  1. If you're looking for a way to get hammered tonight, have a drink every time a Channel 7 camera cuts to a shot of Ben Rutten in the coaches box.
  2. Ah, I see your point now. Fair enough, too.
  3. They all get a week off with the pre-finals bye. The extra day won't make any difference.
  4. Why do you assume that Collingwood were interested in him?
  5. It's called sportsmanship. I'd be disappointed if we didn't do the same under those circumstances.
  6. I'm sure I read somewhere that there will be no finals played at Kardinia Park this year due to the redevelopment of a large section of the stands and the subsequent limit on attendance.
  7. I think you'll find them licking their wounds in the same room as the "Melksham only gets a game because he's Goody's best mate" crowd.
  8. It's one of life's paradoxes that men get criticised for bottling up their emotions but also get criticised if they show them.

I did a stint as a barman in the St Kilda Social Club in 1979. If they can play football today as well as they could party in those days, they'll romp it in.
  10. They'd have to be a combination of fuchsias and Robbie flowers.
  11. I feel more confident and relaxed when Spargo has the footy than any other Melbourne player as his disposal and decision making is first rate. Having said that, it would be nice if he got more of it.
  12. I see that Dean Kent is an inclusion for St Kilda in what will be his 100th game. Genuinely forgot that he was still on a senior list. I wonder if the 100th is a farewell gesture.
  13. Slightly? It's up there with the Harold Holt Swim Centre in Glen Iris for mine!
  14. It's a moot point, WJ. Although they got together in 1978, their first album didn't appear until 1980 and it was in this decade that they were best known. I'll give it you on a technicality! Demonland Uber Alles!!!

No sarcasm intended. I meant every word.

Those were the days. You could be assured of hearing intelligent, well-informed footy talk from a panel who had a natural rapport and who produced moments of genuine good-natured humour. Contrast that to today's unwatchable Channel 9 Sunday Footy Show numpties with their forced bonhomie, incessant sniggering, smug attitude and obsession with making it all about themselves rather than the actual game itself.
  17. All positions in the Village People have been filled.

Technically, you are correct (and we all know that's the best type of correct) as they haven't done anything for the past 20 years. However, in the 20 years prior to that, they won four flags. No club has won more premierships than they have. I dislike Essendon immensely, but they are wealthy with widespread support and a huge membership base and have every right to be considered a massive club. Collingwood, despite only winning two flags since 1958, is also a part of that elite group as is Carlton who haven't raised the cup since 1995. Richmond have cemented their place in the upper echelon with its recent success.
  19. And if your Aunty had wheels, she'd be a bicycle. It is what it is. Let's just beat Brisbane and go from there.
  20. My ex told me we'd have less arguments if I wasn't so pedantic. I told her "I think you mean fewer arguments".
  21. It's pretty obvious that Sam Weideman is the whipping boy du jour, IRW.
  22. Back on topic (Dire Straits) - this was posted here in December 2020 after it was announced that Josh Mahoney was going to Essendon and that Mark Williams had been hired as an assistant at Melbourne. "I know we've been in dire straits, but I didn't expect to lose Mahoney for nothing and get Chocs for free."
  23. "Brown Sugar" was definitely NOT about coffee! It's also not the original working title of the song which I wouldn't dare post on a family forum like Demonland. They no longer play the song in concerts given the belated backlash to the lyrical content. Ripping tune all the same and one of their all time best tracks.
  24. Fair point you make there. I've taken the two terms to mean much the same thing. Unless every team plays the other twice (not feasible) or just the once (more likely if the number of teams expand to 19 or 20) or unless the AFL have a crystal ball, the fixture will continue to be both unfair and unbalanced.
