POSTGAME: Rd 04 vs Adelaide
Earlier this year many mentions occured about how good our midfield were, but it seemed we often lost the clearance. I LOVE seeing Max belt the suitcase out of the ball forward. He is doing it pretty often lately. I love seeing Jake and Big Stevie punching high balls when they cant mark and ANB, Sparrow tapping outside the congestion when possesion equals a ballup. We generally do it to advantage. It seems to me a new tactic.

Rising Star Nomination for The Duke?
More like Alan Johnson IMO but I saw much more of Johnno. And he was a warm favourite behind Robbie.

Windsor like Kozzie and Rivers can kick accurately at top speed.

PODCAST: Rd 01 vs Western Bulldogs
I have 2 comments/questions that are unfortunately a little negative and too wordy. 1) Im very impressed with some Sydney tactics; especially one where rather than take posession of a loose ball at head height in congestion, they tap it on/over towards a player. Our players, ANB in particular, prefers to take posession and attempt to either dispose or more likely accept the tackle and hope for a ball up. At best a stalemate, at worst a holding the ball. With the versatile Tracc and Clarry especially probably in the vacinity, could this be a tactic? 2) Lever cant dispose successfully almost at all, forward of the play when awarded a free or a mark. Most of his possesions are now sent backwards to a spare. Other teams are aware. When he does go forward it very much looks like he doesnt have a player as a target. His kicks are long and invariably high to a pack, if lucky. Most other quality teams are pulling back on this high kick to a pack. Even if he kicked it lower, which was something I understood we were trying to do, it would be better odds. Can anything be done? I like Jake but he is active with his feedback to players with it seems little self examination.

Power Forwards
Anyone who is a decent kick and has a second to sum up options would kick to a player either on a lead or who has space n front. At Melbourne it looks like they kick to a pack and that makes it extremely difficult for forwards. If you are a decent enough kick it is natural to look for a target. As an example, one thing I like about Laurie (admittedly there are other issues) is that he finds time to look up in front of him before disposal. Jack Viney looks. Clarrie who has more time than any, doesnt look. Tracc occasionally. K9 Brown looks and thats why I think he will make it. Kicking to a position is only occasionally a good bet.

I actually thought Schache showed more last night than Id seen before. His disposal is normally quite good and he buttered up for a few marks and ground balls. Tommo I also saw encouraging marks and disposals from. Not saying they would be 1st 22 every week but I was quite relieved they held their ends up, in consideration of my expectations.
