  1. Thats pretty funny steve_f. Not many people, including players have been clean and sober for long enough. That's life, but I'll back Brock as generally a sound, sober, clear thinking citizen, who has great values as indicated by his love for the club, both financially and at heart, and with total guts on the field! A model for other players, and a ready leader of men! Great news! The colour blue used during our great era, 55-64 would be magnificent!
  2. Oh I don't know.. It could be because he is a young individual drafted by MFC, as well under father-son rule, and has had 4 years or so of expense and development shovelled into him. Showed a 'glimpse' later this season? Voted in this forum in top six players in quite a few matches. Will this kind of outcome, ie lost for no return, continue in future with our young recruits? Will Carlton continue to be allowed by Vlad to rape and pillage and supplement their cap through suspect means? Could be worth another page or so... <_<
  3. Any way they come thanks HT. Oh, by the way, some of the suggestions I advocated on these boards did get raised at the summit, some by you. Thanks again.
  4. I know 45, one day my strange sense of humour might be understood without these; And perhaps I should use better tackle in future..
  5. Because they can kick footies incognito. No-one watches state cricket at the G, let alone training, so no damage done! Of course we, the MCC, open the gates during matches, but nobody comes, and that's the way we like it. We don't want anyone messing with the hallowed turf and that includes looking at it. You have no idea how much damage a child can do if he or she happens onto that ground. Listen, we are one of the few grand stadia in the world to have real grass and nobody, but nobody is going to put a foot on it. Besides it is so peaceful gazing across the vacant hallowed turf with a glass of fine wine........ what was that Eddie?
  6. Shaft, I been painted elsewhere on these boards as a tautologist, or even an oxymoron (sic), but I don't understand this sentence.....
  7. I think we don't want the negative spin from the club, that's all. It is unhelpful, unprofessional in a sporting environment, and yes, it promotes mediocrity and a basis for copping out. Don't give me crap about simply telling it like it is. Sometimes its wise to shutup and get on with it, even if it's hard or seemingly impossible. Correct Nugget! There's some pragmatism in the ranks here that smells of cowardice. Let's roll along with the winter plan, as long as I've escaped the missus for the afternoon, and I'm in the stands with my mates, doing what I've been doing for the last 44 years.... bring on another comfortable winter! How wonderful life is!
  8. Telling us members, sponsors, supporters etc, that we will not play finals in 2009, is not something the club should say, realistic in their minds, or not. In my whole lifetime I've never been associated with a club with a defeatist attitude in regard to the playing group. Was it not Tom Hafey who coached a Collingwood side from wooden spooners one year to grand finalists the next? I'm sure you bubbleheads would have other examples if you wish to delve. Don't sit back on your pragmatic, business planned statistical curves, and tell me what a warm body or 22 can or can't achieve! Or, if you're that sure the club you associate with cannot achieve on the field, then stand aside, or better still become a Collingwood member.
  9. I'm beginning to warm to you, pringle. Moderators... lock this thread!
  10. Good to see St Kilda taking a backward cultural step. They might win some games though!
  11. It's great to see you people still have your wits about you this time of the year, especially Rhino who got it right and gets a gold star. Now back to the thread..................
  12. Agree with CB. I have not heard or read the comments, but if true it sounds a bit like Terry Wallace 5 years ago for Richmond. His setting of low expectations has certainly saved his hide, and they won't win a flag in the next 5 years either.
  13. Nick Davis to Brisbane? Geez, Dees, that'll be scary. Cousins may be another story, but we don't know if he can play unenhanced.
  14. Sounds [censored] hot. No rectangular-stadium or whatever the f it is supposed to be that many people donated tax deductible money to. God knows why, it's a rectangle, ffs! We truck out to Casey for some summer training, which will require no real community integration, or investment hopefully, given we are heading full bore for the G. While this is happening, we stuff 50 admin staff into a space for 45 at the G. The growth potential here is astonishing! Then, in the winter, we invite our players to come to the G to train, but 'hop' over to Gosh's Paddock to have a bit of a run around, because the MCC will never allow those players onto the sacred turf. Meanwhile the MCC may continue with a stadium deal which will send us broke because we will never consistently pull 50k to a home game, and if we did pull that many, we would still be broke because we still would not close the financial gap on the 'TV' teams. This is not negativity, some people just have their heads up their arses! Carry on..
  15. I accept tautology but not oxymoron.... whatever.
  16. This is what I got out of it.. "If there are any additional nominations received for the Club’s Board, a postal ballot may be required". What's the problem?
  17. We know what happened , so why not speculate? This guy said the job was; "... an offer too good to refuse. I was really impressed by Jim Stynes, Cameron Schwab and Chris Connolly. They took me into the CEO's office and the boardroom at the MCG. I was a bit star-struck by that anyway, but they were open and honest with where it was at," he said. The appointment notice is still on MFC's boards. This says loads about Oswald. He bailed out for whatever reason, probably starstruck, do you think?. His credibility is zilch. MFC had the wrong man, we're lucky he's no longer here. Accept that and move on.
  18. 5 pages indeed. We need this information for future analysis of CJ's form, and who are the forum [censored], or who are the wisest and most knowledgable. You can't do that on a paper napkin. Read it and weep!
  19. Mate... you're, you're, you're bordering on oracle status. Love your work....
  20. Better to have a lockout, knowing you are making a fortune, than shut large portions of a stadium because you don't have the gate to utilize it. Geelong are extremely efficient at the moment. No excess, no waste, and their ground is hell for their opposition for the exact reason to which you allude. There also is little pressure on them to fill the large stadiums when they play at them. Kardinia Park is their meal ticket.
  21. I have pulled this across from the casey thread as it has prompted a thought/idea. If the stadium deal we get with the MCC is not good enough to generate desired gate income, is there anything the MFC could engage itself in to utilize the MCG in other ways, that could then be negotiated to subsidise the stadium deal? Ridiculous examples might be; The MFC in association with the MCC sponsors concerts, business conferences, APEC summit... etc etc.
  22. I think Geelong has been making money recently because they made the investment in their ground to accomodate more people comfortably, and after doing the calculations on gate takings, and in particular at Doshlands, asked the AFL to draw them at Skilled Stadium for as many home games as possible. The Doshlands was helping to send them broke, similar to us at the G, where 30k gives us some pocket money only. For the record, Geelong's home game average attendance for 2008 was 29474, only topping Nth Melb 27667 for Vic based clubs. Melbourne's home game average for 2008 was 30,777.
  23. Yep... then we can have 3 cheer squads!
  24. Indeed, we are all just supporters, and I love every one of you Demons. I'm not attempting to promote negativity here, just discussion. I do not have any ready answers to the issues I raise, I am not slandering anyone, and believe it or not, I don't have a problem with MCC or MCC/MFC members. I believe the Casey arrangement is the right way to go, but we should go further and tie ourselves into that community. We need to get Demons involved at grass roots level, auskick and schools. We need to invest in the demograhic. We can still do the MCC/MFC/MCG thing.
