Over rated! Remember when Mark Thompson and Alistair Clarkson were 'dead men walking'. Did the pie-eating Bomber Thompson finally click after 8 years? Success is a FD team effort running the right cattle. The buck may stop at the senior coach but really, what percentage of the results are truly his. I suspect the 'flood', 'rolling zones', 'forward presses' etc, were established by 'FD committee', initially as a kitbag of plans. By the way, who's that bloke coaching Geelong at the minute? You know, the one who has a twin bother at Nth Melbourne? We should get him.
  14. We don't need to canvass the possibility of making a play for him because we don't need a new coach at this time. Maybe the reasons people support a club may have changed over time. There's something distasteful about chasing a premiership Collingwood coach to try to do the same for MFC. Call me old fashioned, but that's my view. I would love a MFC premiership coach to be an ex MFC player though. Malthouse? Yuk.
  15. There are a lot of new posters/demonlanders, mainly very young. I think they're boring some of the old smoker's stand guys, and even the young smoker's stand guys, most of whom would rather all Melbourne supporters fit within that MCC facility, certainly not the outer, not to mention the old guys whom are 'in', perceptibly inside the MFC, and then those who are deluded and think they are. I don't come along to Demonland much these days, but I'm just an ordinary country supporter. I'm not even hysterical about win/loss happenings. I do the games and enjoy being a Melbourne supporter, but the 'inside' experts here are too much for me, and the newbies? Well, bless them.
  16. Common sense approach to rest these young guys who have played 9 games in high 'milage' positions, then the added Darwin expenditure of both physical and mental exertion over an extended and differing lead up to last weeks game. Why [censored] the young guys at cat park when we have seasoned warriors rested who can take their places. Scully, Trengove and Jordie deserve a rest. Too much to expect them to play more than, say, 18 games, this year. Especially given the racey game plan which warrants world record interchanges. I'm comfortable with the Club, both on and off!
  17. Everybody on this board needs to take a long, hard look at themselves, and perhaps consider euthanasia. As for me, I'm back baby, well and truly on that DEEvelopment bandwagon...
  18. Drove down to the Brisbane game from Wangaratta last Saturday with my family. First game I have managed to see this year given the 3hr trip down. Horrendous rain storm on the way had cars parked along the side of the Hume Freeway. Difficult trip. Got to the G with our packed food, thermoses and blankets, and we barracked forcefully all night – didn’t swear though. It was great to sit with 34,000 like minded fans in the outer. We sang the club song before the game was finished. Then 4 times more before we jumped off the bandwagon and made our way back to our car for the 3hr trip home. We’ll probably see a few more games before year end, depending on circumstances. By the way, fourkings, I mean 4jacks, you don’t have a mate!
  19. Every drunken escapade makes him money... bad publicity is better than no publicity. Coleman medalist again. Has done more for the Carlton forward line than any other person this year. Good for sponsorship also, I suspect. Carlton made finals due to Fev. Yeah, I think I like the Fevolenko. And I still like Brock who will be jamming them down his throat next year.
  20. Our young players are taught from a young age to keep their head over the ball. Fair enough. I believe this differs from expectation that a player dives in head first to a 50/50 contest on the ground, at high speed and from varying directions. Self preservation used to apply so a player would live to fight another day, or in another contest. Players who are not prepared to make this ultimate sacrifice are labelled, shirkers, or even worse, cowards. I believe this expectation is bordering on blood lust; The herioc gladiator in a fight to the death for the benefit of the spectators. How many of we fence supporters and journalists would be prepared to do the same, ex footballers included. If every player is to become a Glenn Archer then the statistical risks of severe injury increases enormously. The recent facial injuries to our Brad Green, and now Alex Rance should indicate to many that this play should not be expected, or else, fit them up with Gridiron helmets as a duty of care. Otherwise it is only a matter of time before we begin seeing severe Neil Sachse type injuries; career ending, and potentially fatal. It doesn't excite mums and dads to take their youngster down to auskick either.
  21. I've never been supportive of not trying to win games, and I'm still not. In fact I can't see our boys winning more than four. And we can try out a lot of young guys this year. Blood them for next year, on. As a member who has gone through as much heartache as anyone else, I can live with this year being a year to work up the game plan and the boys, so a real tilt at finals and flag can be made in a few years time. I'm not an inner member of the club, or even close, so I don't get any feeling for future strategy. But I can go the distance required to get the best picks at years end in the last uncompromised draft. We will have 30k plus members this year, and if we get the right draft picks at years end we will have even more members next year, and the game will be on!
  22. The North Melbourne players mini movie was in poor taste, but that's all. I suppose the club had to come clean in the way it did, but I think their cleansing outrage is a bit over the top. I'm not particularly young, but I got my wife to view the Youtube video and give me feed back, unprepared by me. She felt it was in poor taste, typically testosterone laced and based .... but not overly denigrating to women. She believed it was typical male adonis strutting peacock ritual. She felt the music, which was not recorded by the Nth Melb players was probably the most denigrating part of the whole show. Can the players be blamed for that, other than for airing it? Also we all know Adam Simpson, for one, is a genuine nice guy and family guy, and not one to denigrate women.... or chickens. Anyway, the whole thing is an over-reaction in this day and age. Compared to some AFL and NFL player acts, this is extremely low on the Richter scale. We hope the AFL and Nth Melb footy club do not run this issue harder than it needs to.
