  1. What Cotchin did is neither here nor there. The issue that Sydney is disputing is whether Franklin's action was deliberate. I can't see how you could possibly argue that it was anything but deliberate. To me, there are no grounds to uphold the appeal.
  2. Wouldn't every other club be aware of this inconsistency? If he's no good, no club will trade for him.
  3. Why would you get rid of him if he put some decent games together? Surely that would indicate that he has turned the corner and has a future with Melbourne. The other thing I don't understand is why people automatically think that Collingwood would be interested.
  4. Just did a quick search radar and your memory is spot on. Miller joined VFA club Dandenong in 1967 and soon became a valuable member of the team playing at full forward. He kicked 106 goals in 1969. He was a member of Dandenong's 1971 premiership team, remembered for a controversial free kick that he received before the opening siren of the Grand Final. The umpire, believing that Preston full-back Barrie Leslie had pushed Miller in the back, awarded a free kick despite the start of play not having been signalled. Miller kicked the goal and four quarters later Dandenong won by six points. Preston lodged a protest after the game and it went to a VFA hearing, with the final decision from the committee going in Dandenong's favour 39 votes to five.
  5. To be fair, I think he may have been the Injury Sub in a couple of those games. Having said that, I agree with other posters that, alas, Baker is probably not quite AFL standard.
  6. Demonland if Jackson hasn't re-signed by the time our bye comes along ...
  7. Hibberd and Melksham would be obvious candidates to retire at season's end but I can't see that there's much possibility of that happening at this stage of the year. You mentioned four players. Who else do you reckon might be enticed to hang up the boots?
  8. Mad Max was only 175cm.
  9. That won't open up a spot for the Midseason Draft though.
  10. To create the vacancy necessary to have a selection in the mid-season draft, we would have to transfer one of our players onto the Long Term Injured List. Who else apart from Howes would qualify?
  11. Two of my brothers are lifelong North supporters. They have basically given up, find it difficult to care any more and see no future for their club in its current form. I can't help but feel for them.
  12. "Getting it out of the way" is a strong indication that he intends to re-sign with us.
  13. gaff1 /ɡaf/ Learn to pronounce noun 1. a stick with a hook or barbed spear, for landing large fish.
  14. I see that a couple of posters have responded to my "Blood Stained Angels" post with a laugh. Let me assure everybody that the post was not intended to be funny in any way and there is nothing humorous about the offensive nickname that Essendon adopted for a time.
  15. Gaff might still be worth chasing. He could be very useful in helping us land a big fish in trade week.
  16. South Melbourne were once known as "The Blood Stained Angels" in a reference to the splash of red on their predominantly white jumper. Essendon had a related nickname that I won't repeat.
  17. On that basis, Hibberd should be available this week shouldn't he?
  18. Sounds like a grave situation.
  19. I get the Weed/Choof association but I had no idea that was his nickname. Never heard it used before today.
  20. His nickname is "Choofa"?
  21. Jake Lever was quoted in this morning's press assessing Jack Viney as "hopefully touch and go". That doesn't inspire a lot of confidence that Viney will play this week.
  22. That's the same bloke in both photos, isn't it?
  23. It's more palatable to describe it as Freo and Brisbane losing.
  24. I am neither concerned nor do I smoke, sue. Don't worry, be happy.
  25. We have a poster called Steamin Demon!
