  1. That would be a great outcome. Having Hogan in the wings and our draft position this year has proved to be great timing with the way the draft talent has panned out - given our need for quality midfielders. Big thumbs up to our Management and recruiters if this eventuates because it does look as though it has all been planned. Dare I say it - worthy replacements for Scully & Trengove
  2. Well the Dees would be fools if they gave up anything close to want they are asking. Collingwood are on the search for a club foolish enough to give up high draft picks to help them build a talented list and have the done the same thing the last few years to improve there draft position. They're giving up players who might be at the top of there game right now and are excellent bait to hang on the line but these players are more than likely going to trend downwards over the next few years in performance and Collingwood can see that coming. I'd be way more interested to go and watch a talented youngster drafted at 23 develop than watch Beams. Doesn't get me excited at all and more than anything I reckon he's the wrong fit for our club.
  3. Doesn't strike me as the type to have 8 years left in him. All of those drug fueled finals campaigns would take it out of you. Collingwood say he wants out for personal reasons but I say there is a reason they don't want him and that is my hesitation - I had the same hesitation with Dawes and my instincts where correct on that one too - way overs and hasn't come close to justifying what we gave up for him. I do like his ability to take out the opposition with brutality which I can't argue with. If there is one club I don't want to pay overs for a player it's Collingwood. Something stinks about there demand for a high pick and a good young player. I can smell the stench from a mile a way - they are kidding themselves and I hope our guys can see through it.
  4. I'd struggle to even give up pick 23 for Beams Use the higher draft picks to get in good young talent that will be at least 6-10 year players for the club. Trade and draft for the older experienced guys on the cheap like we have been doing (Moneyball) Last time we traded with the Pies we gave up way to much to get Dawes - I hope they don't make the same mistake again.
  5. Just don't have the kind of money that doesn't sit within the salary cap That is compared with the AFL backed Giants. The Griffin trade has all the hallmarks of an act of desperation to me, and I certainly wouldn't be that keen on that kind of deal for Griffin to the Dees. I suppose they would get a fair bit of leadership value there also which they need.
  6. Do you think Jason Taylor might have a bit of a soft spot for Nutri-Grain? Perhaps that's the link
  7. Fair points you make there. Love to know how you will cope when we make and win a Grand-final - You might think you're dreaming or something.
  8. Certainly seems to be tracking well for us. Having said that, I still find it hard to believe that we aren't looking to downgrade at least one of our picks.
  9. Agreed, or we have got wind that the GWS & Saints trade won't happen now and we already knew the Saints would take McCartin if the kept the #1 pick
  10. So it doesn't matter to you who is going to be there at pick 2 or 3? - That's what I'm referring to in my post. And I'm sure it matters to the Demon recruiters which club has pick 1 and which player that club will take. So are you sure you don't care about this?
  11. Its looking as though GWS are stockpiling draft picks inside the top 20 picks to pass on to the Saints for pick 1 - which the Saints have said they want to go the the draft with 3/4 picks inside 20 like last year. Doesn't bode well for us getting Petracca and not the best news for Petracca fans on Demonland. I wonder if we can still force the Saints hand on this?
  12. If you knew who the club were targeting in the upcoming draft, would you mention it on here or zip your lip?
  13. I'd have to say they are very consistent..........at stitching us up at Adelaide Oval.
  14. I think you'll find it was the way the rule was set up that forced the Jury's hand - so I wouldn't be blaming them.
  15. He doesn't realise it, but this will be the beginning of the end for him - His AFL media career spirally slowly but surely down the toilet like a turd.
  16. I'd give anything to see a Frawley & Hogan match-up in a couple of years time - Who would have the edge do you think?
  17. Here's some more for you seeing as you liked them so much: - Why doesn't he sign up, show some loyalty, get behind the cause, stop winging & help get the team into the finals? This kind of attitude is the exact reason why teams can't build a "together" like culture that leads to Premierships. - I've got no time for this "putting off contract talk crap" *Sign up or [censored] off* - Sounds like Scully all over again. Doomsday like for everyone at the time.....worked out well for us in the end. - I hope he has a good season to increase his desirability, $ value in order to get better compensation in the event he leaves. - Start canvassing now to shake someone loose during Free agency or trade. - It's a new era, players moving from club to club more freely, which means that if the club is smart it will position itself well to replace likes with likes or better. We basically went and recruited a whole midfield in the last free agency & trade period. I think we can cover Chip. - He is definitely more athlete than footballer. - Often people reject things as rubbish on this website, and they turn out to be the truth, which some people have a hard time dealing with. - Stay open, remain flexible & don't reject things so quickly - because often things that look bad, turn out to be not as bad as you thought.
  18. A few words on this: - He's undoubtedly a beast and an important player to us but is he the amazing talent that makes him irreplaceable? Don't think so. - When it all boils down to it are athlete type footballers like James easier to come by? Probably. - Is this just contract posturing? I still hope so, but the writing has been on the wall for a while now, and I wouldn't be surprised if he has made the decision to vacate a long time ago and would need some serious talking out of it, if that is at all possible. - If he goes, it won't take long for a new star Demon full back to emerge.
  19. LIKE! Jones & Terlich were inspired pick ups given how quickly they transitioned to the AFL.
  20. Being a bit harsh on Nicho, he was actually a lot more effective than people think, just didn't look glamorous. He dropped away in his latter years, which is what people tend to remember. James Frawley's another good example of a full back who's athletic ability outweighs his football ability. Don't know enough about Tippet....is he strong enough? That would be my concern.
  21. Would you take.....a couple of years then?
  22. You're probably right, however if there is one position on the field where you get away with being more athlete than footballer it would have to be full back. Alistair Nicholson was a good example, and he was one of the better full backs during his time, purely because he was strong, quick and could spoil well. Sean Wight another.
  23. I'd second that, if for no other reason he was very highly rated as a 16/17 year old and for some reason fell down the rankings this year - Ripe for a rookie pick. Some people querying his speed lately but he's a hard as nails/ wrecking ball type. Also #1 in the Combine kicking test. The other guy I'd keep an eye for is Nathan Drummond.
  24.
