Those were the days. You could be assured of hearing intelligent, well-informed footy talk from a panel who had a natural rapport and who produced moments of genuine good-natured humour. Contrast that to today's unwatchable Channel 9 Sunday Footy Show numpties with their forced bonhomie, incessant sniggering, smug attitude and obsession with making it all about themselves rather than the actual game itself.

Technically, you are correct (and we all know that's the best type of correct) as they haven't done anything for the past 20 years. However, in the 20 years prior to that, they won four flags. No club has won more premierships than they have. I dislike Essendon immensely, but they are wealthy with widespread support and a huge membership base and have every right to be considered a massive club. Collingwood, despite only winning two flags since 1958, is also a part of that elite group as is Carlton who haven't raised the cup since 1995. Richmond have cemented their place in the upper echelon with its recent success.

Fair point you make there. I've taken the two terms to mean much the same thing. Unless every team plays the other twice (not feasible) or just the once (more likely if the number of teams expand to 19 or 20) or unless the AFL have a crystal ball, the fixture will continue to be both unfair and unbalanced.
