  1. The word is we are interested in him, but with three other clubs circling would we use our rookie #2 pick on him? Seems a tad high....would have thought a good prospect left over from the draft would be in line for our first pick.

  3. nicknamed "Dasher" .....there's the bloodlines
  4. Voicing disapproval to those that knock his selection.
  5. Yeah we'll never know about the gout, because he doesn't have it. As for Derek, everytime I see Salem hitting up Hogan on the lead I will forever remember the day that we got one up on Collingwood at the draft table.....Trust me, we did.
  6. Which would have been triggered by his disappointment....emotions have a way of doing that. Being trumped by your protege would too.
  7. Let me rephrase it a little so as to avoid confusion - Hine had a hint of defeat written on his face, the expression that you see on supporters faces when they leave the ground in disgust 10 mins before the final siren sounds, all the while trying to hide it by making it look like they are just going to buy a pie & chips.
  8. Music to my ears....I didn't have any inside info, but I could tell from Derek Hine's expression after calling out Freeman's name that he was not an overly happy pappy. What I love the most about that, is that the Pies must have been holding out hope for Salem right to the last moment - and that make's us getting Salem all the more sweeter.
  9. Super excited the Dees drafted Salem - absolute standout for me in the AIS Vs. Collingwood Reserves this year, playing against mature bodies (where has that thread with the video gone?) Easily the equal of Kelly or Aish as pure midfielders - Excellent decision to trade down, get Tyson & draft this guy 10/10 Can easily see us winning 5 games the first 10 this year. I reckon Collingwood wanted him ahead of Freeman at 10 too..... Anyone think otherwise?
  10. Hunt reminds me of a right footed Stephen Hill the way he moves. Wonder if he has the endurance to go with the speed like Hill does? Should know soon enough. The recruiters must be confident with getting some meat on him over time, which shouldn't be hard if what Robert Shaw says is correct and he has never lifted a weight in his life. Look forward to seeing him develop.
  11. Entirely possible - I heard a whisper about a month ago that he was who we wanted. If so, they've kept him under wraps well and done well in the old subterfuge department.
  12. Anyone know where to find the thread that had video of the AIS V's Collingwood Reserves highlights from the game in the middle of the year? Or has it been deleted? For anybody interested, that vision best demonstrates why we would go with Salem if we do - he was exceptional against AFL quality players, and a clear standout.
  13. There was a thread where we talked about Salem. Can't seem to find it, but a lot people including myself commented that he caught the eye from the AIS Vs Collingwood Reserves game video highlights.
  14. I've heard that Sheed ran a 3.00 sec flat at the combine (unconfirmed), which isn't sluggish. Would like to know how quick Wines was at the combine? I can't see Sheed being any slower than him. From memory Trengove ran a 3.00 sec 20m in his year, which didn't put the recruiters off taking him at pick 2 at the time. FWIW, I think Trenners will get a bit of pace back this year with a full preseason.
  15. Once Cross gets added, it only leaves 3 senior list spots doesn't it?.....so they might need to delist one more off the senior list in order to have a pick at 57 & the Preseason draft http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2013-10-29/melbournes-2014-list
  16. Absolutely you're still right - he's a burst player that struggles to keep the motor turning without a rest. The beep test was the better indicator in that respect.
  17. He was exceptional in repeat sprint testing.
  18. Enter Paul Roos. I'd say with Watts his speed gets lost in being too fatigued. Now that they are going to set him for the midfield and stop trying to turn him into a gorilla, you'll see his zip come back. That's also the good thing about Freeman, having ranked high in endurance tests as well as the sprint. It's probably why he always looks so fast in those highlights - he's got a freaky genetic blend of both fast & slow twitch.
  19. The 20m sprint times for a comparison as 17/18 yr olds: Freeman - 2.81 secs Dangerfield - 2.93 secs Watts - 2.82 secs So Freeman has Watts covered by 0.01secs over 20m - Like the sound of these two together in the midfield.
  20. Always possible they're after a SA kid at p.6 - adding to there little SA stash from last year
  21. Hopefully the MFC - I'd take him at #1 If clubs are going to pass on Scharenberg because they see him as a tweener then they are fools - he's the complete package.
  22. Definitely, a meatier & less bouncy version. Salem better in and under & without the aerial prowess of Yze
  23. A question for all you guys... Now that we have recruited Dom Tyson, does that rule out us taking Sheed or Salem with pick 9 given they are similar players to Tyson?
  24. Having watched Freeman's highlights for the 2nd time, his talents are now significantly growing on me. The first time I watched him I wasn't overly impressed with what I saw as him being a tad out of control, but now I just see it that he is just ridiculously quick and that it looks kind of strange because no-one can catch him. I also think it is a lot harder for the quicker guys to control their kicking when going at full tilt, and that he needs to get a little better at composing his kicking a top speed - but that's not a bad problem to have so long a you can kick well and I think he can when composed. I see Freeman as a quicker version of Ollie Wines and a force to be reckoned with as early as next year, and would be very happy to see him land at the Dees at pick 9.
