Casey Demons v Northern Blues - Round 18
daisycutter replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
fyi (from 2017) - "Defender Jay Lockhart, 21-year-old, 183cm, 69kg" -
i'm not suggesting new rule changes as such. more to remove(change) recent rule changes that are dysfunctional, too technical, difficult to interpret and with penalties that are too harsh. the big one for congestion (imo) is the rotations. This is a (relatively) new rule and i would be happy to just reverse the clock. maybe not as far as 19th/20th man but certainly a big wind back
-
agree about the dysfunctional i don't understand why you think the dysfunctionals don't affect the look of the game.....they do i would add to your list the reduction of rotations to reduce congestion and rugby style mauls. and the deliberate point and deliberate oob rules anyway, my main point was to refute the populist media reaction that just because we had a round of very close results that this somehow proves the game is in a good condition. just a knee-jerk reaction without any serious analysis p.s. i'm not necessarily supporting the afl's approach either

whilst close games are good for spectators, it doesn't mean the game is good. still plenty of areas that need fixing or setting the clock back

fmd. all 4 games this week decided by < a goal

pickled in a jar? that can be organised but it would be his preference not yours ? -
i'll go 28k. can't see 30+k
-
at least it's not the 4:35 start time
-
if hogan is not 100% i'd rest him. we need him firing on all cylinders for the last 3 games and (hopefully) finals no need to risk him on an easy game if he has any niggles if so, replacement out of pedo, weids or bull smith

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
daisycutter replied to DemonLad5's topic in Melbourne Demons
no. just tackled after ball is kicked is just fine for the rule agreed may is different because this was a handball situation and wasn't a tackle. it was a bump and it was high you also can't tackle a player after a handball, but you can block or bump within 5m any player whether he has just disposed of it or not. the exception being if the player is attempting to mark the ball -
we picked up (somehow) another 131 after the supposed close of memberships last year, so with today (and there being 3 home games to go) and the after-flow we might scrape to 44,400. my 44,444 prediction might still have a chance - lol

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY

i don't think you can determine it by metres or milliseconds, that is just too crazy how is the tackler able to judge whether the ball being kicked has travelled 5m in a few milliseconds so it is ok to tackle. plainly he can't, nor can an umpire it needs to be kept simple. late is late, and i think this is what umpires judge it on. there is then (sometimes) a little bit of common sense, if the tackle is a split second late and the impact is inconsequential the umpire could ignore it like they can with many other marginal free kick situations the overriding rule though is you can't tackle a player after he has kicked the ball
