Good post.

I thought trolls ate mushrooms not bananas.

It was that big petrol station/food outlet on the way to Avalon.

Hangon might like this considering his avatar. I heard today that a business run by some black African men had been rung by someone from another business, who was upset with them. Without thinking he said to them "what kind of monkey business are you guys running"? It was only when the African man started threatening Racial Vilification did he realize what he had said and he then apologized and it was accepted. This is not a joke, it happened, just shows how careful you have to be. On another vein I saw bananas at $3.00 a kilo on the roadside on the way to the slaughter last week. Should have loaded up.

Roos has kids finishing school in Sydney and is still on Swans payroll and may simply be unavailable. Lyon R will be with Saints. First option is interesting as Choco Williams has apparently ruled himself out along with Roos , Malthouse and Clarkson. That only leaves Eade and Laidley unless I have forgotten someone as experienced Coaches and Eade may be at Dogs next year. Pagan was desribed recently as a great Coach by former players who not everyone loved but played for him and his way. I don't know if he would have the necessary skills to be Footy Manager but working with Laidley could be a good blend, who knows. The other whisper is that Balme might be approached to be Footy Manager and he has a great deal of respect in the game from those that know. He also lives in Melbourne and is mates with Lyon G. We will see.

Sorry but I had to Bump this thread as another insidious thread has surfaced about you know who. Will it never end? Well the sharemarket has bombed much like our team, but the sun is now shining and last news item said sharemarket starting to rebound. The price of bananas has dropped so my banana smoothie should be back in town. Jaded who nearly had a meltdown is back posting with passion. We have a new temporary Coach and temporary Football Celebrity, I mean Director and our effort against Carltank I mean Carlscum was improved. We have learned that we can't kick for goal and our disposal is less than VFL standard, but as required by the temporary Coach the boys had a red hot go. The same level of effort in the remaining games could see a few wins end off the season, putting us where most would have expected at the start of the season. We will have got some more games into a lot of players and we can then look at addressing why so many of our players have not improved like Morton, Blease and all of the indigenous boys for example.

He was traded not stolen, and at the end of his career not the beginning.
-
You have missed the point. The argument is not about expansion but rather the type of player that could be stolen and club from which the theft is enacted.
-
That was more responsible IMO. Brennan was traded, Bock at end of career, Krakouer no star, no one under 22 and no number 1 pick.

Got the passion back Jaded?

Thrashings. Read in conjunction with my earlier Post 2.

Wish him all the best and hope he makes a full recovery.

That is an interesting point you raise. If you firstly look at the mentioned targets of GWS being Davis - Crows, Scully - Dees, Clark - Lions, Palmer - Dockers and Ward - Dogs, by season's end all of these clubs will be in the bottom half of the ladder. Result, the gap between top and bottom grows. Second, by giving masses of draft picks and Under 17 year olds to GC and GWS you stifle the recovery of the bottom clubs for years, result many more blowout games to come and a boring competition. Third by not protecting clubs young players especially developing clubs like Dees and Crows with Scully and Davis you rob these clubs of hope, membership, maybe sponsorship, on field ability and again cause blowouts. Picks will not solve the loss of star players with 2 years under their belts. This has been a poorly thought strategy by the AFL and in my eyes they stand condemned for a failure to protect the AFL brand.

Hope you are right, but the trouble is that I can't see the boys I mentioned being big power forwards next season and then we will be saying the same thing this time next year.
-
You are joking. We need straightening up and we need a contest up forward. We don't need a continuation of the ball being swept away from our forward line and then coast to coast. I agree with you that we also need mid fielders but what we miss really is the quality of disposal, we are nothing short of pathetic in that area. Yetserday we hit our 50 as much as Carlton yet we lost by over 12 goals. Why? No one can kick a goal or pass the ball to someone properly. Every handball turns over the ball to the opposition. If we had kicked straight yesterday we probably still would have lost but it might have been a few goals. We did have a go. The perfect example of poor disposal is Jones. I would credit him with a dozen turnovers. We have been poorly coached for years without an effective gameplan and we need a power forward. Oh and by the way Brown, Cloke, Dawes, Podsiadly, Mooney, Hawkins, Franklin, Roughhead, Hale, Lynch, Darling and Kennedy say Hi. The bets teams all have several power forwards. We have young under developed Jack Watts, who may in time become one, I pray for Cook, McDonald, Fitzpatrick to develop or hope we trade for a mature one. At the next draft despite what we have been told I hope we draft some skilful mids as well.

Schwab and Connolly - Paul Roos is correct!

Good post. -
Lets have a 3 tiered competition. 3 teams in one, 11 teams in the next and 4 in the last.
-
I will be as positive and constructive as I can, Davey was pathetic today and as a leader, he was a total waste of space. Today was the perfect example of why I laughed at suggestions by many on here he should be Captain. He is scared.
-
They are the ones I always get. The one club in the AFL I really hate.
-
That is the same kid who had 18 possessions against the Dogs in the final quarter. Are you available to be our recruiter because you are obviously an absolute genius at recruiting. That said I don't disagree about the 2 picks as long as we had a deal in place to trade one of them for a great 17 year old.
-
He has had some good patches but is not ready for the big time. That doesn't mean he won't turn out to be a good player. I hate to say this with the amount of youngsters we have at the moment but he needs time and development and we need patience. He will end up a big lump of a lad.

Some grounds are very restricted and that will affect numbers as well. Darwin will only hold about 12000 and skilled is about 28000 so that has to drop averages. We have had some unlucky weather for our games as well as inconsistent form. Look at Saints though with a bigger membership they are only 400 ahead. If we played Port game at G we would be ahead of them.

Let the hair stand up on the back of their necks.

Not a bad idea, but far simpler if you want to do something is to stand and sing the club song when they play the music as the players come onto the ground. I am sure if every Dee fan stood and sung the players would see and hear it. Would that make a difference, who knows? -
He pulled out of a couple of contests last week and this could be his punishment. He will return and I look forward to seeing him next year after another pre season when he should have filled out some more.
-
That is an interesting one. He could have said much more but didn't. He may not have said anything if not asked the question. He did try and be honest while at the same time using the accepted argument of player development at the end. When quizzed by Anderson he put an end to it when he could have completely put us in. He said no more than the whole footy world knew and in fact said less. If we hadn't sacked him and instead given him the chance to stand down or see out his last 5 games, he may not have said anything and we could have ensured that by a termination arrangement. It could have been far worse and it could have been much better.
