  1. The irony ...
  2. Anyone know what Scott Thompson's contract status is?
  3. I just watched the presser. I'm more pumped now than following the birth of my one and only son earlier this year. I am in a totally good mood.
  4. This is bigger than the first moon landing. It's now time for me to drain that bottle of scotch. Thank you Peter Jackson.
  5. Probably the same flight he's caught every other week this year.
  6. Ordinary post.
  7. I don't get this need for grown adults to be close to the place where they grew up. I don't reckon proximity to Albury would have any relevance to his decision to relocate to Melbourne. That Melbourne is a much more interesting city to Perth would, however, probably be more of a factor - notwithstanding the career factors which I expect would be tantamount. Just my view obviously.
  8. Yeah - I get that. Relevantly though, in recent times there have been two very active threads on this board, one essentially entitled 'Get Rory Sloan' and another essentially entitled 'Get Luke Shuey', each of whom would now cost at least a first round draft pick, if indeed they were interested at all.
  9. The irony. Like Sloan in that draft (who was apparently a lock at pick 35, which we then used on Bennell), Shuey was apparently pencilled in at pick 17 in the 2008 draft (along with Schoenmakers whom I think was picked up by Hawthorn at pick 16). The club was surprised the Saints didn't pick Blease with pick 13 or 14, and they jumped on him instead at pick 17, thinking he might still be available with pick 19, which we used on Strauss (and which we should've used on Zaharakis IMO at the time). These decisions would have been game changers for our midfield - in one draft. On a more positive note, the fact that we've been so hopeless for so long - at pretty well everything - has perhaps resulted in the phenomenal changes that are now taking place at the club.
  10. I reckon Matt Jones will seriously benefit from the tutelage of the new coaching team next year. I expect he's the type that the Swans would like - no frills, yet hard at it, skilled and quite quick. Respectful attitude and team focussed. All attributes that the Swans onballers seem to have. That Nate Jones will flourish under Roos is a no brainer. But Matt Jones is someone else whom I expect will benefit immensely.
  11. 'Look, I definitely want the job, but ... ' Roos is not going to ping his family for not taking the gig. IMO it's a done deal. And, given that it means so much to me, I'm totally paranoid and pre-disposed to negativity about this call. That said, it's just gotta to be the case that Roos will coach us next year. He will also lead us to our first premiership since 1964 in the relatively near future. I absolutely love the guy. But that will quickly turn to pure hate if he rejects us now. In simple terms, I don't know if I could handle the disappointment.
  12. This is a joke, right?!
  13. I do too. More than a sniff as well.
  14. I'd be happy for Ling and Black to coach the mids whilst running around on the field along side them on game day.
  15. Surely, there's absolutely no chance we would even entertain tanking this game. I reckon we're a sneaky chance too WJ.
  16. If we land Roos, and Watts still wants to go (unlikely, I think), at least we will now be in a better position to secure a good trade for Watts - the other player will presumably be happy to join the Dees, rather than threatening to retire from the game altogether if traded to the MFC. Surely the chances of landing Adams have now increased dramatically.
  17. Great post SO39 - thanks. Sorry to dig into the highlighted statement, but because Chip is one of the players we can't afford to lose, I get very paranoid about any comments that suggest he may leave. I take it from your comment that he has turned around ie, he pretty well wants to stay a Demon now.
  18. Hey Adam - I can't agree with this. It wasn't manipulative journalism - many of us observed Roos making the comments on air - prior to games and on On The Couch (including the journalists). I think everyone appreciated that the club, indeed the AFL, were right into landing Roos - but I don't think anyone really knew what he was ultimately going to do, even the journos. There seemed to be an underlying logic here that because Hird stated that he had no interest in landing the Dons gig, and then took it Judas style, that Roos would/could do the same thing. That 'logic' didn't make sense to me at the time, and, to be honest, it still doesn't. It seemed to be based on pure 'wish thinking' to me. Simply because one person does one thing, doesn't mean that someone else (with an entirely different character) would do exactly the same thing. On face value, the publicly known evidence until very recently quite clearly pointed to the viewpoint that Roos coaching the MFC next year would be highly unlikely. It seems to me that that has now changed - thankfully! - but I hardly think there was an absence of 'logic' to the thinking over recent months that he would not be coaching us in 2014.
  19. Will be interesting to see if Roos is sitting in the stands at the game tomorrow. With a notepad.
  20. As I read this thread, I literally have a tear in my eye. It feels like my soul is finally returning to my body, which has been ripped apart by this bloody club for too long. Where there was darkness, there is now light - so much light, I feel like we're 10 metres away from the bloody sun. I can't believe this is happening. I am just so bloody pumped. Thank you PJ. The first pint of scotch will be in your honour!
  21. Just watched his press conference. I absolutely love this bloke. A real shame he did his knee. Again. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/2013-08-30/media-conference-david-rodan
  22. If we land Roos, I hereby undertake to drain an entire bottle of Scotch in three minutes. Right down to my belly. I will then probably die, which would be a bit disappointing (for me at least), because I've been waiting for a very long time for the MFC dynasty to commence. But I think, on balance, it,ll be worth it.
  23. I don't really know what world I've been inhabiting since about 2007. It's been surreal. And tres ordinaire.
  24. Thanks for the update GNF. Any news on Geoff Walsh?
  25. Consistent with GNF's comments above, a few weeks ago I was speaking to a Dees fans who has the inside scoop and a North fan who knows Demitriou (and who had lunch with him one week prior to our chat). They said to me that Roos is almost a certainty to coach us next year. They said the AFL is going to make it happen, and when they set their sights on something, they make it happen. I didn't believe them at the time. In some respects, I still don't. But his 50/50 comments last night are starting to change my view. It's a game changer if we land Roos. If we do, I'll go back to hating GWS.
