an understandable opinion but see post #47 above

it will be months before he is found guilty/cleared long after the finals afl can't act until due process is completed

od, i think the too-hard-basket got replaced by a 40m3 skip years ago

my view is simply that the standard of umpiring is below what i expect of such a professional sport and needs improvements it's not all the umpires fault per se, but the whole system from the afl's rules administration, the afl's week to week interference with umpiring, the umpiring dept administration and the fact we have part time umpires in a full-time professional multi billion dollar industry we can do better and we should always strive to do better, it's not that hard to understand
-
???? boy, you sure know how to shift the goalposts
-
you're too defeatist for me, macca reminds me of all the naysayers who said we could never convince the afl to change their stance on the white away strips. well we did and believe me there will be big changes in the umpiring department too. there has to be. it may take years but it will improve.

no to trading hogan but play him at chf....please one thing we are short on is kp players. one goes down we are in trouble, two we are in deep sh.. (p.s. i don't consider lever a genuine kpp) whilst i think his best position is chf i wouldn't be averse to him being tried at chb (or a swing-man kp player)

all you have said is that you think it is un-umpirable (repeatedly). No-one is arguing it is easy (it's not easy in many other sports either) the rest is just verbiage you are implying that nothing can be done and to just accept it where are your suggestions to improve the state of umpiring, you seem to just say it is as good as it can be because it is un-umpirable
-
i'd say you are showing plenty of disrespect there, macca you base your whole rigid argument on your belief that the game is un-umpirable this is patent rubbish and even if it was true what is wrong with saying that the umpiring (along with poorly written rules and afl interference changing the interpretation of rules etc) is sub-standard and demanding better outcomes. the rules can be tightened up/improved, the interpretations can be stopped from constant in-season changes and the whole umpiring department can be overhauled and made more independent and above all more professional including a move to full time professional umpires (over time). and just because you wouldn't be an umpire "for quids" is really quite irrelevant. I can think of thousands of jobs i wouldn't do " for quids" but plenty of others would and is not an excuse to accept mediocrity or demand something better

it all really depends if gaff wants to come to the dees nothing happens until gaff nominates his club of choice, it's not an auction as such of course the $$$s will form part of his decision making but there are other considerations. wherever he goes (or stays) he will be getting big money if he nominates us then the best deal wc can get is the afl compo and as others have pointed out that may be good enough for them to get kelly from the cattery

regardless of what the rule actually says, i still don't see any valid reason for the rule, these days it's a contact sport and blood will be spilt. The crowd already see it, the tv audience already see it and the media highlight it we just don't need the rule and it could cost a team a game the rule was brought in as a knee jerk reaction and doctors are telling us we don't need it, so why not just drop it

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CLAYTON OLIVER
daisycutter replied to Freddy Fuschia's topic in Melbourne Demons
clarrie needs 35 disposals this week to end the home and away season on an average of 30 disposals per game last year he missed the 30 mark by one disposal in his last game -
good, so we don't need an afl rule at the whim of the umpires who have enough to handle without playing doctors let the club trainers/doctors handle it (as they used to) either on field or where deemed necessary off the field we don't want key players forced off at critical times during a game (e.g. big max) when not necessary

sheesh, bob, no need to be such a pedant

Are we the only sport in oz that (still) has a blood rule? The NRL and ARU has far more claret than us but no blood rule Why does someone have to go off the ground for just a minor trickle of blood that could be rubbed off with a towel on the ground
