  5. tis hard to see all 18 clubs surviving, luci. 2 in vic and the 2 expansion clubs seem obvious unless they can find some white knights
  6. quite agree ernie. i've thought for a long time that the afl and clubs have got way too bloated and somehow the footy basics have been sacrificed so a good overhaul and rethink of the basics is probably a good idea if not painful
  7. luci, from a financial point of view i can't see any gain from sending a vic club up north to merge with either gws or gcs. these locations just don't generate their own funds and rely on massive afl handouts. I can't see that getting any better post c19, in fact it would probably get worse, so where would be the gain. I vic clubs merge it would be with other vic clubs to retain supporters and build income. gws and gcs could merge with sydney and brisbane. of course afl will try to avoid mergers as this dilutes games played hence media rights $s, but it just might be too hard whatever, salary caps and soft caps will be slashed as will wages across the board, staff numbers etc etc in the big footy rebuild
  8. yeah, interesting but.....confirmed cases is so misleading as most people who contract the virus are not tested. and china's reported numbers lately just look too low too quickly only reliable figure is possibly number of deaths, certainly the mortality figures are useless (deaths/confirmed cases)
  9. hardly a curse - 5 on odd numbers, 7 on even numbers with 5 runners-up all on even numbers
  10. lol. as if the players don't already have multiple footballs at home (and other gear)
  11. there's a silver lining in every dark cloud.........eurovision has been cancelled ?

  13. had to have been max's worst game i can remember. he was thrashed by both ruckmen. never seemed to get involved and lacked any leadership..........so disappointing.........lucky it was just a clayton's game
  14. un[censored]precedented

  17. yeah "professional" not the best word, something like incorporated or registered or something like that
  18. yes, it's a non issue now
  19. maybe it's a loose term to distinguish it from sporting clubs as part of a school or college (like where rugby originated)
  20. oldest professional football club ......playing at the top level.......otherwise sheffield is the oldest
  21. i always thought it was oldest, continuous, professional, football club
  22. there is a commitment in both directions. if it happened it would be the afl contractually breaking their commitment first. It's not a question of a state honouring a commitment but one of whether a contract has been breached. major effected place is obviously tasmania and their new confinement rules means it won't get to that stage. this leaves darwin, alice springs and i think bendigo.
  23. are state sponsored games in tassie, alice springs, darwin etc at risk. the states (sponsors) involved only pay on the understanding of increased visitors and tourism dollars. Without those benefits they may not cough up and those games would revert to traditional home games,
  24. anyone know if all games on fta
