We were smashed at the stoppages. The Bulldogs scored directly or indirectly from alot of the stoppages. I think from the stats it contributed to 8 or 9 goals to the dogs. We need to be better in this area, and the ruck is a major component as in hitting to advantage. Looking forward to seeing a bit more of Spencer and Jamar when he's been given an opportunity.

What is best for Melbournefc? (get back to this later in the post) I know we can only control our own destiny, however with respect to Richmond. Are they in denial about re-building? Is Wallace still wanting to make the finals? Is the last 24 hours about the teams resolve in still striving for finals (despite being 1-7); as well as keeping Wallace on for the season? Has the board backflipped under pressure from the players? Maybe the board has given him the chance, until finals are mathematically an impossibility. Ie. 11 losses. I may have mentioned after Wallace survived after Round 4, that the board would not move until the split round. ie Round 12. Clearly, there is unrest. It may also have something to do with obtaining the best possible new coach. Ie. Nathan Buckley/Leigh Matthews or Kevin Sheedy. There would be many forces at work here. Including that of Assistant Coaches such as Wayne Campbell who has the respect of the players. Either way, I wouldn't mind Richmond staying put with Wallace until the seasons end and striving for the finals. At least a few wins in the next few weeks by Richmond should suffice. After all that might be what is best for Melbournefc. *Note: edited

Sheesh, relax. He wasn't a standout on Saturday. He'll get a nomination. Patience.

Maybe it was Mark Robinson who came to that conclusion, who may have been itching to grab the first exclusive, but simply jumped the gun by putting two and two together. When he checked his additions, it added up to 5? Too late the first headline went out. Must note the current article is 'staff writers' now. Not sure regarding The Age. Sportal had "Wallace walks". Maybe it was left to the players devices to determine if Wallace to see the season out? As RR has pointed out, the vultures are certainly circling off the field. So too the paparrazi now. The players will be in deja vu, this time however it has nothing to do with Cousins.

The title of the thread does state, "Almost a year on." What's a month or so! Not bad all considered. Here's the threads that determined the above collective Demonland side, if you are interested AdamFarr: - Collective D'Land Team thread PREFERRED 6 MIDFIELDERS PREFERRED 6 BACKS PREFERRED 6 FORWARDS Interchange Bench

You guys are on the same page, so too Hazy. Maybe it has taken me until now, to see through the smoke and mirrors. If there is some truth to 'grand standing' or 'making the place look ordinary prior to arrival', it's disappointing. Particularly whilst spruiking a unified club and togetherness, on top of our off-field achievements to date. IMO you should keep looking to the future. I respect your posting and I've enjoyed this thread. I hope this issue hasn't damaged the MFC. I can't help but think there maybe some underlying scars from this, that may one day re-appear. I hope I'm wrong. If Coglin really had the club's best interests at heart, was Melbourne's leading selling paper the Herald-Sun his only option to achieve what he set out to do? I agree with Hannabal here, he pulled the wrong rein IMO. Equally, is Stynes stubborn enough to not retract his statement once the facts have been brought forward before him? Once more, I've enjoyed this thread...now it's time to watch the Tigers eat their own.... edited.

No real surprise there.

Thought I would re-visit this. Cast your mind back to July 2008. Below's side listed was named as Demonland's nominated best side for 2009, after votes were cast on best 6 backs, best 6 midfielders, best 6 forwards, and interchange/emergencies. As you can see in bold, those who are in the side at present or would be in if injury free.(ie. Wonaemirri, Garland, Jamar?) Note* - The side voted on did not include 2009 draftees at the time of voting. Chris Johnson is at Carltank and struggling. BACKS: WHELAN WARNOCK GARLAND H-BACKS: RIVERS MARTIN C.JOHNSON CENTRES: GREEN MOLONEY MORTON H-FWDS: DAVEY BATE ROBERTSON FWDS: SYLVIA MILLER WONAEAMIRRI FOLL: P.JOHNSON McLEAN JONES INT'CHANGE: C.BRUCE S.BUCKLEY S.VALENTI M.JAMAR EMERG: J.GRIMES C.BARTRAM J.McDONALD NOTE: M.Newton just missed out on Emergency List. We're pretty much on the mark at Demonland...

Taking it one week at a time here.

St.Kilda on 30,368... :D

It was a great mark of respect. I agree with the moments silence, rather than a minutes silence as was announced. It lasted a good 25-30 seconds (maximum).

The following is a list of players who have really impressed me with their footy to date this season, for different reasons. Most of them I would have written them off at the start of the season thinking I would have seen the best of them*, or simply outstanding performances to date to take their game to another level#. Others such as Dangerfield, Ziebell and Cotchin are really promising players I think will make names for themselves. Others named are standouts in their respective sides: - Adelaide - Dangerfield - still green, but is coming along and will be one of Adelaides keys to success Brisbane - Sherman* - relishing under Voss Carlton - Judd - hitting his straps again, can he possibly get any better? Collingwood - Pendlebury - pure class Essendon - Watson# - keeps improving each outing Fremantle - Tarrant* - re-discovered his footy down back, motivated Geelong - Ablett/Selwood# - love these two, ablett for class, selwood for hardness Hawthorn - Rioli# - Wow. He is a magician. Melbourne - Davey* - What a start to the season for him, red hot form Nth Melb - Zeibell - the standout at the kangaroos this season, great pick up. Port Adelaide - Tredrea* - he's back, had written him off. Richmond - Cotchin - whilst he hasn't played much, he's pure class St Kilda - Dal Santo* - Could have put Hayes here for his attack on the ball alone, Dal Santo 200% improvement on last season. Sydney - Jolly - One of the AFL's top ruckman, in AA form with Cox West Coast - Big Q - been playing on the ball in ruck, up forward, down back, big uitility or in this case big unit the Big Q. W Bulldogs - Akermanis* - Was ready to write him off, was the difference against the Dees, very much still a match winner. Name one player from each team that has impressed you to date....

My thoughts precisely. Considering we're at what, 92.5% TPP? (Someone may correct me on this, it could be 95%) Will be interesting which way they go with Fev, he's worth a bit... I think that's why they drafted Chris Yarran. re: your post. ie. key forward.
-
I've noticed that particularly on the last two shows. I suppose I am very surprised considering the last two games were so close. However, I like the show and it's format, I wouldn't label it pathetic.
-
I think what has happened is what's best for the club too. It's a good way of looking at it Calabreseboy. I don't think Carlton will dominate as they might lead everyone to believe, ie "They know we're coming"
-
Whilst the last two games have been really competitive and winnable games thanks to some much improved output and fine tuning of the game plan, given the position (1-7) at present with approx. 75%, I would be most disappointed if we ended up on 5-6 wins. I agree with your view, I am no longer that confident either re: double pick. I can see the improvement, the cohesion starting to come together, the synergy...slowly but surely. However, do we want to reach finals action asap with an ok list, or do we want to top up with 'quality' at years end, and I mean quality, to achieve higher. Ie. Greater Premiership chance. I recall last season before the trade period, posters quoting, enough is enough, "I want a premiership" , "I want sustained success for a longer period for our club." Well, how do we do that? By giving ourselves the best chance. Now, I will still back the people in the positions to do their job at the fc that is in the best interests of the club under the rules that govern the game. To achieve the best possible outcome. Hawthorn, StKilda, Collingwood and Essendon are on the horizon. Perhaps they could look at the likes of Newton in the seniors again after the Gabba game. IMO he needs another go.

Interesting first post Bruno, welcome.......long time reader, first time poster.

I'm boycotting reading next months lodgement of the newly amended addition on the interpretation of the rules by the rules committee ........ I can't keep up, they have more amendments than the Australian/New Zealand Food Standards Code.
-
Cheers. Think I left out "your" in the last sentence of your post, when reading it first time around. Ie. ...'settling in your court'...'instead of settling in court.' Exactly what motives are they? Isn't it encouraging the players to be responsible and show respect towards women? edit: re-worded question.

Clear thinkers? Court action, what for? On what grounds? Misinterpretation?

Just great...

There are no winners in this. It reflects badly on the club which ever way you look at it. The club does not need this continual in-fighting. I've had it up to here^.
