  1. clarrie needs 35 disposals this week to end the home and away season on an average of 30 disposals per game last year he missed the 30 mark by one disposal in his last game
  2. good, so we don't need an afl rule at the whim of the umpires who have enough to handle without playing doctors let the club trainers/doctors handle it (as they used to) either on field or where deemed necessary off the field we don't want key players forced off at critical times during a game (e.g. big max) when not necessary
  3. sheesh, bob, no need to be such a pedant

  7. Are we the only sport in oz that (still) has a blood rule? The NRL and ARU has far more claret than us but no blood rule Why does someone have to go off the ground for just a minor trickle of blood that could be rubbed off with a towel on the ground

if eagles now miss top four and/or have a poor finals series there might be a bit of animosity towards him as he would have been a big part of any finals success. maybe another reason to leave?

in the gaff case i don't think the umps saw it. did they give a free or report him? if not then a red card would be hard to give. maybe i'm wrong and an ump did see it. anyone know?

i'm not suggesting new rule changes as such. more to remove(change) recent rule changes that are dysfunctional, too technical, difficult to interpret and with penalties that are too harsh. the big one for congestion (imo) is the rotations. This is a (relatively) new rule and i would be happy to just reverse the clock. maybe not as far as 19th/20th man but certainly a big wind back

agree about the dysfunctional i don't understand why you think the dysfunctionals don't affect the look of the game.....they do i would add to your list the reduction of rotations to reduce congestion and rugby style mauls. and the deliberate point and deliberate oob rules anyway, my main point was to refute the populist media reaction that just because we had a round of very close results that this somehow proves the game is in a good condition. just a knee-jerk reaction without any serious analysis p.s. i'm not necessarily supporting the afl's approach either

whilst close games are good for spectators, it doesn't mean the game is good. still plenty of areas that need fixing or setting the clock back
